Interesting story about this song. Alice Cooper band were friends with The Doors and Alice tells this story, "You couldn’t help but get caught up in Jim’s mystique. He was always this ethereal type of person. I remember sitting down with Jim one time. He said: “So, what’s up, man?” I replied: “Oh, I don’t know, man. I woke up this morning and got myself a beer.” And that ended up being one of the lyrics in Roadhouse Blues by The Doors. Pretty funny! Keep up the good work JP!

Jim at his screaming best, just some pure rock n blues. Had no idea John Sebastian was playing the harp on this one, the more you know lol.

What was so awesome was the musical freedom they had to do such a wide expanse of musical ideas. This song, plus Five To One, The Unknown Soldier, Touch Me, The Soft Parade, Riders On The Storm, The Crystal Ship - they went anywhere and everywhere.

The great guitarist Lonnie Mack plays bass on this track. Man, does he nail it. His groove is so laid-back and heavy that it punches right through and the band follows him. I bet that was a surprise and a delight....seeing this dude just climb inside their song like that. Tremendous.

This was my Friday night go to song! before hitting the Town back in the 70s A couple of Spliffs, couple of lines of class A's and the World is your oyster, anything could happen and probably did! Still love it, great memories of teenage years!!...

Great track and the line, "Woke up this morning and got myself a beer" was apparently what Alice Cooper, friend of Jim's, said to him one time, so he used it in the song !.( Btw, hope you didn't open a portal with that mid song chant, lol).

A classic slice of driving blues-rock and a great opener for possibly my favourite Doors album (it's Morrison Hotel or L. A. Woman for me, with Waiting For The Sun a close third).

...Roadhouse - Patrick Swayze 😎 ...that song just rolls along - all give what they got... the bass, the piano, mouth harp, and Jim's booming vocals - very infectious good mooded to me PS. memories come up: when I walked a long-distance marathon of about 1.000kms in 2005 - with many weak moments, where all energy had been sucked out of me... two boosters that I used occasionally, were singing these 2 Doors songs inwardly, and sometimes loudly: 'Peace Frog' and 'Roadhouse Blues' - they are true power snacks ⚡🌟🌞

Hey Justin! Some great lines in the lyrics. Woke up this morning and got myself a beer. Now who hasn't done that? Lol. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel. Especially good if you have been drinking!! Lol. Please don't drink and drive!!!!👍😎

Speaking of John Sebastian on harmonica, I don't think you've ever checked out his band, The Lovin' Spoonful. Great feel-good music from the 60s. Add them to your list.

There's a great failed outake on one of the reissue versions of the La Woman album, where, when the track falls apart, you can hear Jim say something like, " Aw, c'mon Robbie, we're going to the roadhouse, not the bathroom!" 😂 Worth remembering this is essentially live, looking for that one take where its lightning in a bottle, minimal overdubs, the whole album is done that way.

'Ole Audiophile to justjp: The Doors were a very old favorite of mine who's music has withstood the test of time over the many decades hence. Soft Parade had left some feeling The Doors had started that great parade off into the sunset for a short time, then they released Morrison Hotel. It very soon became my very favorite for it's blues takes. Jim was at his zenith of civil disobedience during his live shows so the band needed some positive promotion through their studio material. They got that & more with this bluesy-studio wonder. Released in early Feburary, 1970, this album was years before it's time. Thanx.

Timeless banger. Status Quo did a pretty good job of it on the Piledriver album and also the live Glasgow Apollo album

An anthem for us young punks of the 70s, the get up this morning and cracking a cold brew sounded cool, we rarely did it though. Now, I paint very late into the early morning and have had an early morning beer before eventually hitting the sack. It’s… ok, not as cool as it used to sound. Great song!

I first came upon this song with Status Quo's cover version and that's always how it should sound in my head but this is what The Doors did best. I am annoyed at Morrison for being such a hopeless (and doomed) alcoholic. If he had kept it together, we might have had some more great music from him.

Yes! Really hoping you do the whole album eventually, I think it’s up there with the debut and LA Woman that you already have. Glad you did the original version, there’s a 40th or 50th anniversary edition with extra wordless vocals by Morrison and some sloppy harmonica. I always assumed that was Morrison trying an instrument. Not a fan of that version. Except at the end when he yells “Yikes!”. And John Sebastian was a friend, he joined them onstage to play the old blues song Little Red Rooster. Was recorded for a live album. He was in The Lovin’ Spoonful and did the Welcome Back Kotter theme. Not sure how many people know he can kill it on harmonica.

Afternoon, Justin. After a nap, what I need is Another Cup Of Coffee. But The Doors certainly wake me up. A drunken blues number, as you say, but The Doors do it better than anyone else. Jim's vocals are just extraordinary, and matched by Ray's terrific bluesy piano licks. P.S. My song ref Another Cup of Coffee is by Mike And The Mechanics, and sung by another terrific vocalist Paul Carrack.
