I'm a gas engineer and had my tools stolen a few times. Side door got folded in half and windows smashed.. horrible feeling. But you will get through it.. I usualy give away my older tools to engineers who have had there tools stolen.. give it a few months and it will all be forgotten. Just learn from it, get an alarm and security or empty your van every day... I empty my van every day now and only take what I need for that day as tools get taken through the day aswell..

I work in social housing and all of our vans have van vaults for power tools. It’s only a mortice lock technically so not bulletproof but they’ll make noise trying to get in the vault.

As an old carpenter I know how crap it is having my van emptied, I try to not leave too much in the van now, can't be arsed with all the deadlocks. Last time I fitted them they just destroyed the van trying to get in, it's also a known trick that they come back to rob the same vans again after a few weeks, because they know those tools need to be replaced,

Any trades reading this, deadlocks and extra security are essentially useless at this point. The only way to protect your tools is to insure them in your van. Granted it's an extra expense but if these thieving gangs want to get into your van then they are getting in. I've added mine onto my public liability, and also bought a policy that pays out the purchase price of the tool instead of the market value. Something to think about...

In a matter of a couple of months, you're the second tradesperson I follow that got its tools stolen. I think the reason they target you guys is because they see from your videos what tools you have and where you keep them. I'm sure that fucking sucks, you save money to invest back into your trade and some asshole comes and wipes it all off. I hope you'll be able to rebuild, I love your videos! Especially those parts where you are open about your earnings.

Yup social media can definitely be used to more easily target people, though in this case, he has a plain grey unmarked van that looks like every other van you see on the road. So unless one of his neighbours set him up more likely just a random opportunist. Tool theft is on the rise in general

Get some small GPS trackers for your biggest tools, open them up and pop them inside that’s what I do, had one break in and had all my tools back within 24 hours and a “friendly chat” with the thieving little shit that took them with a few pals. A few tools with them in will lead you to the rest of them and for the cost of replacing them it’s well worth it. Good luck mate🫡
