The Kings might end up having the best backcourt rotation in the league. Fox and Monk can get buckets at any moment and Keon and Carter can clamp down on defense. We can upgrade other positions through trades and free agency. Carter was the best player available and we're lucky he fell to us.

Precisely!! Kings fans do not yet realize what they have in this young man. The Kings are in position to win the Western Conference with Devin Carter in the lineup. With one or two smart free agent moves the Kings are a threat to take the NBA championship. Devin Carter is the steal of the 2024 draft.

It's interesting to me, he obviously wasn't a "fit" pick, only cuz he's a guard. And it's arguable he wasn't best available, because all the mocks, (and actual picks) were all over the place. On Monte's board, he was best available, ESPN at the time of the pick had I believe, Knecht and a couple others there .... The draft is an article, not a science ( metrics not withstanding)

For those fans complained about this draft, think about the time when Fox was out. We hoped Domas, Murray, or even Monk picked up the slack but none of them did. Those two Houston games hurt the spirit of the team during the early season of last year. Carter might fill the hole if somehow Fox misses games this season.

Davion and Huerter are just not that good of players. Davion is a point guard that cannot distribute and lacks playmaking abilities. Huerter is just bad all around. Hopefully they are both gone next season for better pieces.

Who are we trading them for exactly? Without that 13th pick we have no trade stock whatsoever. This is the 10th guard on the roster for the Kings, just shameful. We need size, length, and athleticism. We don't need a guy smaller than me.

Last year Brown continued to rotate through the rotation looking for a guard to do what he wanted. We now have that guy and frees up more guards to package in a deal to get the player that we need to add to this team. This was a smart move especially if monk demands to start he would be a great 6 man. Now I’m excited to package Hurter & off night plus picks for a player that makes this team better.

When Monty drafted Keegan everyone said the Kings should have drafted the best player available Jaden Ivey. Now everyone is upset that Monty drafted Devine Carter the best player available. Clearly Mike Brown isn’t comfortable starting Monk or playing him more than 22 minutes a game. Brown also doesn’t trust Davion, Heurter, Jones or Duarte.

I think it’s a great opportunity to set our backcourt for years to come. But it’s a risk that will only pay off if we can move pieces to get the length and versatility we need on the wings & forwards

I'm not frustrated with the player, Carter seems like a talented basketball player. It is the position that has me frustrated. I don't think I'll be ok with this pick until a trade is made. However, it doesn't seem Monte can get a trade done so we might be stuck with 8 guards. As of right now, Monte draft grade is a D-

Just a horrible take honestly. Horrible. I don't blame you since others feel the same way. But you always draft for talent with a pick like this. Always. He was pretty clearly the best player available, and he'd a perfect fit. 6/9 wingspan. Great defender. Shoots well. He's basically a davion upgrade. It's pretty clear huerter and davion will be on the way out. If not this year then next year (and we just have to deal with the log jam for a year). But most likely we are fine. Theres no way we were getting a big in this draft.

I am fine with this pick. Yup we need a solid Pf but we also must not to forget how bad this team was at defending 3pt. Next we must trade michell, huerter and barnes. I think its still posible to get Kuzma. As far as i read they are intetested in michell and huerter. Just go for it even if we would need to add future 1st. Maybe we can get kispert too then. Atm i see as guards roration: fox, monk, ellis and carter. Maybe ellis could cover Sf position too a bit. I see monk as backup Pg since we must find a way to give him at least 30 mpg. Also if avdija was available (didint see this coming) maybe there are or will be other options that doesnt seems available atm. Maybe Markkannen?:) all in all i hope Monte will be agressive and will use future picks if needed. I will be happy even with risky moves. P.s. want to say to host that i really like this podcast and your emotions. I am from country where basketball is a sport number 1 and people here often say that nba is more about making money and show its great too see that there so many people that really loves this game. I can tell you're delusional based on the fact that you think a man who's my height is going to play the 3, or small forward in the NBA. Keon Ellis is 6'3" tall, he's not a 3 dude. This was a miss, no other way to dice it. This was the 10th guard on the King's roster.

As far as i see Ellis is listed 6'6, i believe he can play sf for short time. I mean coach will need to find a way to use all those guards. J.Holiday started as pg but at some point played as sf in NO. The biggest problem would be if we would keep mitchell.

Hey Matt. Saw your initial reaction from a previous video from being pessimistic to now being optimistic! I'm with you on the optimistic side.. I really like Devin Carter and is my #1 choice at #13. I really believe he is the best choice ans I wouldn't worry to much about the guard position coz we all know one of Davion or Huerter won't be back next season. Carter could easily replace Davion as Fox's backup

C+ draft pick. He's a good player. But how many PG's do we need. But they should have drafted Dalton Knecht, or trade down and get Terrance Shannon Jr. Both players would have played a better role for the Kings. Monte is a really good GM, and I think Carter is a good player, but not a fan of this strategy.

Right now, we have 3 very defensive-minded guards, and yeah, to your point, it is a problem, so I think Davion might be on the move, given the recent surge in his stock and expiring contract, for a team who wants to free up cap space, perhaps?

I was also WTH with the pick, but as I learned more of Carter he sounds like he could be a good fit, possibly an upgrade from Davion. I too believe this was a best player/best fit pick. Monte opens up some assets to trade specifically with 8 guards. With all the trade rumors we have heard that never materialized, this has got to be asset management, preparing to hit that trade market with a few added assets to bargain with. Monte and staff are shopping, the price to aquire the calibre of player they want might be steeper than we want to believe, two good players to get one slightly better player. As I recall the Domas trade was a complete shock, I believe Monte is bundling trade package assets based on what he has faced thus far in trade efforts, and we have yet aother shock coming soon. This was a chess move of sorts setting up for a move yet to come. Davion, Huerter, and Duarte even more expendable now. Monte and crew are going to get the player they want, it is going to cost a little more than we would like, and thats a reality this pick just made more possible. Our Kings are going to get better in the coming months, it is simply going to cost more to get the job done. Good pick Monte!!!

Has anybody watched Devin Carter's 2023-2024 Highlight package on KZfaq? I watched and you know who Devin really reminds me of? A more athletic Jalen Brunson! Yes, more raw and not as good of a playmaker yet, but very similar style of play. Devin even has Jalen's drive-stop-turn-turn again move. NO doubt, this guy is going to be a VERY good NBA player.

Honestly its not a bad move for the future. I see him becoming a reliable player in a few years. Obviously we have a ton of guards but thats gonna change because we have to trade. I have faith that we can trade for someone worthwhile at the 3 or 4 later on this offseason.

We need a wing and we got another small guy. We have Mitchell, Jones, Ellis, Ford, Duarte and now carter on the bench. The Kings office is striking out again, and the Lakers pick up Knecht which was the wing who could have been a great pick (lakers grade was an A+). Could have pick up a big man with that pick to back up Domas.

I'm getting so sick of this take lol... For one, he's not a small guy. He had one of the highest verticals at combined and has a 6/9 wingspan. Second, there was no wing/big to take that's better than Carter. Carter is a better long term fit than huerter or davion. Last, trades are very likely coming. Huerter, davion and barnes will be out if a deal can be made. So we will start monk, and have eliis and Carter as backups. This was an extremely solid draft pick. Guys like Carter are very hard to come by that late in the lottery. I mean hell he had more blocks last year than the entire kings team combined lol. And averaged 9 boards as a guard. He's a terrific long term fit. People are being too short sighted on fit. Monte has said they aren't done with the off-season. The only blame I have is they couldn't trade the pick to get someone like kuzma, but that's somewhat out of his control. We got a bit unlucky mossing the playoffs since it means we couldn't include future picks in the draft.

He's a small player with a huge wingspan, and a lot of toughness. Upside is he's the best of Mitchell and the best of Keon plus a little more shooting. Not a bad move.

He has a wingspan of a Small Forward at 6'8". Comparatively, Domas has a wingspan of 6'9", so you have to be 1. Really impressed that Domas is working with such a short wingspan as a center 2. Excited regarding Carter as he's very grindy and averaged 9 rebounds as a guard in college. So not that undersized.

Hopefully you're right . Hopefully we are not done because this team right here will not beat the pelicans . My whole season this year is based on beating the pelicans because if we can do that than we can beat other teams as well with length being our weakness? Do you guys think this pick helps us get in the 8th spot ? What will starting rotations look like with this young man ?

@Jay-hi3lt It's a shared feeling. I see Fox Monk Carter and Ellis taking up the majority of the guard minutes. If I'm the KINGS im making a move for a wing. If the wing is Kuzma or Cam Johnson im not trading Barnes. If it's Paul George or Brandon Ingram well say bye Huerter and Barnes but then the Kings lack depth at the wing

@clytnjms Duarte is a shooting guard, that's all. Same with Huerter. The only one guard out of all 10 that plays any other position is Mason Jones. Yes it's worth telling someone they're wrong when their entire job is contingent upon them getting facts straight. Stop trying to change reality fanboy.

@clytnjms neither Duarte nor Huerter are a 3, both are 2 guards. The only guard on the roster that plays the 3 is Mason Jones. Yes, absolutely worth correcting his errors. His job is to know the roster, to know the team. Is it that hard to accept Matt is wrong? fanboy?
