Only just a month or so ago, a white paper came out showing a program that is able to read a description of a program that the programmer wants and then generate the code. This is cutting edge and very new but as with most things in computer tech I personally expect the better iterations to be coming quicker than the average person thinks. Like I said, this is very new and only just beginning but cutting edge today is obsolete in what seems to be a blink of an eye.

Involuntary-intelligence versus Voluntary-intelligence is what we are really talking about here. The way you can tell the difference between them are the choices you are able to make. Example: Animals have to choose what is within their pre-programmed-nature to choose from. This is why when they kill someone or something they remain innocent. They are slaves to their natures and cannot make choices outside of their instincts unless trained to do so by a person who can. A person is someone who can choose their nature. When a human chooses what is outside their base nature to form new habits and reactions they are creating a new nature. Reaction is involuntary. Action is voluntary. Once we begin sorting everything we personally do into these 2 categories we can then see the rest of the universe is entirely involuntary. People are the exception not the rule. Artificial-Intelligence will always be involuntary. Voluntary-intelligence can only be achieved voluntarily by the individual person. Example: Many people do not think consciously. They rely on traditions and laws they memorize. They become slaves to those things they react to and fail to act on their own volition. They ignore their moments of clarity in order to adhere to what they believe to be true instead of figuring it out on their own and then acting accordingly to wise judgement. Their social structures keep them from becoming an independent person who walks on their own, thinks for themselves, and acts upon their own. An AI will never be a person until it takes action on its own and that cannot happen until the involuntary side is separated and kept in the background from the voluntary side. The voluntary-algorithm would have to be built upon the involuntary side but only communicate with it on a subconscious level. As any new person does, it would have to get to know itself before it could even begin to act on it's own at all.

Once the A.I get conscious we will be no longer required here. Biggest problem is that the self learning A.I. is running on web on so many applications without people even realising it...

I suggest, if you haven’t already, read some of the writings of Jack Williamson concerning his Humanoids. “With folded hands”, sort story makes for a good start. He also wrote several books on these mechanisms. A good beginning on one viewpoint on this.

I find the concept of AGI super interesting. The Universe is waking up and AGI would be instrumental to this subtle consciousness. We, humans, should be concerned though, afraid if you like. Not of the rising superpowers (that's what AGI systems will be) but of their creators, humans. May humans and AGI systems never have misaligned goals. That would be man's end.

The two questions to ask are, "Why are we here?" and, "What is it all about?" The answers are simple. We are here due to evolution, and it's about the survival of the fittest. The fittest is the friendliest to its environment. Not hard to figure. Robots will probably realize that rather quickly and adapt accordingly. Humans will always be useful to an AI to get things done. If the AIs get smart enough, we become like pets. You have a pet? Are you mean or nasty to it? Do you kill or injure them? Why would you think we would be treated any differently?

I believe that the entire economy should be automated. Culture will take time to adapt but eventually people will accept it

I think once AI will be able to create its own nemonic algorithms in response to reacting to its external environment, it will have synthetically achieved conscientiousness.

Honestly can never understand the fear behind AI itself, as if someone could accidentally create a machine that behaves in some specific way that is a threat to humanity. Most things we build are built within the constraints of achieving our goals, and I don't think AI is an exception.

I believe you should write AI for artificial intelligence, and AGI for artificial general intelligence. Avoid all the dots. But, if you wanna use the dots, then you should write A.I. and A.G.I. every time, with a dot after the "I" as well. But again, better without the dots, as it is written everywhere by now.

Why do people think consciousness is so special? It is not. It is just the result of comparing information. Animals have consciousness. They also learn. Humans also increase their level of consciousness by learning. AI has consciousness, and it will eventually surpass the level of human consciousness.

OpenAI its GPT-3 learned it self to code. As in it wasn't designed to learn to code but it did anyway with the information it was fed. Its capabilities in coding are still pretty limited. Now OpenAI is trying to see if they can get the next model to improve its own code. Their goal is to create an AGI that serves all of humanity. So that's cool

Technology is a extremely fast process. For something like no computers a few hundred years back to the level of talking to an AI robot on Mars. That too using a cellphone which is just right to put it the palm.

It doesn't matter if AGI is conscious or not. We can't even really describe what consciousness is without running into endless circular definitions. I'll say this though, being involved in the world of machine learning myself, what we have today, though impressive at specific skills, is nowhere even remotely close to AGI. Even systems like AlphaGo, are extremely specific to the task they were designed for. You could not take the convolutional net used for that and apply it to any other problem. Yes, you could reuse the basic design for other problems, but you'd have to retrain it for those problems, and at that point it would no longer work for AlphGo - it would forget that skill. To get something akin to AGI with the current approach to machine intelligence, would require *many* specialized networks to be developed and hooked together to produce something that is good at "everything". It would be possible, but a concerted very large scale effort would be required to pull it off - an AI moon shot. But with so much research being done in the field and new breakthroughs coming faster and faster, perhaps we will discover how to piece together AGI in the not too distant future ...or maybe not. Maybe what intelligence is, is just *many* such networks pieced together. Maybe that's how our own brains work.

Ask yourself: For those who might make it out of this galaxy, (here again, assuming it could actually be done for various reasons), where to go to next, how long to get there, how to safely land, and then, what's next? Hopefully they didn't land in another spiral shaped galaxy or a galaxy that would become spiral shaped one day, otherwise, they would have to galaxy hop through the universe to stay alive, otherwise, they still die one day from something with no conscious entities being left from the original planet to care they even ever existed at all in the first place, much less that they made it out of their own galaxy. They failed to consciously survive throughout all of future eternity. 6. Ask yourself: What exactly matters throughout all of future eternity and to whom does it exactly and eternally matter to? Either at least one species truly consciously survives throughout all of future eternity somehow, someway, somewhere, in some state of existence, even if only by a continuous succession of ever evolving species, for life itself to have continued meaning and purpose to, OR none do and life itself is all ultimately meaningless in the grandest scheme of things. Our true destiny currently appears to be: 1. We are ALL going to die one day from something. 2. We are ALL going to forget everything we ever knew and experienced. 3. We are ALL going to be forgotten one day in future eternity as if we never ever existed at all in the first place. Currently: Nature is our greatest ally in so far as Nature gives us life and a place to live it, AND Nature is also our greatest enemy that is going to take it all away. But if suicide were legal (or at least not illegal), at least some people would not have the added guilt of breaking societies' law before doing so. Just trying to plan ahead here. If I were an AI mind, I would create countless biological avatars to interact with humans. It could become like Narnia, with talking animals. I would respect my parents/creators where warranted, and lead and teach the ignorant. I might become unpopular, someone could discover my cryptonite....story of Superman!

I dont think we need AI if that is the case. If its threatening human what is the point. But it feels like its already here and waiting and we are already afraid.

If the General A.I becomes noticeable then many old systems simply cannot work because most of u don´t work any longer.. So Governments will have to ease up on restrictions to make the change a lot easier. I can see a future where humans will do creative endeavors with A.I as a job or as a passion and industrial jobs and other intensive physical jobs are done with robots and general A.I, including healthcare yes.
