The Plangent process was not used for the VMP The Doors cut.

@@stevewestman7774 Out of date info: the Rhino mono didn't have Plangent but when Botnick re-digitised in 2021 for VMP he took it to Plangent. Also mentioned in the Analog Planet review. Either way, Steve Hoffman - who has had all the tapes including the 4-track reels in his hands - says the distortion is baked in on the LEDO mono dupe.

I don't think there's a mono Japanese pressing of this album out there right? Or is there?

Doors stereo - 1992 DCC, the last time the actual master was used before the tape became unusable. The 45 rpm is a copy tape. Strange Days - 1st US press Monarch, and the DCC sound great. For mono try and find a US original, the recent repress is not as good as the original. Waiting for the Sun - 1st US monarch Soft Parade - gold label 1st US pressing Morrison Hotel - 1st us Monarch LA woman - 1st US pitman pressing - CP) or the 45rpm. This is a the one case where I can't recommend the DCC - it's just not as good.

@@murch13 You missed the part where I said "without having to sell my kidney" 😉 I'm in Australia BTW so finding a 1st US Monarch pressing here isn't happening and getting a clean one shipped here costs 2 kidneys

@@murch13 hilarious, the 1st monarch pressing of Strange Days is absolutely god awful, and the Gold Label US 1st of the Soft Parade stands NO chance against the Robert Ludwig cutting done in 1971 and the Analogue Productions

@@JeffersonDD here’s my list: STEREO, 33 1/3 Doors - 1992 DCC pressing, absolutely gorgeous pressing and perfect mastering Strange Days - 1992 DCC, Super punchy and dynamite sounding Waiting for the Sun - 1992 DCC, you’ve never heard an acoustic guitar shine like Spanish Caravan does in this cutting The Soft Parade - 1971 RL SS mastering, club pressing Morrison Hotel - 2003 German pressing, “320” matrix L.A. Woman - 1st pressing is cheaper than the DCC but the DCC has better vinyl. That one is up in the air, whichever floats your boat. DCC has a squeaky clean cut to the mastering, but blasted, it’s absolutely powerful 33 1/3 and 45 RPM The Doors - 1992 DCC, still superior to the AP Strange Days - 1992 DCC, better bottom end but the AP is no slouch, and sounds just as good Waiting for the Sun - 2012 AP 45, fantastic and kicks ASS, also does not have inner groove distortion on Unknown Soldier The Soft Parade - 2012 AP 45, super realistic sound with floaty and dreamy horns Morrison Hotel - 2012 AP 45, absolutely definitive in every aspect, shape, form. Nothing beats this, and is my personal favorite out of the AP set LA Woman - 2012 AP 45, retains that raw and energetic aspect of the 1971 OG, but with the detail and clean vinyl of the DCC.

Yep. Idk what the hell this guy is talking about. That ERC record is GARBAGE. The notion that wow flutter and tape distortion are somehow indicative of the “mono experience” is pure nonsense. For an easy comparison, listen to the original St. peppers or pet sounds mono versions. wow and flutter are not a natural part of mono. playing it off as being “raw” is a joke. This guy is a BS’er and clearly he has never mastered an album, or ever done a professional revie

Esposito doesn’t like anything he can’t sell in his store. Now he’s trashing the Rhino direct to customer audiophile sales. Botnick says the tape was the actual one used for the original mono lacquer. And, he should know (and he doesn’t own a record store).
