The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ranking Batman's Intros in the Nolan Films

We’ve seen Batman adapted from the pages of DC comics to the big screen many times over since the mid-1960s. From Adam West’s take on the caped crusader to Robert Pattinson’s most recent take in Matt Reeves’ The Batman- There has been no shortage of actors to dawn the cape and cowl of the Dark Knight. However, without question, one of the most respected and iconic renditions of Batman is Christian Bale’s three-film-run as Gotham’s defender. Those who experienced 2005’s Batman Begins in theaters were in awe at the first glimpse we got at Nolan and Bale’s creation. And in today’s Scene Breakdown- We're going to watch Batman’s introduction scene in each of the three movies in the beloved Nolan Trilogy- then we’re going to discuss the scenes, break them down and then rank each one from our least favorite to our most favorite.

I just re-watched both Batman Begins & The Dark Knight a week ago and they are both still perfect movies. I always loved how Begins shows off his training pre Batman. Rises wasn't with them on my streaming service, which was a bummer.

The Dark Knight Trilogy is an absolute masterpiece. I love how Christopher Nolan made everything realistic but still kept things close to the comics and cartoons. The Dark Knight is my favorite movie of all time. Christan Bale is my favorite live action Batman, and Heath Ledger is my favorite live action Joker. They both were like Kevin Conroy's and Mark Hamill's take on the characters but with a realistic tone.

Same here. Bale is my favorite batman and I love everything about the trilogy. I'm a die hard movie buff guy and there are a lot of movies I grew up watching during my childhood. A lot of them are awesome and some not so good. Out of all of them the dark knight trilogy was the crown jewel of my childhood. I'm a batman guy and he's my favorite superhero.

Definitely great batman movies. Im still a Keaton fan tho since i saw those as a kid in theaters, Nolans batman films are amazing, but in not going to lie, i like where the Pattinson film is heading.

I have to agree with your ranking of the Nolan trilogy Batman intros. I am on the fence between the Batman Begins in The Dark Knight Just As You Are but I have to go with the Dark Knight that scene where the Tumblr rolls in crushes the car and then he shows up and tells the guys he's not wearing khaki pads I love it

The ending of The Dark Knight Rises batman intro was completely omitted, the police chasing batman downtown and the incredible introduction to The Bat.

My favourite film is Begins (dark, gritty,grounded yet still so much hope) but the opening sequence of Dark Knight makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up to this day.

Tumbler was epic in the Nolan films- not like the tamiya that Snyder did 🤣🤣🤣- and the TDK suit was the best second for us was what Pattinson had on The Batman film

The Tumbler is my favorite Batmobile, filmed, published, animated, televised, or otherwise. What if a Ferrari and an Abrams tank had a child? That's the Tumbler in a nutshell. Fast, armored, and badass.

Just a note: Batman 66 was not the Caped Crusader’s first big screen appearance. That would be in the 1943 serial “Batman” with Lewis Wilson donning the cowl.

Oh no! He had to shoot something to make a ramp to launch himself, unlike in the The Batman, where he just had a ramp appear by chance.

Ever heard of the TV Series Gotham? It's one of my top 3 favorite TV Shows of all time. I also now own the whole series on DVD. I got it for Christmas.

Nolan's Batman is certainly the best Batman has on film, including the very flawed Rises, to the point of having a different storyline from the comics, where Bruce Wayne is solely devoted to vengeance as Batman.

Actually, everyone except Clooney has done either a passable or a great job. Pattinson, whom I just watched again last night, was fantastic, but Bale is my guy, even though I was raised on Keaton. But the Russian's "famous last words" were "how much you want?"

bearing in mind there were 4 previous Bat man films, something new was needed for a "re-imagining. putting the origin story to the front of the film & very wisely taking the time to explain his acquired combat skills, we as the audience were willing to be patient before getting into all the Gotham car chase stuff & it WASNT an anti climax when it came I thought. The costumes in the 3 films - for me DEFINATELY the BAT MAN BEGINS version, the others looked...foxy racoon like, also I didnt see the need for the change in design.(something Bale asked for I imagine), any way the best Bat man were ever going to get set in modern times, is BAT MAN BEGINS, to my mind.

What Nolan and Bale did was just amazing. Yes they did have him talk to much at times but they are still great . As for Pattinson I'm not a big fan. He was intelligent but never intimidating.

To me they got better and better. Batman Begins, TDR, and TDKR on top. Bane for me was just too great of a character. Nolans portrayed him as such a tragic character. Being the same age as Bruce gave him a calm which made him scarier than the growling beast so often portrayed in other media. He too was born in darkness but gives it away that he didn't see the light until he was a man. He suffered horrific injuries that caused him pain the rest of his life life protect a child from the other inmates. God knows how many years he suffered unable to fight back before Talia found her father. Believing he had a righteous cause and could rid the world of the kind of men who assaulted him he was then kicked out for being a reminder of the monsters he protected Talia against. A life if discomfort removing the mask to eat or drink and then finally his live with severe daddy issues wants a suicide mission to avenge the father who hurt them both.

The Dark Knight Rises is the best introduction of Batman. The Dark Knight is the weakest. Batman Begins is the one which gives the goosebumps.

I liked all the batmen/batman's over the years, but I absolutely HATE the growling voice in Christian Bales version. That stupid growl seriously annoys me to no end! But for me, my top 2 favorite batmen/batman's are Keaton and Affleck. Cheers 🍻
