Excellent advice. 51 years in various saddles. Drinking and riding NEVER mix. You’re so right about angry and tired. Sometimes your head isn’t in it, if I feel that I’m not fully aware/concentrating appropriately, I’ll just turn around and go park her in the garage. I have never regretted cutting a ride short if I don’t feel like I can do it safely.

I’ve been riding now for over 55 yrs and still ride at the age of 63 yrs in that time a lot has changed , however and sadly people still loose their lives because ambition and capability are two different things , new riders need mentoring , encouraging, and patience, look after new riders and tell them of their mistakes and nurture them with understanding , we all had to learn and continue to learn , look after newcomers in your group and enjoy it together as a group cheers be safe and ride free . Tell ya mate who is new to riding to practise slow riding. Has helped me gain confidence a lot faster. Also looks better in traffic and groups when you can ride slow and not duck walk every where 😂

My Three biggest mistakes new HD riders make :- 1 buying HD gear , look around there’s better cheaper. 2 returning to dealer for service and improvements. 3 not getting involved with the bike and the right group of lads and ladies to to set you right. You sir are 100% accurate about new riders and this is a video ill be saving to share. As a new rider that chose a Harley V-rod muscle before ever even riding i recognize my mistake. It is a heavy, but immensely powerful bike. However, im 6'-2" and 215 lbs, and can manage it. If i could go back in time, i would have gotten something much more beginer friendly, but i liked what the V-rod muscle offered. Mines a 2009 and i love it.

great advice for newer riders and 1000% agree that riding tired\angry\ego are as dangerous as riding while impaired. Also 55 yrs old with 13 years of riding and i'm just having to retrain myself on a large sport touring bike from riding cruisers.

Truth be known, when I ride with six or seven individuals, we put the slower-newer riders at the front where we can keep an eye on their skill-set and possible forays.

I’m glad you mentioned anger. Riding under the influence of anger (or even bad mood) is hugely under rated. I simply don’t touch the bike or the car if I’m in bad mood and I wish other people did the same. Some of the most dangerous and awkward situations I’ve seen out there have been triggered by anger. I don’t know if it’s the general though economic situation most of the world is going through at the moment, but lately I see more and more of it.

Im 52 and have been riding since I was 4 years old (Still have my 1975 Indian 50cc that I started on, much smaller then my StreetGlide ST!) All of these tips are 100% accurate and should be followed. Being a defensive minded rider is whats kept me out of trouble so far.

I really like riding in a group, but only with guys I know. That’s because I know how they ride. Group rides are much more noticeable to all the folks in cages too I believe.

Another great video with some very good advice and biker wisdom for new riders. Always a hard topic to discuss with new riders as most of the time they are affected by the excitement of finally getting on a bike and feel they have something to prove. My mates and I are always just telling them to ride to they limits and conditions. We will have their backs when needed! A good ride at the end of the day is the one where you return home safely! Hi Aymen, I’m 65 and have not ridden for about 3 years due to a back injury in which I had to have a back operation. Now I have recovered and got myself another Harley but I have noticed I’ve lost my skillset and have incurred some fear riding. Too many things are going through my brain like what if! But I will take on board what you’ve said and see how I go. All the best Bob!

Take a little time on a small bike to hone slow speed manoeuvring before getting on a big harley. Could save you big bucks and get your skills there quicker.

Working for years in Motors and as a training officer the importance of slow speed maneuvers separates those who will pass and who will fail, in fact, no one advances in the motor officers class until they can do slow speed turns and u-turns. This does not mean you cannot ride a motorcycle or Harley for that matter but a beginner may want to start on a lighter bike like a Softail because if you cannot master the basics on a 500 lb bike your mistakes are going to be amplified 10 fold on something like a Road Glide which is tipping the scale at 900 plus pounds with the rider. I've seen people who have told me they've been riding 20 plus years go wide in turns, not be able to make a u-turn or for that matter make a u-turn on a 2 lane highway or cannot swerve their bike effectively because they refuse to lean their bike which is a recipe for disaster on the roadway for both the rider and other drivers. Spot on, ride at your skill level and don't try to keep up with a group of riders that have been riding much longer. Ride in the back of the group. This almost bit me in the ass.

On this past Mothers Day, sitting in my garage here in small town Northeast Ohio, I heard a loud crash. Not 150 yards from my house, a young dude, 32 years old, on a crotch-rocket was doing about 50 in a 25mph zone when a lady in a small SUV pulled out in front of him from a side street. She never saw him. By the time I ran over to the scene, he was on the ground moaning with a few bystanders trying to help him. His bike was in a thousand pieces. The SUV was totaled, with the left front wheel ripped from the suspension. I estimate he flew about 40 feet through the air and never had time to hit the brakes. Local Police reported that the rider died at the hospital.

Got deja vu with this one. Sure I’ve seen it before. 🤷🏻‍♂️

What is the worst mistakes that Old Riders make or so called more experienced riders????

some guy said I rode too fast. I said, "I don't ride fast, I just ride more efficiently than you."

Another 'deadly' mistaek that new H-D riders make and that's going out and buying a bike, then not telling their next ex-wife until it's parked in the garage. Wear protective gear fellas, as she might get you with the door on the way out.

Ummm no front break in the corner? No , you should use your front break to trail threw the corner. The rear break will stand up the bike and make you go straight unless you trail break softly. But yeah I've been practicing front break trail breaking. Good luck drive safe and it's your ride, ride it safe..... Honda Fury's are cool too
