Can you imagine how fun this part was to film
@sha112358 жыл бұрын
I would know, since I was there. We filmed for two days. However, we had to get there at various intervals during the night to check in, get our costumes and props, and then sit in holding waiting for the sun to come up so we could shoot. And they filmed the charge so many different ways and to cut the action, they blew power horns. Believe me, it takes so much to get this stuff to work.

The point of this scene is that it's their last stand, their last chance. The bomb is ready to go off and kill all of them but instead of just waiting for the inevitable, the police try and make one last fight for the city; they do their job which is to protect the people of Gotham even if it means their death. It goes back to Harvey Dent's quote; "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain"; they could have done nothing and let everyone die but they made the choice to try and fight for their freedom and give their lives to do that. Even though they've hardly any weapons and no chance of victory, they still fight because it's the right thing to do

That's nonsense. Being a cop is a 9to5 job (unless ur working the 2nd or 3rd shift). First thing these 'badge-wearing civil heroes' would do is go home to their families first, take a much needed showers, eat whatever's left in the fridge during these hard times, and ponder on how to come back at Bane's goons with their trusty sidearm, because that's all they were left with. This scene of rushing against terrorists with assault rifles and tanks with the all-or-nothing-attitude is some pure Spartacus bullshit. Batman would not want these cops to do something so foolish as this crap, but in the movie all he does is destroy one out of three fuckin tanks and then flies off??
@cleomagoolando9 жыл бұрын
antediluvian99 Agreed. If these films were supposed to have won me over with their 'gritty realism', 'dark tone', etc..., this whole sequence pretty much fucks up all of that in one fell swoop. I prefer the alternate universe of...well, the previous movie in the trilogy, where the cops were a severely-flawed lot who were generally helpful to Batman's cause but also only human and capable of abetting some of the movie's worst disasters. Here, they're just waiting in the tunnel like the multi-ball option in the Batman-saves-Gotham pinball machine....no depth whatsoever.
@TheGryphon1119 жыл бұрын
antediluvian99 Even with the Bat-Chopper or whatever his flying device is supposed to be called, remember: Batman took an oath never to turn a gun on a human! Blasting Bane's men with that thing's guns would have been really convenient, but also totally non-Batman.
@TheGryphon1119 жыл бұрын
antediluvian99 WHAAAAT? Who cares about schedules and showers when there's a BOMB about to annihilate you and your city!? Besides, if they did waste time doing that sort of stuff after getting out, Bane would have caught on and purged them in nothing flat.

This is my favorite scene in the whole batman trilogy. Primarily because it shows the people standing against the villain and leading the charge. Batman is present but he is no longer leading the charge against the villain. I think this is the scene that really shows the city no longer needs Batman; the city won't fall apart as soon as he would be gone for good. It is a big change to go from yelling, "No more dead cops!" to being willing to die; fighting to defeat the villain at all costs. The Gotham cops would definitely not stand for any crap from anyone after this.

@@smonkedweed7414 So are you saying that the cops shouldn't try and retake the city from a group of people threatening to blow the entire city up with a nuclear weapon? The city was in good shape. They'd gotten rid of the mobs and other organized crime, the kind that would slit the throats of your family in the night if you got in their way or could possibly be a witness to their crimes. There wasn't exactly a big corruption problem anymore. Besides, how would it be better for the people to be put into a lawless balkanized state where you could have neighborhood fighting with neighborhood and mock trials with punishments far outweighing any alleged crime? The cops had the knowledge that the city was about to be nuked, that if they didn't retake the city there wouldn't be a city anymore. Doesn't that make a difference? Looks to me like they are giving a beat down to exactly the people they should be beating down.

Their bad aim is mostly psychological. Only about 1/4 of untrained people will fire in the direction of the enemy, and about 1/50 or 2% will actually shoot to kill. When dealing with another species we have the fight or flight response. However, when dealing with our own species to other options become available. That makes the choices fight, flight, posture, and submit. Try to kill them, run away, intimidate them into running or submitting, or you put up your hands and surrender. Most of the thugs shooting at the cops in this case are not trying to kill them, but are trying to intimidate or scare them into running away or surrendering. And in that case the loud noises made by the gun are ideal. This is why the slow firing inaccurate muskets were preferred over the quickly firing and far more accurate bow and arrow. Th musket is louder, and therefore is a lot better at being used for intimidation. This is because the vast majority of people do not want to kill another person under any circumstances. Nevertheless, the United States Military has been able to get that 2% number up to between 90% and 95%. That means our soldiers fire over 40 times the efficiency of most of our opponents around the world. This was done by switching to firing at silhouettes of people rather than circular targets, getting the soldiers more used to the idea and to develop a habit of shooting another person. There's quite a bit more to it, but that's the basic reasoning.

@HaipaYazoo10 жыл бұрын
There's a difference between improbable and unrealistic. A flying bat mobile are things that are a generally accepted function within the movie's reality. As improbable as it is for a flying bat mobile to function in real life, we suspend our disbelief to accept that it can happen in that world. Shooting waves of people that should account to hundreds of dead bodies is also improbable to borderline unrealistic (It's debatable). Unrealistic would be something along the lines of the Indiana Jones movies (i.e. Surviving a nuke by hiding in a fridge).

Without being well trained, when the moment comes to kill another person 3 out of 4 people can't get themselves to do it. The result of which is firing away and purposely missing. (I'm referencing the book, 'On Killing' by David Grossman) That is why our soldiers are trained often to charge head on into enemy fire. There lack of disciplined training makes them miss most of the time, and our superior training helps us to hit our target most of the time. That is one of the primary reasons our enemies have so many more casualties. A perfect example of this is the final battle in the movie 'Tears of the Sun'. So the goons' lack of aim at the charging police makes perfect sense.

+Michael Jensen no... there are hundreds of guys with automatic weapons opening fire into a condensed group of charging enemies from 20 meters and closing... A fuck ton of the police are going to die

+DavidStnl83 most of these criminals probably have never shot a gun before. Which means most of their shots either went above the cops or below them. Just because you got a big gun doesn't make you threatening unless you know how to use it. These criminals are like children as most are in the real world because they think just because they have a powerful weapon in their hand automatically means they're the best in the world when that is far from the truth. So it makes a lot of sense that not that many cops died. Cops are trained and criminals are just amateurs. You probably play way too many shooters that makes shooting a gun look easy

+DavidStnl83 For Bane it is about giving the cops false hope. Here the police are fighting for a chance to live and Bane knows that the bomb will go off and kill them all so it doesn't matter if his men shoot them down or not. if anything making them think they have a chance when they don't have one is more evil and it is Banes way of torchering Gotham to the very end

10 years its been today. I remember walking into the movie theater with my father that day, every scene stuck to me, it was an incredible movie as a 10 year old, and now as a 20 year old its brings tears to my eyes appreciating this master piece. Batman giving hope and confidence to the police as soon as his aircraft arrives. That to me is what batman represents, hope. Happy 10th birthday The Dark Knight trilogy.

I am pretty sure that fighting supervillains is not the responsibility of Gotham police. They leave that to Batman.

This is the only Batman movie in the trilogy (and in history) where the final battle takes place at dawn. They always took place at night.

After going through all the movies seeing batman getting chased down by the police and always having to hide at night time it’s so satisfying seeing him fighting alongside the police in broad daylight
