Күн бұрын

In this passionate call to action, 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg explains why, in August 2018, she walked out of school and organized a strike to raise awareness of global warming, protesting outside the Swedish parliament and grabbing the world's attention. "The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have all the facts and solutions," Thunberg says. "All we have to do is to wake up and change."

I'm sorry to say that no amount of hope or human actions will stop the ongoing mini ice age. It's not because we have pushed ourselves beyond a point of no return. It's actually because we are going through a solar cycle called the "Grand Solar Minimum". There is nothing we can do to stop the effects our Sun has on our climate. Please do some research and discover the truth for yourself.

@@michaeloreilly657 Thank you, Michael, for taking the time to do the research. My concern is that the science we are expected to listen to may be designed to keep us in the dark. Most scientists/experts rely on grant money to fund their research projects and if they don't follow the party line they run the risk of not getting funded or worse, losing their jobs. I know exactly what Greta is saying, but we literally have no effect over the Sun's power on this earth. Humanity will need to stick together to survive but even that won't stop what's coming.

Plant trees 5. Adopt and endorse eco-friendly lifestyle 6. Live minimal, save water, save resources and minimize your waste 7. I don't know about everywhere but at least in Belgium she is mocked by all media. When the papers found out she has selective mutism everyone thought she was a freak. Comments were saying "at one point she didn't talk for a whole year, that's not normal" while all I could think was that this girl has selective mutism, barely talks, probably never in front of large audiences, but for this cause she is talking. She is talking in front of audiences and camera's and that's so impressive and it also shows how important this is to her. edit: for everyone saying she has narcissistic personality disorder: she is very idealistic and does not show much empathy, these are signs of narcissism. But these are also signs of autism, and the DSM-5 (basically a guideline for diagnosis) will tell you to first consider other psychological disorders and when none of those can explain the signs, only then you consider a personality disorder. She shows signs of autism, has an autism diagnosis so let's leave it at that.

However the emotional part, which governs our behavior, is not affected. Big Oil has known about global warming through hydrocarbon emissions for about 70 years. So long as they get richer they don't care. Politicians who depend on Big Oil for campaign donations won't do anything about this issue. (Trump just revoked the power of the state of California to cap auto emissions. Because California is such a huge part of the market, since the 1970s, the entire auto industry has built all cars slated for sale in America to Californian standards. By scrapping those standards Trump has basically changed it so all new cars in the US will pollute more. This is going in the OPPOSITE direction of what we need . . . .) So long as the politicians get re-elected they don't care. That means all of the GOP and all of the corporate Democrats. The world cannot move forward on this issue without the active participation of the US. We need to put more progressives in office . . . . GOTV!

Before listening, I could have said that ‘I am quite aware of the environmental changes and enduring chaos that has been around our civilization for as long as I can remember’, but I have never been this ashamed for the fact that I thought so. Maybe I was ignorantly a little posh about the fact that I actually cared, compared to my colleagues and families, even though I knew thoroughly that only caring was and will never be enough. After watching the speech I felt doubtful about all the superficial views that I had kept for the past few years of my entire life. I immensely relate to her refer that survival is as means of black and white. We should be desperate about our very status, not just merely understanding the current situation, for it depends on our lives and future generations. I felt the urge to take action immediately as I was encouraged to do so, but was soon depressed by the fact that I had nothing to change at hand. Even so, I promise myself to start from the very basic things such as consumption to transportation and many other requirements I could find from my every-day life.

The problem with people like you is that you pretend to be the only ones to care about the planet and you think that it entitles you to question other people's motives. Well, DC the reason why other people question climate change is because there is no scientific evidence that it is of a magnitude to be dangerous to mankind. And furthmore, the planet is actually getting greener due to CO2 fertilization. So, if you have researched climate change, tell me what the value of climate sensitivity is. Tell me what the meaning of the logarithmic response of global temperature to additional CO2 means. Tell me why the biomass of the earth is increasing. The problem is we can not Produce enough reliable electricity to power all homes businesses etc and electric cars. Nuclear but that has serious draw backs also. Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel which runs most power plants, so to power your electric vehicles you burn Natural gas to get that power. Solar and Wind farms help but to keep up with demand we would need 10 times as much as we have now plus we have to replace and maintain what is in place now. Fossil fuels are needed to produce all of this. Electricity is not a low cost item and to achieve any kind of sustainable level the cost would be so high most people would not be able to afford to heat their home. Fossil fuels is used for planting and harvesting crops, if that can be changed to electric equipment fine but food costs would be through the roof.

The carbon circle of CO2 and O2 had been balanced in the past, until we began to emit more CO2 than ever, which stays in the atmosphere and absorbs and emits radiant energy that should have been released back to space. Currently about 57% of human-emitted CO2 is removed by the biosphere and oceans. What about the rest? It adds up with time and reaches all time highest with every passing year. CO2 in the atmosphere goes up and down but it had never gone pass 300 ppm in the last 800,000 years; it passed 400 this decade. No one questions the important of CO2, in fact life on Earth can't live without CO2. However, too much CO2 and greenhouse gasses causes what called greenhouse effect, which can easily be reproduced in experiments. “50 years now yall been saying were gonna die cuz climate change wait global warming”. @Alt-Centrist Thinker You act as though this information was deliberated and initially delivered to you and to the world firstly by a child, as opposed to every notable scientist of the last 40 years. If you appreciate the scientific method like I do, you would have to understand that if you doubt most of the scientific results behind these studies there is almost nothing you would consider a scientifically proven concept, as the studies that brought us these initial results have been proven by time itself, as well as countless peer reviewed studies. If you don't believe the "hyperbolic" left or whatever it is that turns you away from this course of knowledge, I implore you to do your own research, give your own speeches and bring us closer to whatever great truth you have apparently have stumbled upon that has somehow yet eluded our greatest living minds, whom have been actively seeking the answers to the queries we now discuss (for decades). And I hope you have a good day while your at it.

@@AdamWeatherall "Every notable scientist of the last 40 years...". - Hyperbolic it seems but rather just plain false. You act like all scientists are in a club and easily quantifiable. Perhaps the scientists bought and paid for by government grants are in this club. But this club is hardly a majority especially over the past 40 years. Also, this a false consensus because you dismiss the scores of thousands of scientists who do not agree. Your club is not the whole of the "scientific world." Also consider where the grants come from- Governments are basically the employers of this false consensus. They need a emergency to be the excuse for more power. The scientists need to pay their bills. It's a transaction. "Evidence" for money. Equals fraud and corruption. Look at almost every peice of legislation that fights "climate change." They all take away freedom and give more and more power to a government. Coincidence? I don't think so!
@AdamWeatherall
@AdamWeatherall 5 жыл бұрын
@@YTTraveler777 I said no such thing implied by your words. Hyperbolic it seems perfectly defines your reaction here. You mention "thousands of scientist..." That refute the basic tenants of climate change...great, now name just one. Name one peer reviewed quantifiable piece of research published within the last forty years that can meet your false and obviously exaggerated claim. Your claim shows a basic missed understanding of how most scientific studies actually achieve funding, and also the scientific method in general, and blatantly so. You should research things before you type them into the infinity of the internet. You are a rare and curious mixture of both factual innacuracies but also bombastic confidence. Please retort with your "peer reviewed" study that supports your obnoxious claims. But if you can't perhaps, just reflect and research until you can present your argument in a logical way or until you can maintain a connection to logic. O, and have a good day.
