In this Scrum Tapas video, Professional Scrum Trainer Guus Verweij discusses how acceptance criteria can be added to Product Backlog Items individually in additional to an overall Definition of Done and why it may be a good idea.

Hello, Great video. Question : How do you see the following as DoD: 1) Analysis is done. 2) Coding is done. 3) TDD based verification is done. 4) Testing is done. 5) Documentation is done. 6) Packaging and deployment is done. Please let me know. Thanks.

I disagree. The DoD CAN apply to any individual PBI...AS a matter of fact...the Scrum Guide supports me in this..."When a Product Backlog item or an Increment is described as "Done", everyone must understand what "Done" mean". That's directly lifted from the guide. Whats more, ANY PBI can itself be an Increment and therefore, the DoD....even by the standard you've quoted STILL qualifies to have that DoD apply to it individually. May there be things defined in a DoD that do not apply to THAT single PBI? The answer is, yes. Because the DoD applies to how it guides the team in planning what items it may bring into a Sprint and some things in the DoD may need to be there in accordance with standards that may apply to the work that come from different places for different purposes and therefore only apply to certain PBI themselves because of the nature of that particular PBI. Other than that...👍

The DoD applies to all individual PBI’s. If your DoD only apply to a certain PBI it’s not your DoD, it’s your acceptance criteria for that item. And yes, both helps your team in planning.

@@guusverweij934 That's not what you said in the video. I will watch it again to make sure that I didn't misunderstand you. But that's not what I heard in the video. Also consider how I was describing what I was describing... I believe you might have honed in on one aspect of it but missed another.

From the video I unnderstand that, DoD is generic, and AC is specific. PLI can only adhere to the product increment when it meets the DoD to deliver to production. And I personally think the word GENERIC and SPECIFIC are implicitly for "The DoD applies to all individual PBI’s". That's all my understanding.
