Thank heaven 'The Defenders' was shown on the BBC - there were no commercials, just straight-down-the-middle realistic drama. I loved it when I was a kid.

Agreed! I'm glad I found this series, it's well-written, nuanced and well-acted. The thought behind this one is very interesting: In defending a person's civil liberties, we defend the American ideal - so true!

Very sophisticated tv series. Too sophisticated for today 2021

It was right on it's time! I remember the turbulence of the early 60's and all the great music and drugs that came out of the late 60's and the Indy label sub cultures from 1975 until rock stopped being the music of a generation! Stopped watching commercial television in 2016! Got books, VHS, dvd's , you'd be surprised what the library has and a smart tv I CAN'T WAIT TILL THEY GET SANFORD AND SON COPIES IN SOON! funniest tv comedy ever! Librarian sez.. it's not in our system. I said WELL GET IT IN YOUR SYSTEM! WHY YOU THINK I COME IN THE LIBRARY EVERYDAY FOR? YOU KNOW I CAN'T READ!

Love those prime time uploads! The u.s. stopped showing cigarettes on tv in 1971 but they still show them on tv in Japan. Art history! Shows these 50 and under kids what life was like when I was young.

Brilliant episode. Cold War espionage. Big issues. Discussed in depth. No other show like it.

Great episode! I know you cant do anything about the quality, but I certainly appreciate the upload. Really enjoyed it. Wish I could watch all 4 Seasons (already have the first on DVD).

I think I recognize Fritz Weaver from a Twilight Zone about an Obsolete Man. It's very disappointing when The Defenders offers a preview of the next episode, but it doesn't seem to be on KZfaq.
@fromthesidelines9 ай бұрын
Fritz appeared in two episodes of "THE DEFENDERS" (including one early in season one, "The Riot").

This episode was the inspiration for scriptwriter Larry Cohen's short-lived (but well-remembered) series Coronet Blue.

I loved Coronet Blue. It was a Summer Replacement Series. Frank Converse was great in that.

Looks like all 13 episodes of "Coronet Blue" are available on KZfaq. I'm gonna check it out...
@fromthesidelines9 ай бұрын
"CORONET BLUE" was originally produced for CBS' 1965-'66 season; James T. Aubrey, CBS' ruthless president (who ordered several series from Herb Brodkin), had an "iron-clad" contract for 13 episodes, and originally "pencilled it in" on Fridays at 10pm(et). After he finished his proposed schedule, he was fired from the network. His successor, John Schneider- and several CBS executives- altered that fall schedule, removing most of Aubrey's preferred choices- and managed to "postpone" the series until May 1967, when it was scheduled as a "summer series" on Mondays [10pm]. To the network's surprise, it started to build a following........but Frank Converse had already signed with ABC for "N.Y.P.D." that fall, and continuing the series was a moot point.

Exactly four months after the beginning of the Cuban Missile Crisis. I remember how the country was on tenterhooks back then. It was pretty courageous to have an episode about espionage that didn't paint the accused in an entirely black light.

Horrendous commercials
@jillgarlick21223 жыл бұрын
Why? No worse than any commercials. They are all designed to encourage us to buy things, but we don’t have to, not now and not then. I guess I understand you to a certain extent, I feel similar when I see ads for alcoholic drinks.

We wouldn't have any TV shows to watch on "network" TV. Take out a loan to watch cable. Now, a message from our sponsors.

The commercial breaks then were exactly one minute long, unlike today, when the breaks today run as long as 6 minutes.
