In my Silverado, I've run 4ga from my 2nd battery into the cab for my RCI2970N4...and 4ga from the frame to radio for my ground. IIRC it was a ~10ft run from battery to radio and ground is about 6ft. I used a breaker for my fuse on the hot wire.

My radios about to make KZfaq celebrity status being in all these videos lol. I bought the new cord and just got done running 4 gauge wire from the battery to inside the truck. I guess I’ll use some of the smash on battery cable ends and bolt the 4 gauge to the 8 gauge inside the truck. May actually shorten the 8 gauge and keep it 4 as close to the radio as possible. I just gotta come up with an 8 gauge inline fuse from somewhere now.
@sammycaban526411 ай бұрын
In PR, what we do is put the 8-gauge cable directly to the radio and we change the capacitor... and you'll notice the difference. I leave you a clue..73

12 foot would be good length I think. Why not just change the connector on the back of the radio to a 30 Amp Anderson connector. I always wonder why they have stuck with this outdated connector for so many years.

If I crimp in 8awg on a 447, will I need to do anything else? Is that really hard on factory 12awg that shoots out the back of the radio our not really. It's just for casual mobile use

Question. Why do you always test them radios or amps beyond the usual 13.8 volts that this equiptments will be operated on? Just curious and thank you sir.
@Rooster_Radio Жыл бұрын
Because the power supplies that I sell along with most other power supplies being sold today run at a minimum of 14.5 volts. Also many vehicles run over 14, 14.5.
@dereklea1183 Жыл бұрын
13.8 VDC is the industry standard on a service bench but some vehicles produce more voltage. My vehicle puts out 14.2-14.3 VDC on a consistent basis. I’ve seen some vehicles produce 14.5-14.7 VDC. If equipment is tested at 13.8 VDC then it will give a good baseline of what the average vehicle will produce. I’m sure consideration is taken for voltages reaching the radio based on the size of the power wiring. The length, and gauge, of the wiring will have an affect on the voltage the radio receives as well as the RF power output meaning that the radio could possibly be fed with more than 13.8 VDC. Each situation is different, and unique, for RF output based on these conditions. I’m assuming that’s why he tests the equipment beyond the 13.8 VDC you’re witnessing.

My radio and the new cord showed up today and I can attest to the numbers in this video. With stock size cord run all the way to the battery just keying up made the meter fall .5-.6 volts, with 4 gauge cord run inside the truck and the stock cord bolted to it with crimp on battery cable ends it was dropping .3, now with the new 8 gauge cord bolted to the 4 gauge it drops .1 so almost none at all. It drops from .1-.2 when I actually talk into it where it was at least 1 full volt. This is all on am. Anyway the numbers shown in this video are legit and I would recommend anybody with a 655/955 upgrading to this cord. Rooster you can send me another one when I send you my other 955 for the all the way mods. Of course now you know I’ve got this other new toy to play with but I’ll still get around to it soon lol.

Almost 2v with the original cord should be not acceptable. Also power strips usually have too much voltage drop. Even roll your own with 10 ga would be a lot better than original and even better at more cost is oversize fuse holders available at stereo shops or even Wally World.
