Great tutorial Chris. Although I'm a little disappointed that no mention was made that Charlie Daniels "borrowed" the main riff from "Lonesome Fiddle Blues" by the great Vassar Clements. I play Lonesome Fiddle Blues occasionally and get the inevitable comment, "Oh yeah! Devil Went Down To Georgia!"
@TheFiddleChannel
@TheFiddleChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Randy. You're right, I should have mentioned that! The story I heard is that Daniels wrote the song so fast he didn't even realise he's pinched the tune. When he found out later, he agreed to split the copyright with Vassar. I suspect Vassar made a whole load more out of The Devil than he did from Lonesome Fiddle Blues!

Chris, I was so surprised & fortunate to find your book “The Fiddle handbook” in an Ollie’s bargain store here in the states. And what a bargain it was! I’ve had it for a few years before discovering the KZfaq channel. Loving your tutorials. Thanks for doing it… but … did you just sing ‘and he WERE willing to make a deal’?🤭 😉keep up the good work!

@@TheFiddleChannel I was just teasing about your proper English. Charlie Daniels sang ‘he WAS willing to make a deal’. My dad is from Virginia and me mum from Liverpool, so I pick up on those details rather easily.

What in the blank is the riff at the end of this song called? I know several songs that end the exact same way, a hard run down a chord, but I cannot figure out what it is called or how to learn the technique.

Could you, in another video, break down just the devil's part and explain it in terms of music theory? It almost sounds like overlapping pentatonic scales though I could be mistaken.
@TheFiddleChannel
@TheFiddleChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Hi David. Are you referring to the underlying riff of the Devil's solo, rather than the fiddle part? The riff is based on the minor blues scale (pentatonic plus a flattened 5th). I think the fiddle solo is pretty random and not based on any scale!
@davidbingley6734
@davidbingley6734 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheFiddleChannel Thank you for your reply. 80) I get the pentatonic blues in the riff, since you explained it. If, however, the fiddle part is random, how did he keep reproducing it?
@TheFiddleChannel
@TheFiddleChannel 2 жыл бұрын
On the Devil's solo there are two fiddles playing simultaneously, so he wouldn't have reproduced this live.
