BEGAFILM - HISTORY IN MOTION

4 жыл бұрын

This time we have a new video about the Platterhof / Hotel General Walker on the Obersalzberg. The pictures are from us and have never been shown in full length before! It is unprocessed raw material!
Since 2001 the Platterhof (or also called Hotel General Walker) does not exist anymore! It was torn down by the Bavarian State Government!
Have fun and stay healthy,
BEGAFILM
Since our material is completely stored on old film tapes and not yet digitized, it costs a lot of time and money to prepare it for KZfaq. Therefore we are dependent on your support. We are grateful for every Euro.
We promise that 100% of all donations will be used for the creation and digitalization of new videos and we have set up various ways for you to support our project:

Because people thought of Hitler when they looking at it. They might as well destroy all Germany according to that.. Meeh these reasons are for the people who never think of government corruption and money interests, these are the reasons that this building was demolised.

I stayed there many times in my Tour in Erlangen Germany 2/6 INF 1AD 1985-1990. I explored all of Obersalzburg with my girl Petra which I met at Lake Konigsee hot springs in the middle of a snow storm. Truly a mesmorizing Complex. The SS Troops there were known as Foggers, the giant Holes you see in the sides of the Mountain @1:35 lined the Roadway and the complex. The Troops made Steam pour out those Holes making a Cloud Layer over the Complex. Sad to see it was destroyed such a unique place

Gute Zeiten!

Kempinsky, owner of a chain of hotels worldwide and a Jewi a businessman, had a huge influence over the decision to destroy this magnificent hotel which would have stood in sharp contrast to the new ultra modern, white elephant, architecturally inappropriate for this beautiful Alpine setting. Face itself, the Walker would have been competition for Kempinsky. Was Kempinaky's Jewish background also a factor? Lastly, it was out of the hands of the Bavarian government and came out of Bonn. Tragic.

Despite being a Nazi building it was probably built by slaves who probably never made it. I would prefer it to stand as a gesture to their lives and effort. I am entrigued did they go down as far as the tunnels to remove everything or just fill it up. I wonder if anything else was discovered during demolition

@@rancidschannel3206 well much of the construction work was carried out by the construction and engineering firm Hochtief, the same company that Speer often used for other large scale projects. While it’s true that during the war Hochtief did use slave labour on various projects I can’t find any evidence of it on the Obersalzberg. Just from the general appearance of the workers in all the footage and pictures I’ve seen of the various constructions, I would suggest they aren’t. I am happy to be proved wrong though! Interestingly the company commissioned their own book some years ago depicting their history in great detail, as a means to be fully transparent about their work during the third Reich. I do have a copy of it but I’ve yet to read it (it’s called, Hochtief and its History - From the Helfmann Brothers into the 21st Century by Manfred Pohl & Birgit Siekmann ). If it details anything specifically about slave labour on the individual sites I will report back.

The building itself was very strongly build, but renovating the interior and bring it up to todays standards as a modern hotel would probably not being cost effective. 50 Years of American military use and doing very little maintenance technically and on the interior was not worth the effort to keep it. Have a look at some YT movies on how the hotel looked in the last years of its use.
