I've had my Foray II jacket and pants for about 10 months. They have worked well, with a couple of areas for improvement. The pants are quite large so they pull over whatever you're already wearing. That's great, but the waist only has a thin bit of cord to secure it. They tend to slip down regularly. The other thing is the size of the collar on the jacket. If not fully zipped, it is a big funnel that catches rain and sends it down the inside onto your chest. Even zipped up, I still had this happen somewhat. If the drawcords are really tightened down well, that helps, but it is less comfortable that way. Overall, I'm very happy with it, and especially OR as a company and their excellent customer service. I'd say 4/5 stars.

Love the marmalade color on the foray. I run the foray II in coyote I'm in Nebraska so rain not as big of an issue as wind. And this thing cut wind like no other. I have the same colorway as you foray in a ferrosi which quickly became my favorite jacket. one of my favorite combos is the vigor full zip with the foray II. You're right they are expensive and worth every cent though I'm a PRO so it's not as bad.

Great Review Aaron, I use an REI GoreTex Active and pretty comfortable from about 30 degrees to about 78 degrees. Below 30 I just put on an insulation layer. Never needed the torso vents and this thing sheds water like magic. I do need to use the conditioner again soon but been going strong for about 4 years. Now this thing was CRAZY expensive at $490 but essentially I was told it is the exact same material as the Arcteryx, but at a MUCH cheaper price!!!! I laughed out loud when she told me that but she said there was a 50% off a 50% off sale so I think I got it for about $160 or thereabouts. Not really had an issue with spark holes but have not been around as many campfires as you have I would not think. Anyways think you have it dialed in - enjoyed the video, Good Luck and God Bless 😇

I started with the old military surplus GoreTex. Then a Cabela’s GoreTex jacket from the early 2000’s. The few newer much lighter versions I’ve tried just haven’t performed and/or held up like my old gear. I’m guessing your more cold blooded than myself...I see you trekking in the snow with your Ferrosi Jacket and I can’t help but to shiver. Mine ends up as a mid layer long before I see snow...thinking I’ve even living on the coast to long.

I thought the same thing about the south. But it still gets cold. I’d rather deal with 30 degrees than negative 10.

G'day Aaron, anything waterPROOF gets my attention immediately and as someone that heats up just walk'n the dog, those side zips are a fantastic feature. Yep not cheap, though pretty much on par with other high end jackets in my experience. I will say my Denali branded job; I paid 100 AUD, (70 USD), down from 300 AUD, (210 USD), (on sale, admittedly around 8 years ago), has everything this one has, bar its pit zips only, the point is, it quite literally pays to stay on the lookout for sales/superceded models etc. Good point on embers. Mind you its the same for most clothing, tarps, tents, sleeping bags, non-wool blankets etc. Gorilla tape, or similar .... dont leave home without it. I even carry a 1/2 size tube of silicone sealant car camping. Get the one that can be applied in the wet, I think its designed for emergency roofing, bathroom repairs and the like and sticks to just about anything. Btw; do you carry WP trousers too ? Cheers Duke.

You had me right up until the fire hole problem. Definitely a miss for me for camping & hiking. However, even around town you need a good rain & wind jacket that also looks good and I think that's where this jacket is worth a look. Happy trails all.

What do you currently use then as all synthetic clothing are very vulnerable to sparks? I know some people wear Fjällraven G1000 jackets/trousers as the presence of natural materials help prevent fire damage.

I’ve only been buying H2NO jackets because it’s a standard and not a membrane. That means each jacket model gets its own specific 3 layer waterproofing with all types of mediums used in the mid layer. I’m rocking a Rainshadow right now. I was worried it wouldn’t be durable enough but, it’s been way more durable than my previous mountain hardware jacket.

Great review! This jacket has been my best gear purchase of the year, by far. Usually wear a M, snagged a S on sale for $85CAD. The looser fit even allows for a size M puffy underneath.. love this thing! As for camp fires.. that’s what my old North Face is for haha

I bought my Foray last year. A blue medium and a green large. I’ve wore the blue twice. Once in just a very light rain for a few minutes. Just pulled it out this year and the hood had a stain about 2 inches wide and 3 inches long. Went all the way through to the inside of the hood. Ran water on it and the jacket got wet only there. Felt damp on the inside of the hood in the same spot. I am a little disappointed since the jacket is basically new. Not sure what the problem is since I know I did nothing to it. I am going to clean that spot and place new nickwax water proofing and hope for the best.

I prefer outdoor researches ascentshell stuff. Lighter, more breathable, less noisy. But ALL these waterproofs are only as good as the DWR coating, really. Once that fails (and it always will), you're screwed. I've since moved to poncho's for true 100% waterpoofness while still maintaining breathability.

Thanks for another informative vid. I have a great rain jacket by Simms. But living and hiking in Colorado we get our afternoon quick showers around 3pm. They usually only last 30 min. to an hour and the sun comes back out. So my preference is to use a Poncho that covers all of me and my pack. It goes on easy and comes off easy and dries rather quickly. A rain jacket only covers my top but my legs get wet. So the added weight of a jacket and pants and the difficulty of putting them on and taking them off doesn't out weight the ease of using a poncho.

The best unshown solution is from WWII Paras used it first what we now call Smok! The German "Knochensack" is the Prototyp of a modern smock. Also known as last fabric against mechanic abration, heat and fire. In conclusion, if you wear an M 65 over your rain coat or anything else like that up to a Kevlar Hoody for Riding you have enough outerwear protection to sit on an campfire

An outstanding review! I can foresee pairing this rain jacket with the Helikon-Tex Woodsman Anorak Jacket. The anorak when one does not need any rain rain or wind protection, but some coverage (if nothing else from being sun burned). The OR Foray II jackets comes into play when one needs rain and/or wind protection. Both garments have the full pit to hem zipper which adds so much versatility in controlling one's body temperature--and ease in taking off and putting on.
