I think the mother is to blame here, stopping him earning for 2 months has forced him into a bad decision, she isn't even enforcing her own rules because now she gets to spend more time with him. In return he gets a bit more money short term but perhaps loses the opportunity to start a building firm with you, and instead of learning a trade he's cleaning up after other people's children.

Good pay! Are you in the building industry? Only kidding but the trades have been destroyed by cheap labour over the last couple of decades. We should be on £1000 a day for just standard day rate which is possible on a price doing commercial work but not everyday (you would burnout). But like everyone wages are way below what they should be. My Dad was on close to the same prices we are on now and that was in the 80"s!!!!

My apprentice that I had for two years used to go on and on about money towards the end. He could not get his head around that he was an apprentice and he was learning. I kept telling him to keep learning and one day the money will come but he just couldn’t get his head around it and thought he should be paid more. Used to drive me mad. He’s not with me anymore but I’m pretty sure the grass was greener on the other side! It is a real struggle keeping apprentices happy

I didnt comment on the other apprentice videos because most the comments were backing the mother. They were wrong and she was wrong you dont ground your child from work you ground them from their social life. And with this other job etc i think you need to cut your losses... On the odd occasion hes with you your earnings are cut as your supervising.. And it clearly isnt going to lead to a competent worker at the end of it, as he isnt commited now. Take emotion out of it and find someone else, someone whos going to use your teachings for the rest of their working lives... And in return help you earn money.

Guessing he doesn't go to college with his apprenticeship with you then ..... If so what a waste of time and money .... Sadly sounds like his mum is a touch controlling, or thinks you're the issue as he can't work with you but can work with her. Not even looking at the bigger picture, a few years of poor pay but learning a trade that will carry him through the rest of his life, instead he opts for a little more money but no real future prospects. Well coming from a 4th year apprentice in BC Canada, o can confirm that thus was the best decision of my life. Your apprentice, I honestly don't think he was as committed to being an apprentice as you thought. The fact that he was bunking off college is a major red flag. The fact that he ditched you to go to do the inflatable bouncy castle shows that he doesn't have the drive or dedication. His mother also is to blame because what sort of logic is it that she has to ground him from starting a new career where he is earning and learning. I am also confused now because in some of your earlier videos, you had Junior going to Wales with you with a budget to start getting his own tools. Now that he has the tools, and has now spent some time working with you he has obviously picked up some skills. Yes he may not be the best or the fastest but the same can be said for everyone getting into carpentry. It takes time to learn and improve your skills, I know because I am experiencing that myself. Finally the fact that he was more into working on his clothing line speaks volumes that he heart is obviously in fashion rather than being a chippie.

I was on a job and another contracted actually was clocking my long time labourer George, then he actually approached him in front of me and asked did he want a start with his firm? George just answered him with "no thanks mate, I am fine working with Jeff." I then told the contractor to "fuck off," while standing there laughing my head off at him walking away..😂
