(Edited Version!-The RANT at the end was edited in…enjoy)The Day Phil Ivey made Phil Hellmuth QUIT CASH GAMES! on High Stakes Poker

Just for everyone watching this who didn’t see the original airing: Hellmuth did NOT curse out Ivey at the end. This uploader added that in. Hellmuth graciously said good game, then walked out without saying a word. A bit dishonest, but I guess the user has the right to edit.

Oh yeah, having these sick tables with Negs, Gus, Dwan, Ivey, Esfan, Doyle, Elezra (or what's his name, that scary gangster looking dude), Patrick A, Tony G, and so on... They were all great and entertaining players, it was fun to watch them. They would actually talk and be proper to gentlemen (besides sometimes Tony G when he won a big hand), but it was still entertaining and part of his character. I feel a lot of these new guys are either wannabe Ivey or they are so covered up it shades, headsets, caps and whatnots and doesn't do anything. Ah, the hood old days when it was just a bunch of guys with nice watches (except some of Antonio Esfan's collection of satellite dishes) swapping cards and money around as a pass-time between the hookers and blow.

Hellmuth's problem is the same now as it's always been, ego. His ego gets in the way of his instincts. He makes a good fold, second-guesses himself, and makes a mistake later. The other pros also know how to use his ego against him. They just needle him and needle him and needle him until he tilts, goes against his instincts, and does something reckless.
@MrDaniPak2 жыл бұрын
its interesting, Ivey said one of the things makes him (Ivey) a great player, is cause he moves on from previous hands, mistake or not
@LucianDevine2 жыл бұрын
@@MrDaniPak 100% Agree. It's important to remember those hands, but not let them negatively affect future hands. Tilt is just one step from the rail if it catches you at a bad time.

i don’t think hellmuth really has a problem with poker bro lol.. no one is completely immune to tilt. yeah, he gets heated when he loses, as long as he wins considerably more than he loses, hard to identify any weak point as a problem. an imperfection may be a better description.
@LucianDevine2 жыл бұрын

Daniel is an interesting character, he knows how to play Hellmuth perfectly. Hellmuth likes Daniel and that allows Daniel to jack him around a bit and not get Phil too tilted. Daniel also has a bit of finesse, a 'soft touch' when he teases Hellmuth. The opposite of a Tony G. for example. With respect to talent, I've always felt that Daniel was the best player in cash games generally speaking, with the possible exception of Phil Ivey. He makes more correct calls consistently than anyone else. He has good emotional control of himself, a not-so-easy quality to have in this game.
@dcworld43492 жыл бұрын
Ivey outplayed him because Hellmuth would have felt forced to go call with AA or KK but he is never comfortable in cash games going in with that much money pre-flop. I think Ivey put him on AK possibly JJ, or 10-10 so if he had AK he would feel uncomfortable calling 4 times his original raise wanting it to be expensive for him to get a pair.

My humble opinion of Hellmuth is that he needs to take a break. Recently I've noticed that his behavior when he loses a hand has gone over the edge. He makes facial gestures as if acting out internal agony. The gestures I've been seeing are a new thing, troubling to me. I'm expecting him to have an anxiety meltdown, not that I want to see anything like that. Burnout is real and he's been at it for 30 years, he needs a 6 month or 1 year hiatus, but I don't know if he's got it in him.
