I was invited by the daughter of Vietnam's foreign minister to visit a new traditionally-built house in HCMC. They also use the same techniques, just slightly different architecture style (mainly due to weather). Sinosphere is real.

That’s so cool! What an interesting experience!! Funny side story: My partner was commenting how a lot of architecture in certain parts of Seoul were indistinguishable from what he’d seen in Vietnam!

of cause mostly are the same, but the fact is your ancestors came to China to learn this wood joint technic and bring to your country (or our artisans went to Korea&Japan to taught you about this), but you guys never explain to the world, and someone even keep telling others this technic created by you? That's hilarious and evil.

I believe it is common knowledge that pretty much all information in Japan and Korea came from China first... they relied on China for centuries :-)

I wonder if the similarities have to do with a homogenizing of techniques. I've seen people make the older traditional Japanese, Chinese and Korean joints and they are much more complex than what we use. However, they are quite difficult to make compared to a standard dovetail or mortise and tenon.
