I thought about a Tesla, but then I bought a zippy dual motor scooter and it cut my commute to 9 minutes and I always have the best parking at work. It’s fun as heck, I actually spend time going home exploring the city vs stressing at all the lights. I refuse to drive unless it’s long distance or the family is coming with me

My tip is to keep both hands on the handle bars at all times. It's not like a bike where you can go one or no handed. It makes hand signaling impossible, but until you are very comfortable on your scooter, I would recommend keeping both hands on the handle bars.

I suggest wearing some gloves, falling at 30mph will destroy your hands

I thought leaning forward to accelerate and back to decelerate came naturally to me, I felt instantly that was what I needed to do after a few rides. I would also recommend against riding on uneven surfaces like you could with bicycles that have bigger wheels. I learned that the hard way.

These are some great suggestions. I think proper setup is probably the most important thing you said and I love the way you said it. Most issues I see people run into from broken parts, to even crashes are the result of improper setup and/or maintenance. Having the throttle and brakes in the wrong place leads to slower reactions on stops and poor control. Loose bolts lead to increased wear on hardware which weakens them and causes parts to break. 15 Minutes of extra time in setup and another 15 minutes of maintenance every 100 miles of riding will save a ton on scooter repair and medical bills. prolly mentioned before, but as ive seen many of vids now: Waterproofing your scooter is the key too if you want to ride in rain or wet conditions. All it takes is few sealants and a piece of rubber for mudguards/shocks if you can cover them too. Most important is to seal every hole from deck to outside where are holes. On that theres more than enough videos too and it costs about 10-15euro for good stuff :)

2:35 never put ur break levers like that if u need to break at high speeda u will crouch and lean back and in that position u set up the break levers u cannot press them and if ur standing up while emergency breaking at high speeds u will very likely go over the handlebars

Coming from bicycles and motorcycles, the hardest thing to do is compromise on using the bars to anchor. You are occasionally obligated to do so on the scooter. On a motorcycle especially, this is a no-no. The bars are for control only, not holding on. Anchoring with the bars creates bad steering inputs. The paradox being the lighter and faster the cycle is the lighter and more sensitive it is to steering inputs and the more susceptible to bad inputs. The scooter makes you anchor with the bars at times because their is no chassis to grab with your knees/thighs to anchor as you would on a motorcycle. While also being very light and extremely fast steering. It is a challenge to learn to anchor and control steering input. You do all you possibly can with your stance and body position, but you can't do 100% with stance. You gotta use the bars a bit. Especially on a super powerful scooter. It's hella fun, though!

Care is needed when riding over wet leaves on mud or concrete not just when braking but in normal riding, as the back wheel spin can result in a total sideways wipeout or if you lucky like me I was able to shift weight drastically and regain stability. It really came out of nowhere, one second I was riding casually upright, the next I was completely sideways.

when he said to practice in your neighborhood before big city roads..lol I live in Brooklyn, NYC everywhere is the big city road. The learning curve on riding in the street in NYC is simple, if you didn't die, you pass. repeat until you're a road demon lol

The weight distribution part kind of reminds me of lessons my instructor would tell me when I was running a horse like shifting your weight forward and backwards in the saddle to help and counteract where the horses riding to stay stable and make it easier on the animal

Can’t wait to get it but I’m definitely gonna take it easy for the first little while considering it’s an “expert” level scooter. Out of the box: check the screws, adjust the handlebars, check TIRE PRESSURE. On mine the backtire was properly inflated, the front tire wasn't and you'll probably want a tire gauge with a long nose the back tire valve is sometimes kinda tough to access without a long nose gauge. If you've ridden a motorcycle before you're familiar with the physics. Don't be stupid, wear jeans n long sleeve shirt til you know your machine road rash at 15 mph will make you hate the world. A helmet isn't a bad idea either, any physics majors wanna tell people how fast you're really moving when the speedometer says 10 mph?? Take it on hard pack dirt first, hurts less than concrete if you fall. Don't fear falling just learn what to do when you lose it.

I'm a complete small vehicle virgin. I've always hated biking, but I have most of my experience there. I recently got a Ninebot Max because I loved the big heavy Lime scooters all around town. they feel safe and confortable, but the Ninebot kicks a lot harder, feels very light, and leaning into everything scares the hell out of me. I admit, this is only my second commute on it as of writing this, and I'm commuting during the winter season so there's some sketchy patches I have to avoid, but I'm so nervous i'm going to wreck on it because the brakes want to throw me forward off it (leaning back is spookier than I expected!) and I can't comfortably grab the brake in time because it's directly forward of the handle. this video helped a lot, I think I'll try adjusting the brake down so it's not as hard to reach for. We'll see.

Hi, two things about your set up ideas. Your control clamp screws should be snug enough the controls not to move easily but not so tight the controls cant rotate out of the way when an impact happens and they will. I see broken controls often at work and its because people think they clamps need to be so tight they cant rotate on the bar. We figured this out in bike shops long ago. Save yourself the cost of replacing broken controls and possibly getting stranded because of a mishap thst is easily avoided. As for the angle of your brake levers they sould be set so its a straight line from your finger tips through ypur finger joints, wrist and fore arms. If you put your levers as low as you did your wrists are too bent forward and cause them to roll over under hard braking going over bumps or manouvering. This can pitch you forward over the bars and cause a crash. If your levers are too high/flat and yoyr writs are bent so the heel of your hand is below the bar and your fingers are above you hands will go numb. The bend in your wrist cuts off the circulation to your hands. If you keep the ergo grips that come on scooters. You should only keep them if they are clamp ons, slip ons will always rotate and always be a potential cause of a loss of control. Your clamp on ergo grips should always positioned for that straight line through your fingers wrist and forearm. Ergo grips arent as helpful as you think and you should try a pair of good round clamp on grips available at any bike shop.

this video was really well made. i made the mistake of just charging it up and then going for the ride as i lost my vent cap on the 2nd ride when testing it out with 2nd gear. also with the mount of the acceleration, i didnt know it was unnatural and incorrect. i'm just way too cautious with everything D:

This video came out 2.5 weeks after I went over my handle bars and chipped 2 teeth and broke my arm on my Q1 Hummer, all to avoid hitting a Jetta that pulled out in front of me lol. Great tips though!

I do this with my bikes. But this information needs to be shared everywhere.

Another point you could have mentioned is driving on diffrent terrains. Some roads may be more bumpy or because of landslides, more slippery. It's very easy to forget the forces when you are driving such a small vehicle!

Another tip I found useful is for people who live where you drive on the right hand side, keep your right foot forward. Reasoning is if somebody throws their parked car door open you'll only hit the door with your shoulder vs leaving your chest open as you try to swerve and it's also easier balance-wise for swerving out of the way. Easiest way to remember is whatever side parked cars are relative to you, that's the foot you put forward.

Hey wow! Super helpful video. I ALWAYS profess the importance of loctite when first setting up a scooter on my channel. Screws love to rattle loose on every scooter, eventually.

I have just bought my first scooter (a Go-Trax Ultra) and rode it for the first time yesterday. I had never ridden a scooter before. I am normally a bicyclist so I know a few things about leaning and braking. First off, I rode it in our building parking garage, so no traffic there to worry about. The only problem I had was the unexpected surge of power at start-off. A lesser and more gradual power surge would have been easier for a beginner. I am still leery about starting. The tips concerning the stance, turning and braking noted in the video were good. There were also some good suggestions in the notes below.

Look up your P-settings and adjust the parameters to your preferences. Also, I discovered my Joyor X5S has a speed limiter I could disable by cutting a single wire. Like magic my top speed increased from 16 to 21 mph.

I am new at riding scooters, but I am very mechanically inclined, and unfortunately, manufacturers don't always design their products to withstand rider weight and vibration. Be prepared to make changes. I needed to add split lockwashers where there were none, replace nylon locknuts with regular nuts and split washers, replace and modify seat hardware. The list goes on. It is not uncommon to see a lot of scooters waiting to be repaired in a desler's shop, something that I would be slightly embarrassed about. But that's were the money is if you're a dealer.

I've been using a not so intuitive technique for making sharp turns: I lean in only with my body and I keep the scooter vertical for the tires to have the biggest possible ground contact, in my opinion having better grip and a lower chance of sliding out and falling over. If there's an argument against doing this, please tell me! Keep safe, and happy scooting!
