Tiktok Daily so later in the pod, Joe went into a mini rant when they were discussing Kanye/Mr Walt Disney’s Christian Tok plan and how other countries have so much power over American media. He then related to the Drake and Wayne conversation on how people who aren’t like “us” have so many privileges in our culture. Basically, he was saying because Drake is Jewish, Universal will bend over backwards to protect him

@babajohn100 Don't be dumb Drake was earning a teachers salary before he was even 18 from acting. By the time he got signed to wayne he'd already accumulated close to 100k. Most rappers are completely broke starting out but Drake was already leasing maybachs, and paying 10k for artists features. The dude had an enormous advantage from having a shit load of clean money for someone 20 years old.

1. Wayne has had bad contracts and business dealings with parties that executives probably wouldn’t want to get involved with. 2. Wayne’s prime years (in terms of output) came right before the social media/streaming era really started to take off. 3. Drake has a cleaner image and more powerful connections (Jewish?). He’s safer and more versatile for corporations to support 4. Wayne’s personal health problems and Drake’s career trajectory made it easier for Universal to make their decision on who to prioritize.

Rory definitely has a point. It's likely Drake learned how *not* to navigate through Wayne's situation. The former isn't linked to Birdman like the latter, so that could explain the differences in trajectory. I *can* see where Joe was heading, though. There are plenty of factors to consider before jumping straight to colorism (Drake being Jewish probably helped him though, as sterotypical as it sounds) imo. Drake and Wayne came up under different circumstances and maintained different brands- and marketability, by extension.
@lionel8554
@lionel8554 3 жыл бұрын
Insightful thought bro. I feel where you’re coming from. So you think Drake being part Jewish gives him doors and opportunities Wayne didn’t have? The epitome of Hip Hop is to be from the hood and talk about that life and be about that life. Think of 50 cent for example he became fifty because of his lack of privilege. Why is it that Drake somehow got passes in the industry that Wayne wouldn’t or couldn’t if Nothing else but the fact that Drake avoided certain pitfalls that Wayne had to suffer?
@ctredez2047
@ctredez2047 3 жыл бұрын
@@lionel8554 It's hard for me to confidently say his opportunities are *solely* because of his Jewish background, because a factor that's just as significant is the fact that Drake came up in the acting industry. He probably had some foundation of management and industry experience before he was seriously invested in the game. Whereas Lil Wayne, while he came up under an iconic label, may not have had that same type of network; at least not at a similar stage in his career compared to Drake, you know what I mean? There's mad factors in the differences in their careers though, forsake. A legitimate deep-dive comparison would require a lot of nuance.
