As someone who regularly hikes, even in some familiar places there are things you always take with you! 1) Navigation equipment 2) At least one other person 3) Enough provisions for at least one extra day 4) A weapon 5) Emergency equipment and communications 😞 Depression is a hellava monster. Far worse than any supernatural beast. Rest well Kenny.

Yup, I'm a born and raised virginian (so Appalachia is my area of choice to hike). I can approve of these rules, although I usually, admittedly, just go with my dog. Comms, emergency supplies, survival rations and a gun are always a must though. His girlfriend at the time has talked about it and thinks he committed suicide, he had been struggling with depression and said he mentioned considering suicide. Either way, hope he's resting in peace.

I'm glad you mentioned infrasound. There are instances where it is generated naturally causing fear and sometimes hallucinations.
@felicitybywater8012
@felicitybywater8012 2 жыл бұрын
Yep. And in a suicidal person, the dread and/ or hallucinations infrasound can cause could very easily make him decide it was time to do it. Severe depression itself can cause what might be called hallucinations, that is, you are so focussed on a particular image, you think you can literally see it. In this case, that image could likely be his father.

It is ironic that he believed navigational aids are for amateurs. As an experienced hiker (though not a professional, i.e., I don’t get paid to do it) I can tell you they are not. In fact, failing to use a map and compass or a GPS device is an amateur's mistake, and a very foolish one. It's like saying bike helmets are for amateurs. It doesn't matter how expert you are, you are still at risk. If you don't appreciate that, it indicates just how little you know about what your doing. Add to that the fact he would intentionally not take enough food or water as a personal challenge, and it no mystery that anyone who repeatedly plays Russian roulette ends up missing and presumed dead.

inkyguy i agree, i also find it humourous when telling a story about someone who goes missing in the woods/bush/dessert, the teller uses the disclaimer the the missing person was an expert or very experienced and thus could not have made a mistake or that an act of nature could not cause them to get lost/die/injured ,

@Bedtime_Stories Infrasound can even make people vomit, experience severe depression or have aweful headaches. They don't even have to be purposefully made. There was an elevator at Brown University called "The Elevator to Hell" famous for causing vomiting and migranes in people who rode it. The cause was a bent ventilation fan blade. It was THAT SIMPLE. When they replaced the fan blade the infamous elevator no longer sickened people who were riding on it.

Very sad , poor guy ! Depression is no joke especially when you're struggling to just live! Many fall victim to depression after being diagnosed with a chronic illness or injuries which just never heal, medications lead to more problems which require more meds , you lose your job your social life even your family begin to slip from your grasp providing you even had any , you lose the ability to provide for yourself let alone anyone else. This can happen to anyone at anytime. Some are just born battling depression , it's hereditary, sometimes a parent or sibling has taken there life leaving you forever hurt. As someone who is living with bipolar disorder i can relate with most plausable theory, and that is that he commided a suicide. I am having suicidal thoughts, sometimes for weeks on daily basis and it is really hard fighting them off. I've also having the idea of just taking my things and disappearing, not because i thought i want to harm my beloved ones, but because of despair and the idea of me helping them out by removing myself as the burden from their lives. I tried to kill myself. My friends reacted and saved my life. 3 months later, I saved someones else life by giving CPR in the middle of the street. I reached out for help. I have been diagnosed 2 years ago and my life transformed completely after the treatment started. There is help. There is always someone who cares about you and if you are struggling, do not lose hope, reach out. Somebody loves you and needs you.

I think he was bullshitting about the cave and just telling a story to interest people. From his girlfriend's comment it seems very likely that he committed suicide. So maybe somehow he wanted to communicate his deathwish without directly alarming anyone. The M-shaped cave might symbolize death/the afterlife. In his comment he said he ventured into every cave on his dangerous hikes and played with rattlesnakes. I think he intentionally put himself into danger, because he didn't cling to his life. Like "when I get back home alive then this is how it should be (for the moment)." His posts reads to me like "I've been everywhere I wanted to, seen everything there was for me to see. There's just one more place I have yet to visit". It struck me, that he wrote he couldn't enter, because he only had a knife with him. Next time he will bring his pistol so that he can enter. He might have been on a hike that time without having the Intention to commit suicide. Then he discovered a cave and immediately thought "This is it! That's the place I want to die in". But then he only had a knife and pondered killing himself with it. This would be painful and he might just slowly bleed to death and he got afraid. Or he didn't feel determined enough in the first place and though a fearless guy he still feared death - as the feelings he described suggest. He decided to come back with his gun and more determination. When he wrote "I didn't find it this time", I think it's not about the place, it's about his determination.

I wondered whether Lemi Kilmister was the only one, who understood what Kenny meant or if he was merely joking. I googled the user and found that his last activity was linking a movie: Heaven is for real. So I'm pretty sure he knew what Kenny was talking about (maybe being suicidal himself and thus "talking the same language"). Btw, there's one line from Kenny's comments, that - to my eyes - oozes symbolic meaning: "The M cave is the only cave I ever feared going inside. I really want to find it again"

I think he was just telling tales out of boredom or desire for attention, which go hand in hand with depression. I don't know why people go into such spooky places as those, especially alone. Haunted/abandoned buildings is one thing. But a mine or a CAVE for God's sake, you don't know where those things end. There are three reasons I'll never enter a mine or cave of any kind. 1. "The Descent" 2. The man that got stuck in the cave and died, his body is still there, I still think about that one often 3. Anyone could be in there

Sheryon Pilgrim 3 years ago I am the girlfriend that Kenny spoke of in the video. There are so many posts. I had no idea until a friend let me know. So many people are wondering what happened and guessing different things. You are heart felt about the sadness around what has happened with Kenny. He has not been found and I feel that he probably will not be found for many, many months, if ever. I want to share what I know and feel about what happened, so that you might bring some closure and understanding in your own lives. Kenny absolutely loved hiking in the desert. It was his very, very favorite thing to do. We hiked and camped together all over the Nevada desert.... sometimes 9 hours in a day. We found many abandoned mining towns, usually referred to as "ghost towns" by Nevada hikers. We explored many caves and mine shafts. We were always careful how we explored them, but Kenny was a bit more daring than I was. We wore snake guards, sun protected clothing, used walking sticks, brought enough water and food for the hiking hours and had extra water/food in the car. (He rarely drank all his water.) We took wonderful pictures of all sorts of things we saw... rusted cars, old falling down buildings, cemeteries, mines, wild animals, tarantulas, scorpions, trees, cactus and flowers. Our deserts are beautiful, if you have a love for deserts. They are not "spooky" scary but you do have to be careful of the terrain and of course bring enough water and food. We always were excited when we saw desert wild life, like the big horn sheep in the video. They are stunningly beautiful to see in person in our desert. We would stand quietly still to watch them as long as possible. I was so very excited to see the one he filmed in his video. I want you to know that I do not think Kenny had an accident. I believe he committed suicide. He battled depression for many years and would not take medication or see a doctor. He quit his job a little more than a year before he disappeared. He wanted to see if he could sell his inventions and do what he called "Cowboy Interior Design" for homes. He bought his first home five years ago and had an amazing ability of decorating in this style. He was not successful in getting a business going and was running out of money after a year of not working. He no longer wanted to work in a "job" for someone else and as his money decreased he became more and more depressed. He really did not look for another job. In early Oct, with seeing his depression increase, I said to him, "You aren't going to pull a Robin Williams on me are you"? This is when he opened up more about his depression and his thoughts much of his life about suicide. His father committed suicide when Kenny was in his early 20's. When I asked him the question he answered me with "If I decide to do it, you will be OK because you are good at the Law of Allowing." He asked me what I would think of him if he did it. He also said if he decided to do it "No one will ever find me." It would be easy to do something like this in our desert with the number of natural caves and mines. He could hike many miles in a day so there is no telling where or how far he could have hiked during his 3 day 2 night solo hike. When he did not call me after the 3rd day of being gone I called missing persons. The search for him was started within a couple days of my call. Over 30 search and rescue team members searched 3 different times on foot. One helicopter fly over was done and there was no trace of Kenny or any of his camping things. They found his car in the area I told them it would be. They did find his cell phone by the mine shaft in the video. The mine shaft was only about a 4 hour hike from his car. It is my feeling he left it behind so that he could not be tracked form the GPS in it. He also did not take his video camera with him on this solo hike. It was left in his home. So, he had no intention of filming anything. I share this with you for two reasons. First, so that you have more of an understanding who Kenny was and to bring some peace or understanding to the situation. Secondly, if any of you do decide to go out into our desert to look for him or the M Cave, be careful and bring enough water and food. Walking sticks are a good idea and not doing a solo hike. Bring a GPS and make sure that you have let family or friends know that you are heading out for the hike and where and when you will be returning. A search really can't be on a one day hike. You would be repeating much of the same hike....just getting up the mountain and then be left with not many hours in the day to do the search. You would need 2 or 3 days at a time and in the summer, or even late spring, this can not be done because of the heat of our desert. You would not be able to carry enough water. So, please, please be careful. I had many wonderful experience with Kenny and will always remember them and have a place of love in my heart for him and the wonderful things we did together. I am healing from my loss and look forward to new experiences with desert hiking, camping and taking beautiful pictures of our desert. Enjoy your adventures of life and thank you for the kind loving comments sent my way. Much Love, Sheryon :)

INFRASOUND: Would explain the feeling of vibration and the feeling of anxiety Kenny expressed when approaching the M Cave, and could be easily present within a deep reaching cave. But honestly from what I know about the case it`s very likely Kenny committed suicide and basically played a prank on everyone at the same time. I suspect the mine where his phone was found is his final resting place, and he simply went in further then the cameras checked. Edit: Should have listened literally 3 seconds further, good thing you mentioned Infrasound. Personally, I think it`s responsible for more alleged phenomena then people are aware of.
@felicitybywater8012
@felicitybywater8012 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Infrasound is so recently discovered that we know very little yet about the phenomena it can produce and the range of effects it can have on humans. Among the effects it's known to produce on humans are feelings of dread. That may have pushed him over the edge in his depressed state. But hiking without adequate provisions for survival is quite enough to have killed him on its own.

I'm a SAR volunteer. While Kenny Veach seems like he was good person, he made some very stupid choices which cost him his life. Hiking in such an unforgiving area without any navigational tools is a death wish plain and simple. People underestimate this, and often end up hurt or dead. The environment can be too hostile to even search properly. An excellent case in point was the Germany family who died in Death Valley a few years ago. They took a wrong turn, got stranded after getting stuck, and died. They were found years later only because of a very dedicated individual, and in the article he wrote he frequently discussed how even with the full support of of advanced equipment and helicopter drops it was too risky for him to search for very long. The thing to take away from Kenny's disappearance is respect these places, or it will cost you your life.

I think Kennys disappearance is less about the cave, but more about plausible explanations. Having worked in the desert I can tell you it is a harsh place which charges a high price to those even slightly unprepared. If in fact Kennys mind was not focussed for survival and preparedness and instead his thought process was elsewhere as stated by his girlfriend then the result is evident. Sometimes we as thinking analytic beings go for the most complicated when in fact the cause is often the obvious and the answer is right in front of us. We know Kenny travelled with minimal supplies in order to challenge himself against the chosen environment. This is has been documented even by Kenny himself on his channel. Mother Nature should not be challenged as she demands a high price for failure. Secondly there has been an underlying elephant in the room as shown by at least 2 YT channels surrounding Kennys financial liquidity leading to him wanting to disappear. This too is a plausible reason and lets be honest it has happened before and is a reason for someone wanting to start over. Though I must admit, I know many people who find the going tough financially but who choose to work through it and remain with their families. One commenter on Kennys channel told him to not pursue the M cave and this comment and mention of in my opinion has only thrown us off the obvious scent and causation. Instead I think the comment was an off the cuff remark made by someone whom having witnessed Kennys upload became concerned and warned him off. Simply put the commenter responded to the situation because of the interpretation as presented by Kenny himself. Every-time in Kennys case I return to a memory of working in the desert and it being 52c in the shade knowing that this heat without a supply of water would be like hell itself. A hell I would want find a way out of no matter what, especially knowing I had not cool life giving water but instead, a loaded hand gun.

Have you ever heard of thd lava bed caves? When i was a kid i grew up in oregon and as a teen a few friends and i would drive into california and mess around in the caves durring the off season. There were never any other peoplr around when we would go and if they were we would just see a car but never any people. My bf and my high school boyfriend liked to go into the more dangerous caves...i mainly stayed in the caves that had high ceilings and some sources of natural light and had clear paths..no mazes for me. My ex and my bf had no fear of the caves that were maze like and on many trips they mapped the maze like caves and were both familiar with where the exits would be. One trip i waited in the car reading while they went into a maze cave. About an hour later my boyfriend came walking back from a far distance and was upset when he made it back to the car. He said my bf was still somewhere in the cave. He put fresh batteries in his flash light and said what had happened in the cave was both of their lights went out at the same time aboit 30 minutes into the cave. He couldnt understand why because they changed their batteries upon entering. He said it was so dark and within minutes they got seperated and couldnt even hear each other talking. Long story short he went back into get her and couldnt find her. She eventually made it out and he did as well but both said the cave was changing to keep them trapped and she hadcrawled along the wall to make it out and coupdnt understand how they got seperated in the first place.

It sort of reminds me of what I heard about Doug Kenney who was an editor and founder of National Lampoon's Magazine and the screenwriter for Animal House and Caddy Shack. He died falling from a cliff in Hawaii, some quipped that Kenney was suffering from drug problems and other mental health issues accidentally fell looking for a place to jump. It's quite possible Veach did the same thing while hiking, he may have contemplated suicide but at the same time did things to make passing easier if he chose not to commit suicide.

I found out what happened to Kenny Veach via Akashic Records last night. I understand if you’d never believe me but I promise you this is the answer I was given. There are people that are referred to as “mole people” who live in caves. They are considered a “cryptid”. He found the entrance to one of their caves and that is why the cave entrance he saw looked like the letter “M”.
