The Pit is actually a reimagining of the Lazarus Pit, where people who bathe in its regenerative waters regain their strength and youth. Here, Bruce reclaims what made him Batman in the first place and embraces fear. He emerges from the Pit stronger and determined to save his city.

i like your idea but i always viewed it as this: in the first scene of batman begins, bruce falls into the cave (a pit). he’s terrified of the bats and can’t even try to get out, until his father has to come down and help him out. but bruce never actually left that pit, he’s been stuck there surrounded by bats and darkness his entire life, batman is his only identity because bruce wayne is still stuck in that pit of darkness. but finally, in this scene, bruce wayne overcomes his fear, and makes the climb. he emerges not as batman, but as bruce wayne. he doesn’t need to be batman anymore. he faces bane in the middle of the day as bruce wayne in a batman suit. this is what allowed him to finally move on and live the life alfred always wanted him to

Its such a beautiful scene. Bane says the pit teaches despair, people look to the sky and feel hope, a quality we all need in life. But the reality is that sometimes hope is actually not enough. Sometimes we forget that to hold on to true hope, we must face our greatest fear in its most raw form, more raw than we’ve ever known. We have to live whilst accepting the reality that we will likely fail miserably and end up broken. And it is this journey that will bring out our greatest potential.

I think that's what the rope symbolizes. It's a safety blanket so we don't have to feel afraid. But because we don't feel afraid, we won't reach our greatest potential. So when we strip the safety blanket away, in this case the rope since it will save you from death, we are forced to confront our greatest fears and conquer them. That's why for the longest time, Talia was the only one that escaped, because she didn't have the safety blanket to make her feel safe, and had to confront the fear of death head on. I love how Bruce does the same, and has finally conquered his fear of death and failure, and the guilt he had for years over his parents death. That's why it's called "The Dark Knight Rises."

This isn’t just a scene for me.. its basically my life.. it’s always this part I come back to when I need to be picked up again. I’m 26 years old and this scene always brings tears to my eyes. Not only because Christian bale is one of my favourite actors and my favourite Batman and I’m a MASSIVE Batman fan(I have Batman memorabilia & other collectibles in my room) but mainly for his iron will and his dedication and never giving up. Seeing him stand up out of that pit rising like the warrior he is with Mr. Hans Zimmers music and the prisoners cheering is bloody amazing it gives me chills and its exactly how I felt. Being sick & dying in bed everyday first from destroying my body, and then being sick from healing it, as Batmans was until he was finally ready to make the climb and rise. I like to think that I myself conquered what I did and I also did rise again. I’m no warrior but I battled drug addiction in my life and pretty much lost everything. After highschool, I went from an athlete, a competing promising kickboxer, a basketball player, to a junkie loser. No money no future no desire literally nothing. Couldn’t even save a dime. I was a walking corpse. Nobody wanted anything to do with me. I didn’t either. You can imagine I was called every name in the book and suicidal thoughts were nothing new to me anymore. Talking harshly to myself was nothing new to me anymore. I had a privileged life I had everything I ever wanted and I guess somewhere down the line I took advantage of it and I went from a good kid an athlete, to nothing. Just another junkie loser. Here I was hurting my loved ones but mainly myself the worst way possible. After battling pure hell somehow with the Grace of God one day at a time I’m now almost 3 years clean and sober and I have everything back in my life and more. My family. An amazing fiancé who knows everything about me and wants to be there for me through it all. And I can actually save money now which is a blessing to me like no other. I went to acting school for couple years and got an agent and became an actor so we’ll see what happens with that. I’m now also attending school to become an addiction counsellor. Hopefully I can help the ones like me. And I started a small carpentry business at home making tables/desks since covid started which has been very beneficial for me. But mainly I hope acting and my career as a Therapist works out. Even if not, I can atleast do the things that I want to do now in life and try. And not be trapped in my prison of addiction anymore.. Despite all that I still consider myself a junkie loser who hasn’t really done anything in his life. And I don’t feel like I’ll ever make my parents proud. Facing death and fighting for my life and winning it back from addiction I guess isn’t something this older generation of my Indo Canadian ppl think it’s anything to be proud of.. more like something to be ashamed of. I know I have to talk to myself kinder and that’s something I’m working on. But it’s hard when even now sometimes people who I don’t get along with that well try to judge you for your past mistakes. Calling me a junkie every time there’s a heated argument. Using my past as a weapon. So I just stay away now as I can’t handle that kinda toxicity in my life. It hurts more and does more damage than most will know but it is what it is. Most importantly I just hope to make my family proud, mainly my fiancé and my parents who will hopefully be proud to call me her husband and their son one day. Thats all I really want. That’s all I hope for. Thank you for your time to read this. All the real ones struggling and fighting out there please keep going. One day at a time. You are a warrior like Batman! When he finally rises out of that pit it is exactly how I felt when I finally beat my addiction and saw the world with my clear eyes again. I was rising again. To a better, wiser and stronger me. You Will Also Rise! God Bless You🙏🏼💪🏼🖤

You know, I never realized the symbolism of the pit when I saw this the first time. I never realized that this pit was the Lazarus Pit, and when Bruce entered it, he was broken, physically, mentally, and emotionally. He allowed peace to make him weak and that is what allowed Bane to plow him into the ground. He didn’t have the fighting spirit and the will that allowed him to face down criminals with automatic weapons. He allowed the pain that came with the loss of Rachel dying and the humiliation of letting Harvey Dent become a monster turn him into a recluse. By entering the pit, Bruce was able to reclaim the physical strength he once had. He was able to reclaim the mental focus that made it possible to give him purpose in his crusade to save Gotham. And he allowed the fear that once forced him to become Batman in the first place, to enter his heart again, and in that moment, he climbed out of the pit stronger than ever. His vitality returned, his warrior spirit rejuvenated, and his mental focus as sharp as a knife. I never thought that the Lazarus Pit could be used in such a brilliant fashion, but with Nolan, everything is possible.

This is my favorite movie scene of all time. The prison sometimes is our own mind. The fear of not knowing if you're going to make it keeps you locked in that prison until you take a leap of faith. The inmates chanting rise is our self conscious digging deep and getting riled up to make the leap. When we preserver we feel ultimate victory and become stronger then we were before. Sometimes we need to be completely broken in order to be rebuilt even better. This scene is powerful metaphor for life and will stick with me forever.

This entire sequence was so perfectly written that it could be its own short film. I remember crying when I saw this in theaters, because Nolan so perfectly took the audience (me) and put us in Bruces shoes. At a time in my life I had so many fears and doubts and limitations-all self imposed. It perfectly portrayed a conversation that my mind and heart had daily. Bruce/Batman aside, the Pitt to me represented Heaven+Hell, the climb to me represented my physical body going through the journey of breaking the limitations of my mind and the Rope represents Lack of Faith in God and instead living life in comfort failing to have faith in God and forever being bound by putting faith in the wrong things- The bottom of the Pitt represents Hell, eternal darkness bound by the limitation of your own mind, chained and in a jail cell that you have the power to escape as long as you're able and willing to master your mind and break the bounds that are holding you in your own hell. The top of the Pitt represents Heaven/ Freedom on he journey to breaking your own limitations you'll have to put in work, you'll need to climb to heights that make you uncomfortable having faith in your plan, idea, your calling and that everything you believe in is now in Gods hands because you're climbing with out a rope - without a safety net- you either live or you die trying. Once Bruce is at the peak and at his final objection as high as he can get with out his rope, (your own final objection) the enemy ( I call him Satan) will cast his final objection into scaring you and making you doubt everything you've done to get where you are so that you can fall. Once Bruce faces his fears and has faith and is wiling to die- that is when the miracle happens and the realization, that you never needed the rope in the first place- that freedom took a leap of faith into the discomfort and unknown so that you can grow- Once at the top you're free, once you've overcome those limitations the Panning of Bruce walking into the world represents a world that you can't even IMAGINE because you haven't taken the first step into breaking your limits. When Bruce is having that conversation in his it symbolized his Mind and Heart having an exchange, Bruce being the conscious mind had been lying to himself, he had been avoiding his fears, doubts and limitations- never truly facing them, nor feeling working to overcoming them. His heart knew exactly what he needed to do to escape and reminded him on what exactly he needed to do to escape and once he accepted that, his spirit was rejuvenated- The spirit was represented by the men hyping him up to "RISE". As well as those men also represented different past versions of himself that no longer served him which were also caged and trapped but also craved freedom because they were him. You can actually see that of all the men cheering there was one man that didn't- that was the latest version of Bruce- himself, the one full of doubt, the one full of anger, self pity, and lack of confidence, and living in the past. Bruce managed to put them behind and grow into the person he needed to be to face his challenge and find freedom. It was an amazing sequence that spoke to me in that way and this is why it's my all time favorite. It allowed the audience go through that journey and see Bruce RISE as well as yourself. A physiological breakdown perfectly put together in this sequence. Nothing will top this for me.

This trilogy and it’s symbolisms… man they can almost make u tear up. Wether u are going through depression or hard times in life, you are symbolically climbing rising and climbing out of your own pit. This was just like when Bruce fell into that well as boy and his father came and saved him. But his father was the safety rope. Now he didn’t have his father, he needed to climb it himself… without the rope. Just like Bruce used fear to strike it into the hearts of criminals he needed to use the fear he had of dying in that pit to motivate him to escape it. The fear of death is the biggest motivator in life, it’s what allowed him to rise.
