According to the sentinels, at some point Doomguy just stopped speaking. Meaning, all this might be going through Doomguy's head as you play the games. He's just not saying it out loud.

Not really. In the actual game the doomguy seems way more serious with the only signs of insanity is his evil smile when he gets a new gun. Here he is genuinely batshit Insain, while he was sain enough for him to survived hell 6 times in a row, and stay in hell...granted he went to hell for revenge for his bunny...yeah he's nuts

He still has all that rage inside and in the storysnin eternal its clear they never tamed him as he never took their help for his wounds and was always the first to fight. He just absorbed his rage into being mute. If they tamed him he wouldnt have killed the final priest cause he was in the arena, but he didnt care as he didnt care about them either, his mind was on humanity. Even hugo himself has said the slayer is seeing things like daisy in every level (yes she is still dead and him seeing her is cause his mind is basically gone) even 2016 says he is more or less just a murder machine that doesnt think much beyond brute force to solve issues. They never tamed him.

it does, but with one key difference: doom 64 ended with you choosing to remain in hell, battling demons endlessly to ensure they don't pull the shit they pulled ever again. then hes forced to fight these demons for god knows how long when he quotes the comic in the flashback, it has a completely different tone - he's been fighting demons for god knows how long.

I think what this means is that the passage of time in Hell essentially stops from the perspective of anyone (or anything) there. And it is non-linear. Consider that it takes eons for a human to transform to demon without intervention, yet Hell continually creates more of them with which to invade other dimensions in less than that timespan (an eon is a billion years). So from an outside perspective perhaps only years have passed, but to victims of Hell it has been eternity. It is relativity on a massive, interdimensional scale. It was also said that the Slayer fought Hell for eons, or 3 ages between Doom 64 and Doom 2016. "The age of his reckoning was uncounted. He came, as he always had, _as he always would_ ". By the time Hell spit him out on Argent D'nur he had probably been fighting demons longer than our universe has existed. Hence him being a raving lunatic

With all the Berserk injections he's used...well, from the manual, the Berserk powerup is basically an artificially-induced adrenaline rush. And in Doom 2016, it is described in a way where it gives a normal human being the power to disembowel someone with a pen knife.

Doomguy is probably the most badass dork in gaming. Guy actively monologues to himself about how much he loves killing like a child, he has a pet bunny he names daisy, he collects and plays with toys, Reads comic books, and he even plays DND as evidenced by Doom Eternal.
