So for anyone who is confused, the woman in the hospital bed is the mother and the old woman is her daughter. The mother was in an accident when she was young which caused her to never age or die from old age. However, she had to hide this because people would think she's crazy and she has to change her identity every few years because the age on any Identification would not match her appearance. Also, the guy she falls in love with now is the son of a man she rejected in the past.

That second introduction was so powerful. Initially, she greeted him as a stranger. Then, when she finds out that “He knows” a relief sweeps over her and she embraces him as family. The walls come down and there is a sense of familiarity. It shifts to “I don’t have to pretend around you”. Beautiful.

That is beautiful ❤ My mom passed away 18 years last month. The things that we joked about, her singing she sang everything. A song comes on tv,radio, commercial a movie anything cartoon songs Elvis Presley she loved him. Now that shes gone, I sing all the time and my kids do too, I started reading her Elvis books, and I started listening. I heard in the Ghetto and it was just amazing i felt so close to her, I had my lil brother watch it, hes named after Elvis his middle name. We are going to go to Graceland. I had videos and 8mm tapes my mom had the camcorder on constantly after my boyfriend got it for me in high school. She was on that thing from 1996 until 2006. We don't remember her voice, laugh or smile. He doesn't remember anything about her, he was 10 she passed at home shed been in the hospital bed in the dining room I didn't handle it well. My stbx parents have everything and refuse to give my moms and Nannys things back. Claiming that they dont have it. Take lots and lots and lots of pictures just because she looks pretty, or is laughing you will cherish those memories. I smell her perfume and I feel closer to her. You're both so blessed❤

This clip is sad I’ve known the actress playing the daughter since I started watching movies my whole life and seeing her this old is sad. I think it’s so sad how we all have to go through aging. Becoming more and more aged and looking barely recognizable from our youthful years. I am a lot younger than her but on my way. These last few years I can see and feel the devastation of getting old. It comes on so quick I barely noticed until the last three yrs. When I turned 60 a lot of changes almost over night. I used to think older people exaggerated about the body aches. It’s horrible. I look different now more than the 40’s or 50’s but 60 is different the changes are more noticeable and I think that is sad. For everyone will look like this. My gosh even your voice teeth and eyes look old your skin your breath your nose. Your nose and ears keep growing. My nose is so much bigger. It’s all messing with my desire to always be the prettiest I can. I’ve took pride in my looks my clothes my makeup and hygiene my mind. But you can’t stop the aging. The makeup and clothes don’t matter. Your mind is the same but your physical outer appearance is that of someone you don’t feel like but you do look like. I still feel 14 in my mind. Not my body or face. lol that’s life. I think God helps us through this part. I’m not even close to being how I thought I would feel at this age. God helps you through it. Letting you feel ok about it. Not being depressed or even knowing how old I may look. To me and my mirror I still look beautiful.

@lourdesmariasanchez8388 Absolutely! Totally underrated film and beyond underrated performance! In a lot of romantic stories you hope that the actor and actress will have good chemistry... Blake had outstanding chemistry with everyone she shared the screen with! You never question the believability of her feelings toward Ellis or William, the mother/daughter chemistry between Adeline and her grown daughter (the tough love mom vs Flemming slipping easily back into the child role (regardless of age we never stop being a child in our parents presence, even though the perceived age level may vary)), Her old blind bff who is her only human friend (safe to continue to keep as a friend because her blindness removes all visible context clues). Even her interaction with the young counterfeiter. Not wants to you ever question that while she still looks to be in her mid to late 20s that she's mentally over a hundred years old. This is definitely on my list of movies that no matter how recently I've watched it, if it came on or something about it was mentioned I would be perfectly cool to rewatch it again and again and again!

Forget the romance, the relationship Adaline has with her daughter is so pure and so gut-wrenching to watch from Fleming’s birth to this point. Movies and shows like this really kick me in the heart, especially when they have a kid that gets older and older than the parent that isn’t aging (I’m looking at you, Forever). Dying sucks but Immortality is a curse that you wouldn’t wish on anyone.

Oh and in case anyone is looking for a tv show very similar to this, Forever was a good show. Used to be on ABC and had one season but I still liked it. Similar parent-child relationship as it is here. May be on Tubi but idk anymore.

To the commenters saying it is 'sad' that Ellen Burstyn looks old. This is nothing more than age shaming. Ms. Burstyn looks her age for heaven's sake and I hope she continues to land quality roles that are reflective of her immense talent. Have you looked at the actors who have pulled, sliced, filled, and hiked their faces? They look like freaks and are not getting roles. Cher, Goldie, Daryl Hannah, Zellweger, Stallone, Joan Hart, Courtney Cox, Demi Moore. The beautiful Blake Lively had a nose job in her 20s. Fabulous women who know their worth is not tied to a face that looks phony: Winslet, Streep, Maggie Smith, Bonam-Carter, Barrymore, Emma Thompson, Jodie Foster, Andie MacDowell to name a few. Aging is a privilege, just ask anyone who has lost someone to illness or worse. Stop the age shaming of women!

My mother would be 80 this year. She passed away 29 years ago waiting for a heart transplant. My father is 74 and he was in a coma the last two months and he is out of it and he’s talking and he’s doing better when I think about all things that my parents have done for me sacrificed the pain that they’ve suffered on my account I see how I am with my children. I am gonna be 50 in a week. I have seven children and two grandchildren. Love transcends time a transcends age love is love and love always always be a good thing. This always makes me cry my eyes out.
