I feel like once you get past $2000, it is more worth your money to purchase an electric moped or motorcycle. You can get a really nice electric motorcycle that is highway capable and with good range for $5-$6k.

Or you can get a used gas motorcycle for $3k-7k that can travel highway speeds up to 75-120mph and get long, 90+ miles of range per tank (which you fill for just $10 in 5 minutes) I would only consider an electric scooter as a replacement for bicycle or pedestrian routes, NOT highway cruising at 50+ mph 😂

Those not familiar should be informed: solid tires, though requiring less maintenance than pneumatic, are slippery on painted surfaces (like bike lanes) slicker than snot on a wet surface, and have zero traction on wet painted surfaces. Potentially extremely dangerous. With over 7,000 scooter miles and a collection that spans all 4 classes, I can say the ONLY accidents I've ever had were unprovoked wipeouts where the solid rear tire (on a small commuter scooter) just slid out from under me on wet surfaces. Only buy these for desert conditions, or do not ever use during or after rain. Even pneumatics are sketchy on wet surfaces, but solid takes danger to a whole other level. They say a dull knife is far more dangerous than a sharp one, and this is a case of that. The higher performing models with better disc brakes, pneumatic tires, good suspension are inherently safer because they do everything better, including keeping you safe. Yes, split rims facilitate tire repairs, and adding Armor-Dilloz, plus proper inflation, does prevent most flats. There is no free lunch, and lower maintenance of solid tires comes with a hidden cost. Buyer beware.

@everyday tenor That makes sense. The most I’ve ridden on a escooter is maybe 19 but I felt the need to go faster but maybe I’m underestimating how fast 34 and 50mph actually is
@Laenthal
@Laenthal 2 жыл бұрын
This only applies to maintaining top speeds. Don't do MotoGP tilts on wet surfaces (or rather, don't do them at all), drive responsibly and be at your work/school on time _EVERY_ time, that is the key. Reliability is everything, sacrificing everything else especially "recreational" speeds and (if no suspension) comforts. It only takes getting late and tired of carrying your ride all the way to the destination once, to forever drop even the slightiest thought at inflatables. Seriously - fck em.

Truth be told I love my Vsett 10+, it’s a scooter that makes riding a breeze. Any dual motor scooter makes hills seem like a joke. I think you also missed an important bit of information on the voltage and amp hour. 36v and 48v are great for commuters. 52v is the sweet spot for light mid-powered scooter. 60v can give you a rush like no other and 72v and 84v are for those who loves high speed. 96v or bigger and your neck may never recover from the torque.

I had a Macwheel regular for two years. It was good to start on and I use my scooter just for fun. I weigh about 205 lbs and I would go up steep hills around 10 mph which was pretty good. Oh and removing the tires on the entry level scooters is absolute insanity. Would not recommend. I finally just upgraded and ordered a Vsett 10+. I can't wait to try it when it gets here. I wanted something with more power as there are some hills in my neighborhood and potholes as well. The price is a little high but it looks pretty nice. The biggest thing I like is the support for it. Looks like there's a lot of parts and informational videos. The tire changes look easy as well.

@Anto Holly It really depends on location. Our downtown area has a bunch of scooter rentals and I've seen people riding those get ticketed for doing stupid crap. If you're riding "normally" then you're probably fine for the most parts, but there are strange laws in different areas that you have to look out for. Like here, scooters cannot use pedestrian crossing lanes to cross lights, they have to behave like vehicles and use turn lights for example. So if a cop sees you crossing the road using pedestrian crossing, they can ticket you for that. Then there are other things such as 50mph scooters, wearing full motorcycle gear can't be using bicycle lanes, but people still do it and they get pulled over.

I've been looking for a couple of years, I wanted something with decent speed, torque and water resistant. Ultimately I ended up getting the e-twow gt se, I know it doesn't have an IP rating, bit I can add silicone and the power to weight ratio was too good to ignore for roaming around the city and going to work. I was thinking ninebot for the IP rating, but it's too heavy and slow for my liking.

I've got a few scooters now, 2 Ninebox max scooters, a 2020 Emove cruiser and now a zero 10x. The Ninebot max is a great beginner scooter and I see why its so popular. Just dont expect any insane speeds or acceleration with it lol. I've put just over 1,000 miles on the Ninebot and its held up solid, only issue was recently I needed to replace the folding mechanism but since its an insanely popular scooter, parts are available everywhere for it so thats nice. The emove cruiser has by far been my favorite so far. The speed is perfect, gives enough thrill and the acceleration is pretty decent. But the range is a huge plus. I have put over 2,000 miles on mine and the range still gets me 35 - 40 miles easy (I've never done more than this because by this point you get tired of standing lol) with still battery remaining. Plus the waterproof rating on it has come in handy many times. I really do recommend the emove cruiser its a sweet scooter! And now the zero 10x. The power is just insane! Insane how much of a difference going from single motor to dual motor makes. The acceleration is damn insane on it, and it also cruises up hills with no issues at all. But you can tell the battery does last as much as the cruiser does, getting me about 28 miles before going dead. Thats still really good and more than I need, plus you get more if you stick in single motor mode so I'd say battery does fine. But either way the fun you have with the speed on it makes up for the battery any day.

I didn't have the budget for a $1k scooter a while back, but I ended up finding a used Lunar Scooter LS1200 for $280 in a poorly state about 3 years ago. Back then, I simply needed something for short trips while I was rebuilding my $550 towyard-recovered 2.4L '01 Xterra. I still have the X and it's my winter wheels/ long range travel, but I rarely need to drive it in town anymore. I've upgraded the batteries, the handlebars, the wheel sprocket and the chain, and I can get to 30mph and climb hills with ease (I'm 6'1" and 165lbs). It's an absolute beast on gravel bike paths, and I daily it to work as well (11.6 mile round trip). I can even set a 24 pack of Mountain Dew on the deck and still go full-speed uphill like it was nothing. In a few more months I will be upgrading the entire platform to 48v and swapping the existing 36v components to a Razor E300 frame I got for $15 from a thrift store. I also have an e-bike project in the works as well; that one I'm planning to make into a 72V 2000+W sleeper while trying to keep the stock 36V 350W unassuming look. That will be my first ever brushless hub motor build. The donor is also a GY6 clone (Sunbird) I got for $200, so it's going to look like an electric version of a 50cc GY6, but have a pedal drive so it's considered an e-bike legally, and if I "stage" the controller I can make it 750W compliant for road use or unlimited for off road use. I just think it's funny that it's going to be faster as an electric drive than any of the bored-out 100-105cc GY6 motors I've ever built for gasoline. Best of all it's a hyperscooter's performance for the cost of your average dual-motor urban commuter once you itemize everything. It's more fun to tinker than buy something off the shelf anyway. I like going fast without it costing too much.

The complaint about hills with budget scooters is valid, but if you kick them forward helping the motor out, then you can climb steep hills essentially as easily as a bicycle. My main complaint about budget scooters is that they are as difficult to maintain as more expensive ones (as you mention). The power and range are often lacking, but portability is a huge plus that makes them enticing regardless.

Some budget scooter can go pretty far these days (ninebot max can do 45km, NIU KQi2 pro can do 26km and NIU KQi3 pro can do about 35km) if you don't mind that they aren't ''sport'' scooters. They both also go around 25-30km/h which is actually a little too fast for city use if you're going to use the bike lane (in Canada at least you can't go in the middle of the street with scooters you have to ride with bike and or skateboards and those lanes are usually 20km/h maximum).

Agreed. My first scooter was a “hurdle motorgear “. Simple 350 watt. Easy to carry at 45 pounds and fits into tight spaces when folded. Great commuter scooter. Horrible on hills (10-11mph depending on the grade). Still 3x walking speed. I was told I would get bored and want more speed, more power and more features. They were so right. I bought a Dualtron City which was released in 2022. It has 15 inch tires, a longer wheel base, removable battery and top speed is about 70 kph. It's my first scooter. I think people's choice of scooter depends on their situation. The City isn't a commuter scooter that you can fit in your trunk or carry up stairs, and it weighs about 90 lb. It's not for everyone. But it works for me because I'm a heavier rider who lives in an area with hills and bad roads. It eats hills and potholes for breakfast. I ride mainly for recreation and there are a lot of bike trails nearby. Because of the wheel size it's pretty good for off roading as well. More people seem to be buying the City now, even as a first scooter, because it's very safe and comfortable to ride. It will be interesting to see if other manufacturers make a similar larger wheeled model in the future.

how are you finding it so far? In market for an electric scooter and its on my list of possibilities. Pros? Cons?
@TheApeWonder
@TheApeWonder Жыл бұрын
@@francoismurrell4604 I like it! It got more than enough speed, depending on your weight. Dual motors is great if you have lots of hills or the occasional climb. Got a sturdy and quality build which can easily be put in a trunk (due to the great folding system). The only negative I’d say is its weight. But more weight means more stability when riding and it’s manageable. It’s mostly if you’re lifting it onboard some commuter train or such I guess. Personally I don’t think I’ll buy a heavier scooter in the future, nor faster. So with these scooters things are quite relative - your weight which can possibly slow down speed (but dual motors helps a lot), scooter weight if lifting it often, it’s speed is more than enough for me (though I can maybe see going faster on a perfectly flat and long road but it’s also risky standing up in those speeds). Solid tires are great to ignore glass but on a non asphalt road, like cobble stones, is a nightmare riding. Have had no water issues going through puddles. Oh and I’m quite strong, doing workouts regularly, but scooter still feels too heavy/bulky if needing to carrying it.

Grat info! I'm looking to move to Puero Vallarta in Mexico and have an electric scooter be my primary mode of transportation. I don't care that much about speed or range, as long as it goes faster than 25mph and farther than 20 miles it's good; the biggest challenge is a lot of relatively steep inclines and cobblestone roads. What would you recommend?

what tires do you recommend with the EMOVE Cruiser scooter.. I read solid tires make rain slippery.. But I from what you said about filled tires tend to get flats easier or are a pain to work with.. So I have no clue which tires would work best with that scooter that would be easy dealing with maintenance wise safety wise and performance wise.

I bought a razor e3 prime to help me commute to my work(only about a mile) It’s great but I live in a crazy hilly area and it crushes my battery I have to charge it after every use. I’d love to stick with a scooter but I’m in between that and a moped for the price I’m going to pay to upgrade. Any thoughts or advice

In France, we can't even legally ride a E-scooter that exceed 25 km/h (~15 mph), and the first category is the most common one. I own a Xiaomi Pro2 (~650$), and it's really great ! Plus the advertised range of this scooter (45 km / 28 miles) is actually true, I can even reach 50 km.

Question: I have a emove touring and I started looking at the emove cruiser, now I’m looking at the mantis 8 lol. Which one should I save up for? If mantis, should I get it from VORO or FLUID? (Both companies have shops in Brooklyn btw)

If you want the extra range then get the cruiser. If you want dual motors and a bit more portability then go Mantis 8. Buy from Voro. Fluid has treated me poorly in the past. This Mantis 8 is only available for KaaboUSA however. The Mantis pro is the version that Voro carries

So I am looking for alternative ways of getting around to go from home to college. I'll 15-20 mins drive outside of my Town and some of the hills are between 20-30 degrees of an incline. It also rains a decent amount where I live. What would be good for my situation ?

Good video. I recently got curious about E-scooters as I have zero knowledge. (I have a bit of a story). I'm a mountain biker and watch mountain bike videos on KZfaq. I left a comment on one and I got a reply from the KZfaqr to text him as I won a prize. I was figuring it would be a bike accessory or a tool or something like that. He says won a Sur Ron elec. motorcycle. WOW, I told him I live in a townhouse without a garage and don't have a pickup truck to transport it or know where to ride it. So he offers me a scooter instead. It turns out to be a $4800 Weped FF. I didn't know what it was at first. So I looked Weped up and found it was the FF model. It's out of stock too, you can't even buy it right now. I also found out it goes 60 mph, has stiff short travel suspension and it really does not like to scoot around at 15-20 mph on sidewalks or neighborhood streets. It's for racing and thrill seekers. Hey, I'm 67. I'm not looking to kill myself on that beast. Not exactly for someone that has never been on a scooter. Plus I would have to get myself body armor and a motorcycle helmet for safety. Because that's what I saw people wearing on these scooters and they were just blasting down an open stretch of highway. They were hitting 75 mph too! So, I had to turn down the offer. I never thought I would ever turn down such an expensive, awesome prize. Plus it would also take away time from my mountain biking.
