Being a fan is fine. Bullying people for not sharing your opinion is not fine. It’s that easy.

When the Seahawks went to the Super Bowl a lot of people here were annoyed that so many people were jumping on the bandwagon. But imagine how depressing it’d be if your team went to the Super Bowl and no one in the city was excited more than normal.

I grew up a habs fans, in the late 60s, esp 70s . So i benefited from my Hockey team winning often and regularly. I also liked other teams because i loved hockey. Tor cheered for too but much lesser degree( Salming was one of my fav players alltime) Ive always loved 1st rd of playoffs, whos ready for playoffs , so every series i usually have a fav , and watch as many gms as possible During a fun pool i had my habs plus Atlanta flames as my other team...when they did well i followed them too, moved to Cal i continued supportering, moved to Cal myself cheered them even more, becoming my fav team I had drifted from hockey a bit ie CBC firing Dave Hodges for correctly critizing leaving a playoff gm in progress for election coverage Cheered for Van with Bure ,tiger etc and their magical run....cheered flames over Van in 89 of course, but even though it was a rough and tough series, i gained respect ( from disdain) even from dman Snepts. And later i loved the play of Naslund....moved to BC , slowly switched to Van over Cgy. You can call me a bandwagon for all that but ive always been a fan of hockey......always watch playoffs to the end Everybody is different in their approach to fandom

I think there’s varying degrees of being a fan without being a “fanatic”. It depends on the individual. Everyone enjoys different things for different reasons, and everyone thinks and reacts in different ways, so I think it’s relatively easy to cut up the term “fan” to differentintiste between the super-casuals, regular, and passionate fans, and even more categories if you really wanted to go all out. For example I enjoy doing the wave in the crowd, but try not to be delusional when it comes to opinions of my teams. Fanaticism is IMO the line where you begin to lose touch with reality. Thanks for the video, interesting topic!

Eh, I agree with everything in this vid. However, bandwagoners I think, when used in it's purest sense refers to individuals that you mentioned in the following sentiment in your video. It's those "emotional rollercoaster" fans who are quick to shout fire at every opportunity. Kind of like an emotional parasite because they are so quick to hop off when the wheel starts squeaking. It isn't the team they are a fan of. It's the success.

It's really interesting about complaints of cheating. Many years ago I was a semi professional gamer and it's so common for people who lose to just blame the other party of cheating. They often didn't make it very far. It's the people who go "how is this person beating me and what can I do to improve and prevent that from happening?", those are the guys you want to look out for.

Another factor of bandwagon, is as I've gotten older, if I get frustrated watching some sports and my favorite team is just so frustrating, before I would cheer all season long , now I tune out , or tune in if the are playing well or in a playoff run, or in playoffs....if it's so aggravating to watch or disappointment is too great...I will sometimes do something else( usually other sports other than hockey-fav sport)

Honestly I find that someone who is fanatic most often is only that way when the team is winning which means they are bandwagon jumpers and are not true fans at all. A true fan will like a team regardless. They will get disappointed at times but they will still be dedicated to that team and not just there when they’re good.

Great thing about being a fan vs a fanatic is the interaction with other fan bases. I don't want to trash a team or their fans because it's not my team I like to see/hear who their fav player or why they love their team. Plus if talking about the sport.... I hate,well your team/this team, sucks rather than talk realistic about the sport the game Fun joshing is okay But that's why I love ❤️ this channel, I love talking hockey I love ❤️ the space Shannon has created, I love e the fans who respect that and add to the discussion

I've always defined the idea of a "bandwagon fan" differently. I've viewed them as people who don't pay attention to the local team most of the year unless they make the playoffs. They talk about how great their team is, but don't know the names of most of the players and have a weak grasp on the rules of the game. Basically, I view them as "sports fans" of the city they live in, and they only pay attention to a team if they're winning.

So let me see if I understand the semantics here. I am a fan if I watch the occasional game and root for a specific team. I am an avid fan if I watch every game and attend 20 or so home games in person every season, while wearing one of my team jerseys and hats. If however I paint my face blue and orange, while wearing my jersey and hat and carrying my Springfield deer hunting rifle in a duffel bag, which I then use to pick off a few referees and the odd person wearing another team's jersey....well that qualifies me as a fanatic! Will there be a test at the end of the season?
@jonmendelson1104
@jonmendelson1104 6 ай бұрын
I think there's are different types of bandwagon fans. When watching a game it's generally more exciting when you pick a side you want to win. I'll cheer for teams based on having a former player from my favorite team or having some draft implications (as a Sharks fan I'm pulling for the Devils to make the ECF this year so the Sharks can get a first round pick). If I'm watching a game between Boston and the Islanders, it would be weird for me to start yelling "Go Sharks!" Yes, I do say something along the lines of, "I'm going to hop on the Stars bandwagon to see Pokey get a cup" but what I consider a true bandwagon fan worthy of dislike is the type that will drop their team and start cheering for the team that won the cup every year, particularly if they treat it as though they've always been a fan of the new team. Someone who was a Lightning fan for a couple years, then became an Avs fan, and now is a FV fan. It's worse if the teams are potentially rivals...had a buddy who was a Lakers fan and moved over to the Warriors when they started winning.

I had a superstition where towards the end of the game I gotta watch the clock so that I can see any variation of the numbers in pi (ie 3.14). If I do, my team will hang on the the win. Noooo, hockey fans aren't superstitious 😉

I have a superstition where near the end of the game if my team was nursing a lead late in the game and I have to pee, if I can hold on to my pee the team will hold onto their lead.

As fans of sports, “wrasslin”, most forms of entertainment, even video games, a part of me believes, there has to be an acceptance, or ridiculousness. Being a fan, by nature, is kind of ridiculous. The emotional outburst as to how people react to things outside of one’s control, is, ridiculous. Yet, why is it so fun?

As a Leafs fan the refs comment gets to me. l try to follow the reddit feed during games, but sometimes I have to leave if the penalties "aren't going Toronto's way." The feed can get really toxic. EDIT: in regards to being a bandwagon fan, when the Leafs lose in the playoffs I find another Canadian team or an underdog to cheer for. To me it's just more fun to watch a team you're cheering for.

As an Oilers fan I have to stay away from Reddit game day chats because my lord does it get toxic in there quickly and then it turns into personal attacks being thrown around. And then if/ when we lose it’s so many guys almost crying about how the Oilers losing is affecting their mental health which is a bit sad.

Good fans or good fanatics, will be able to call out their own players Good example was Cook from the Canucks, fans fanatics like his play, would justify straddling the line on his hits As it got worse Good fanatics fans would say he should be suspended because that's a bad hit, occasionally a fanatic would say hmm OK After awhile a majority of fan s Canucks said his game is bad for hockey, till he should be suspended longer

you should make a video about different fanbases and how they act. leafs fans dont act like habs fans.the fans out west dont act like the fans out east. its ok,you can say it.i cant imagine going to a concert out west ,were the fans sit on their hands,or a hockey game where somefans dont partake in a wave etc. in the east someone would say something to you aboot sitting during a wave.not in toronto,but a boston? or philly? fans would take that as an insult.or boofalo,where they wouldnt hesitate to spit on you if you wore another jersey.that was something i found unexpected.something my friend adrian wished he knew before we went to a bills game lol. fans are not the same,everywhere. to pigenhole us into two groups? yea nope.more than just two imo.need a slot for me to fit in.wouldnt like being a part of either group imo.dont think i am either :P so there has to be more than two.imo

Band wagon fans ( remember there are sports fans who support periannel bad sports teams, so being a sports fan of that particular sport , you tend to have fall back teams ie because u can like more than just your team or a fan of a player or two....sometimes your team misses the playoffs a lot during a time period, so u want to cheer on a winning team while following your team & sport. Or during playoffs ( football nfl) for me because I've been a Minnesota Vikings fan since day 1 , early 70s, so u usually had a team you liked more than others,and for me it varied over the years due to players, style of play, exciting, as players retire on those secondary teams I might become a band wagon follower of another team I like

Everybody is wrong except me! But seriously, finding a forum doing a discussion during a game I couldn't watch used to be somewhat ok. But now you can't tell if there's been a shooting or something, it's hyperbole in all directions. And real quick: On cheating, Houston cheated. They should have been thrown out of the league for 10 years. There are a lot of games that go convenient directions and it makes you think that the cozy relationship with betting is making some curious decisions in something like football when there are SO many ref interventions. In hockey, we just know that they cheat to give Pittsburgh and Chicago good picks. I KID I KID. sorta. :-P
