There are two logical reasons to that. The anchor was probably trying to help maintain an air of calm - he didn't want listeners to panic. That sort of thing has happened, and caused other issues (just look at the War of the Worlds debacle). The second, he may not have been fully processing the danger he himself was in until near the end of the broadcast. Either way, props to him for maintaining his calm in a dangerous situation - not many people could do that.

I keep thinking about many absurd stories that were televised here in Brazil that would make great videos for the channel, like "Latininho no Domingão do Faustão", the baby who died live on the program "O Povo na TV", the soap opera starring Daniela Perez, "De Corpo e Alma" among other shocking events.

I went to Niagara Falls on a Monday evening in late November of 2015. I got there about 5:15, and was at first disappointed to find the parking lots empty, leading me to think it was closed. The guy in the parking booth just waved me through to the empty lot, assuring me it was ok to park however I wanted so I could get out. (I was towing an empty 30 foot boat trailer.) I park across a row of spaces and get out and he approaches and tells me "dude, just go in. Enjoy the view. You got about 2 and a half hours." I walked in, took the quick stroll through one of the gardens, and found my way to the observation deck. And I would have been completely alone up there, if there hadnt been a younger couple smooching on the deck. I was lucky enough to hit one of the biggest tourist attractions in America, and have it all to myself. No masses. No tourists. No kids. And 100% free

If I ever go to America I would never stay on the laid out path. Like aren't you allowed to enjoy the actual nature? Like seriously. Humans are nature. There is no restrictions on going wherever. You never see a rat or bird being shooed away just by existing and drinking in nature.... How extremely sad to have to be at specific places on the ground. It's an actual dystopia if that is the case! Like no one can actually own the earth. They will die one day, and who "owns" it then????

i’m a forensics minor and in one of my classes last year we did a case study on the Bradford fire. Our class watched the entirety of the video documenting the fire’s progression, and lemme tell you the sheer _SPEED_ at which the fire intensified is something I will NEVER unsee. I often compare it to the King’s Cross Station fire, which occurred in London 2 years after the Bradford fire and cost 31 people their lives. Ironically, it was found to have been caused by a carelessly-tossed lit match (likely from someone lighting a cigarette) that fell into the escalators and ignited the wooden materials, further fed by the flammable debris underneath. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it really highlighted just how avoidable both this disaster and the King’s Cross fire were, but also how many lives have been saved since then following the enactment of stricter building protocols.

One of the most haunting images from the Bradford fire was when the cameras caught someone walking out of the inferno. They were completely on fire. Police and spectators got to him almost immediately to put the fire out, but he died in hospital later that day. Some of those trapped in the upper stands chose to try and get through the inferno to get to the pitch. AFAIK, very few of those made it out alive. Even police were coming out of the stands with hair or coats on fire. Hooligans were on the pitch chanting team songs and cheering on the flames while people were burning alive behind them. It was utter bedlam. After that the commentator said, "This... is human tragedy." And it was. He'd gone from documenting a joyous occasion - a league trophy hoisting with his home team for the first time in 80 years - to a total disaster.

I'm from Bradford, Undercliffe to be specific, grew up here and I still live in Bradford currently (not undercliffe which is BD2 anymore) but my grandad, who also grew up in Bradford and was a die hard Bradford City fan (he traveled everywhere with the team back in the 1970's/1980's) he was actually supposed to be at this game because the stadium was walking distance from where he lived with my Nana at the time. The literal only reason he wasn't there in the stands that day was because he got too drunk in a pub and fell asleep at the bar. A girl at my primary school tho however, her dad was there that day and I remember she brought (with her dad's permission) the same Bradford City FC shirt he wore to that game tha they kept and never washed as it was put in a frame, I remember it still having stains on it and what not if I remember correctly although this is alot of years back now.

The first Niagara Falls story is so bittersweet. This man felt so hopeless, and he was giving up, then changed his mind yet got stuck, which I can imagine in that moment made him feel even more hopeless, which even reflects in him telling the rescuers to give up. But these people all came together and rescued him nonetheless. I just find that so powerful. There's a documentary that's too painful for me to watch about the small handful of people who survived jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. They all said that as they were falling, they regretted their decision and realized that they didn't actually want to die, they just wanted something to change in their life. That's often the case with suicidal people. The fear of death is so deeply ingrained into our psyche that most of us, no matter how depressed we are, truly do want to live. I used to struggle with suicidal ideation, so this is something I keep reminding myself to keep the thoughts from returning. And so far, it works.

I'm so glad that man survived his attempt! The rescue crew worked so and so efficiently, and it was clear this guy really wanted to live; I can't imagine being half submerged in fast, freezing water for over an hour and having any strength left at all. Most people who survive these split second decisions regret them and never try again, so I hope he got help for his gambling problem and turned his life around. As soon as you said they were bringing a helicopter in to try for air rescue, I assumed they would be approaching from the cliff side of the falls specifically because of the draft from the rotor. It's wild to me that they tried the approach from the river side, but you can see they were trying to come up alongside so he wasn't buffeted too badly. I can only assume they picked that approach because he would have been backwards and couldn't watch for when the harness/rope if they came from the cliff side, or maybe the spray off the falls would have made it difficult to operate; helicopters are pretty finicky machines, so they can only really work in specific conditions.

The more time it takes a person to find a method, the less likely they are to hurt themselves, so a casino located a few minutes walk from a huge waterfall seems a bit unwise. Like you said, many people who attempt to take their lives regret it instantly, so having such an fatal option so close has probably robbed people of an opportunity to keep living & turn their lives around.

@@jaynestrange Big agree about method and location, casinos love tourists though, so my guess is that there's a bunch close to such a huge destination landmark. I wish casinos could cut people off who start losing too much, the same way a bar can stop serving you if they think you're too drunk. It doesn't stop them from going to another casino, but it might help them think twice. Of course, that's not the MO of a casino, and it'd be near impossible to implement, but a girl can dream.

(This is a long comment) 7:57 The person you showed was of a very famous man named Karl Wallenda who exceeded in the ability to balance himself on extremely thin ropes while holding long poles. And Karl Was filmed on live tv doing the daredevil stunt. But then suddenly he started losing his balance. And he started shaking and crouched down. After realizing he was about to fall, he couldn’t do anything and could only think about this for 3 seconds before he fell off the rope on live tv. The camera didn’t show him hitting the floor but instead it showed 100 people flocking to where he fell in a desperate act to save him. Sadly, he passed away due to the fall. It was extremely shocking. Infact, you should put it in the next one.

Her grieving father, Sam Knott, was the mind behind the garden. He turned a place where tragedy occurred to a place where his family and others can come together and pay tribute to their loved ones who were murdered. Sam planted acorn saplings that were from their backyard to the garden, dedicating them to his deceased daughter. It is said that those acorn trees continue to grow throughout the county to this day. Some of the worst footage, all of it screened live on TV at the time, is horrific, there's footage of a man walking out of the stand after about 2 minutes and he's completely engulfed in flames, people rushed to help and a police officer threw his jacket over him and jumped on top of him to try and put out the flames, he got badly burned trying to help the guy but it was for nothing as he sadly died. The raw footage of the whole event is heart breaking to watch, it's one of the most horrific live TV events I've ever seen, it's surprising that outside of West Yorkshire, it's so rarely ever talked about. As fate would have it, I was supposed to go to the game but because I was naughty that week, my step dad grounded me and refused to take me. Funny how some things turn out.

Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

@@loveforeignaccents "not a crime" doesn't equate to "not a gravely irresponsible decision that directly brought about the deaths of innocent people". _If_ he wasn't an arsonist hooligan, then he likely _did_ feel guilt over his _actions_ that day, and he wouldn't be at all _unjustified_ in feeling that way. Your actions have consequences, whether they can be prosecuted or not-whether you act alone, or in concert with other parties that also bear responsibility and guilt. That's the thing about guilt-it doesn't "divide" when multiple different parties are at fault for a disaster, it _multiplies._ There is _always_ enough to go around.
