Occasionally a bot will attempt to throw a grenade or launch missiles, mess up, and end up killing itself and some of its teammates - if that’s not a Helldiver trait, I don’t know what is.

Considering bot fabricators can often be found either with cages next to them that still contain humans, or with straight up (opened) supply crates with human bodies - its very likely the fabricators process the bodies into new Automatons akin to the Cybermen of Dr Who. Which means the brain gets cut out and put into a metal body - though in their case an emotional inhibitor prevents them from remembering who they were before the transformation. Chances are the bots have something else in place to maintain loyalty

@@Torque2100 Pretty much, Cyborgs and Automatons may seem as victims at first, but once you dwell deeper, oh they deserve to be obliterated, in HD1 Cyborgs are said that they often capture citizens, troopers and helldivers and convert them into Cyborgs, so often that Helldivers who can't get out either commit suicide or mercy killed by their comrades. In a way in the Helldivers universe no one is saint or good, everyone is pretty evil to be fair.

It's been documented. Nobody is sure of the exact lyrics but it goes something like this. The majority of the 'bots in a formation will chant in time with every other foot-fall, except for the final line which is in time with all foot-falls. "Heart... steel. We... kill. Iron... will. On to war!" At least a few of the bots will have two versions of the full lyrics that are in time with every foot-fall, and they alternate or repeat each one in turn. I presume these bots are leading the march. "Cyberstan! Can't keep her down. Get back up. On to war!" "Hearts of steel. Can't keep us down. Get back up. On to war!" Cheerful stuff.

Why would it be a crime to know the history of Super Earths enemies? If you can't learn the backstory of your enemies, then it ought to be something that's so terrifying it needs to be kept hidden (maybe for citizens to stay calm), or something wanted to be kept a secret.

I mean .. It's what _I_ would do if _I_ was a rogue A.I. looking to source economically-viable material for semi-autonomous mobile platforms. Silicon is a lot harder to work with (energy and resource-wise) than repurposing brain-tissue on a mass-scale. Neurons can be coaxed and re-trained into whatever neural circuit you need them to be (We're already doing that with lab-grown mouse brain-cells .. we even got one to play 'Doom') and with humanity ever-expanding into the cosmos, there's no short of cerebellums or thalamus-tissue being delivered hot-and-fresh to your front-door. With one brain and some frugal use of the tissues within, you could pump out dozens .. even hundreds of 'bots' using the reconfigured grey-matter as the CPU. Just makes sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if this what Super Earth is doing with its subversives. It's clever, if morally repulsive. The military always have someone to fight, propaganda always has something to rally against, the citizens have something to fear - and some of the ones who aren't loyal to Super Earth might actually get what they want from this arrangement. All it costs is lives, and those are replaceable! (Please contact a Population Management Officer and fill out the required forms before reproducing.)

I doubt that is the case. The number of bot casualties numbers in the billions, whereas helldiver losses are much lower. Even assuming bots recovered every helldiver with brains intact, they'd still be running at a 100 to 1 deficit. Can't be the civilians either given that nearly all planets aside from maybe Cyberstan had a meager colonist population. Not enough to sustain such a horrific number of casualties the bots are enduring. Besides, the process of infusing a brain into a machine is slow, tedious, and prone to failure. Makes production of new troops a much bigger hassle. It's easier and cheaper for them to throw fully bot bodies piloted by a rudimentary AI.
