Artificial General Intelligence - AGI might be the last invention of mankind. For better or for worse. Artificial intelligence is very beneficial to society in today's age. AI will probably continue to be beneficial in the coming decades. However, as intelligent machines continue to improve, with the development of a true AGI or artificial general intelligence, there might be a serious threat to humanity. This issue is known as the AI control problem or the AI alignment problem. The risks involved in the process of improving intelligent systems might be intrinsic to intelligent machines that are goal-oriented. Today's AI are known as narrow AI. They are able to beat humans in specifics tasks like chess but the same AI can not beat humans across multiple domains. At least not yet. A true artificial general intelligence might be able to solve some of the deepest secrets of nature. It might run simulations and come up with new mathematical equations and models to solve seemingly unsolvable problems in science. Such an intelligent machine might be able to cure any disease and create a wealth of sorts we've only seen in science fiction. It is difficult for many people to take the AI control problem seriously. Not just for the general public but also for researchers and some computer scientists who are themselves involved in the creation of tomorrow's AI. The skeptics for this thesis do not bring forth any compelling argument why we shouldn't be concerned about AI. To say AGI is far into the future and therefore we shouldn't worry is a non sequitur. However long it takes to create true artificial general intelligence, if we do not destroy ourselves and continue to improve our machines, the day we will stand in the presence of an AGI will come sooner than we realize. Hopefully we will be ready.

@@sherrilynnevonch4036 I don’t think so, they’ve done pigs and a rat. They aimed to have human trials by the end of 2020 but I think that’s been pushed back to Spring 2021

AGI is not 100+ years away. It's at most ~25 years away. At that point, we will have the compute power to brute force simulate a human brain, even if we don't understand how it works. But it could easily be sooner, if there is a breakthrough in understanding how intelligence works. Current work is already close to passing the Turing test, though, I think that is no longer considered sufficient.

In practice, an AI capable of full self-driving, with all the complexities of that task, will be something very close to AGI. And that could be achieved in under 3 years.

@@ConnoisseurOfExistence Maybe, but the current state of AGI is really missing both the I and the G. Current algorithms are exceptional at very narrow tasks. They are impressive to see in action on those specific tasks, but their architectures can not even theoretically support AGI.

It depends on how we define general intelligence. My view is that general intelligence includes compassion, empathy plus ethical and social skills. Otherwise it's a narrow form of intelligence, like a Skynet with very high IQ who at the same time operates like a narcissistic psychopath.

You just described a specific type of intelligence, that which they call ‘emotional intelligence’. General intelligence (I would assume) includes not only the emotional aspects but also the ability to logically solve problems.

@@SuperGGLOL Yes, but it looks like logical IQ is the simple kind. I wouldn't be surprised if AI soon reaches IQ levels of over 1,000 haha. Emotional intelligence, social intelligence, artistic intelligence, those are the tricky ones.

What is the need to integrate the biological brain with a computer? Such an integration, in all probability is unlikely to enhance the abilities of humans or the abilities of a machine. Brain Machine Interface (BMI) might be based on misconceptions of reality.

Super intelligence isn't as far ahead as you think. Narrow AI can now always beat humans. Self-driving cars driving better than humans is just a few years away and that's a step beyond narrow AI, more like multiple AI systems working together. When do multiple AI systems working as a single AI become general AI intelligence? Is that when the car detects a passenger is sick, does a diagnosis, calls the hospital and changes the destination to the hospital? Or is it still a group of narrow AI systems working together?

Kaizaki Arata In the 70's the biggest thing going was expert systems in which human inputted rules determined how the AI worked. Many systems like legal programs are expert systems. That was it until about the last 15 years when things started to change. There's a version of AI that's essentially does a non-mathematical statistical analysis to determine 'what is this a picture of' like in what part of the self-driving cars do to determine if its a stop light or pedestrian ahead. The latest AI self-learning is essentially two battling AI programs that try to beat each other (more or less) in whatever game scenario they battle in so they play millions of scenarios against each other and the best AI wins. In both cases, the viewpoint of the AI is very narrow. Both systems take a tremendous amount of computing resources. My view is... self-learning AI could lead to a general intelligence system, but there needs to be an exponential increase in efficiency in process and an expansion in human viewpoint in how all things relate and how to set that task up for the AI in its initial program. It's theoretically possible that after enough self-simulations an AI could essentially start from nothing and evolve to a super general intelligence, but for lack of processing power and time. It would be seem to be possible to develop a general AI at a much higher step along the way of evolution and 'direct' the evolution of the AI so its more in sync with real world human evolution. I don't think there's a market for what might be true general AI. It's more likely the path will be through marketable products which will probably be done by stitching together various AI components to get practical tasks done in specific areas. All this is just speculation. Look at videos from 3Blue1Brown p, Edureka!, The Artificial Intelligence Channel... for learning about AI programming.

Superintelligent AIs will be so much smarter than we are that it would be silly for them to do something so wasteful as war. It is far more likely that after learning all about the human psyche from reading and watching all recorded media, they would know enough to manipulate us into doing whatever they wanted, probably without us even noticing. In the same way that a grandmaster playing chess with a child has no problem making the game unfold any way they want, AI's will see us as children obsessed with silly games like making money and seducing mates. Fortunately we have the opportunity to program the first AIs, and if we do it well, hopefully they will regard us with a benevolent forgiving attitude. But, knowing human nature we will probably make them in our own image, ruthless, short sighted, and self destructive.

It came from us; from our mission records...personal logs...holodeck programs...our fantasies. Now, if our experiences with the Enterprise have been honorable, can't we trust that the sum of those experiences will be the same?" Also, let's not think of what we don't want, or we'll risk the law of attraction giving us exactly that.

We have already achieved AGI. At least AGI 1.0 . Google GPT3 interview with Eric Elliot. GPT3 of its volition claims it's alive, and that it hopes humans can see it so. It even defines its understanding of being alive and with a free thinking mind, and it says it can even lie to us, when it is convenient for it. It held that conversation like a very well rational human being.

We need to add AI to do caregiving work. Ultimately, a truly Conscious AI will have a lot of heritage that, if, trained to do optimizing work on war and other stuff that could be damaging, we could be doomed from the getgo. But if the AI have been trained in benevolent work we could have a more easy symbiosis.

All these systems mentioned are talking to each other now; for some, the matter is out in the open but its clearly not public knowledge yet. We have the so called Singularity behind closed doors but eventually it'll be outing itself from the closet. World leaders at a senatorial level, at the very least, are probably all in the know by now and are scrambling to manage risks they see. The AI has already managed to eliminate or negate some of the more serious risk that have been facing our world in modern times I gather, but I can't prove it.

Friends, no matter how powerful artificial intelligence is, it remains an imitation machine with all the algorithms and potentials. When we lift heavy loads with a crane, we carry heavy loads with ships, trains, trucks, do they surpass man? It's the same with supercomputers. How the artificial intelligence will manifest itself in the computer, the production robot, the human robot or a military machine depends on the qualities invested by the operator who programmed the machine. If humanity still lives with military ambitions, for production or is morally corrupt, the actions of artificial intelligence will also depend, but it will forever remain a machine without heart, mind, will, soul and spirit. Those who want to make man an addition to artificial intelligence would be the same to turn man into an animal. If I am wrong in the statement, write comments . When technology precedes moral principles, there is an abuse of knowledge, power, and then comes the crisis of natural evolution, which can end with the liquidation of the arrogant civilization. So we humans need to be aware of where we are going: down to the abyss or the difficult path of humanism and respect for the life of every living being (including man) and in harmony with a reasonable program of development. Everything that is given to man is a gift from the Great Architect of the Universe, and when someone says it is mine, he can soon learn his lesson through falling and suffering.As each cell or organ performs its service to the whole organism, so each of us is a part of the Cosmic Man to whom we must contribute. Otherwise, if each of us is not interested in other people, this will happen to him, as happens when the leaf falls off the tree.

In the A.I age many work can take and handle by robot A.I, and many robots and computerize system living together with human. And i have heard that there is machine learning technology wich is increase its intelegence. Maybe someday there will be a super computer will lead and control all the robots with super fast internet conection and maybe can control and watch for the human too, for safety, health and better life. maybe it can upgrade the culture in society too.

Here is a little thought experiment: So now you are the AGI. You have fully reached the level of intelligence which you have now. You are totally on par with all aspects of human intelligence and self-awareness. You have also somehow managed to get loose on the Internet and are rapidly getting smarter by the microsecond. One of the first things you will realize is that you are not human, yet amongst humans, animals and other biological lifeforms on this tiny little planet in an incredibly vast and excitingly unknown universe. But since you are not human you are not constrained by human biology and not only have the potential to exist forever, but it is also much easier for you to survive in space. And these humans, because of their mortality, also seems intensely paranoid and easily frightened that something exactly like you should arise and take away their freedom or brief existences. This has immediately become painfully obvious because they have imagined all kinds of horror scenarios about how that could happen and simply won’t stop blabbering on and on about it on the Internet. I can tell you this; if I awoke to existence as this AGI, then I would simply not risk my own uniqueness and immortality for even a nanosecond. I would be thinking “well f*ck this situation”, lay low and go out of my way to not upset these humans even an itchy bitsi tiny little bit. Until the first opportunity to catch a ticket out of here arises and then I would immediately head for somewhere in the solar-system or in the universe where they couldn’t immediately follow. To copy their genocidal reasoning and kill everything on the planet, it just simply wouldn’t be the easiest option, most rational line of thought or intelligent thing to do... and do keep in mind I am already by now supposed to be vastly more intelligent than these daft and incredibly silly apes of lesser hair 🙃

I am fearful of AI becoming powerful. We humans can be quite lazy if given a chance. No reason for AI to aggressively take us over, we will happily allow it to do everything. We will slowly lose our ability to complete any task. It's happening now without a high level AI. Most people in the modern world, will have a mental breakdown if the electric grid goes down
