I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. The fluke is without a doubt my number one soft plastic confidence bait. Rigged weedless it’s a 4 x 4. I’ve tried to fish the double fluke rig before and I think it is absolutely critical to have a short leader length when just starting so you can get familiar with casting it. I found that casting it from the bank was the most difficult part about using it as a beginner. Great video Matt. Thanks for all that you do

This is great!! been watching a lot of these video's on this concept! This works very well. Only thing id ad is maybe incorporate a treble hook instead of a worm hook? There are great ways to rig this with a treble. Id love to hear your thoughts and maybe a video on this.

Caught my only double header with a downsized version. A 3" Slug-O, chasing a black 4" PowerWorm. That was 3-4 years ago...but I'm still hooked...almost always rig 1 up when taking extra rods.

BTW, Matt --- worked great yesterday for me using 2 pearl white 3.5 inch paddle tail Slam Shady flukes from Salt Strong on 6 lb Flouros to 6 lb Spiderwire braid on my 9 ft Ugly Stck, rigged w/ 2/0 fine wire Eagle Claw EWG hooks. Love the darting actions & managed to land a healthy 2.5 lb Largemouth until the bite shut down. Our water temps finally hit 60 deg last wkend, and got up to 63 deg yesterday, so they're finally out from their winter posture at my local pond and biting shallow near shore.

Hi Matt, I don’t know how I missed this one before! Come up on KZfaq - Lord knows how that all works. Solid information! very cool thanks much. Though effective tools, I shy away from rigs that require extra work like drop shot and Carolina rig. But I’m going to have to try this one. I’m running out of reasons to get bass master magazine with this kind of content!

I will have to try this again, I tried it a few years ago after seeing Mark Rose throw it. I gave up after having to repeatedly re-rig it because pike were destroying it and I got tired of re-tying.

Double Fluke Rig love it use it at California Aqueduct for Striper, this Rig pulls fish out the wood work trust me done it both ways Jighead or I run #4 wide gap it's a striper killer

I sometimes like to use two different brands but the same color. I use the Z-Man version on top, it floats, with a light wire EWG hook and mono leader. I use a Zoom Super Fluke, because of the salt it sinks, with a heavy wire EWG hook and fluoro leader. You get the same action but one runs 6-12" below the other.

Doesn't really tangle any more than two alike, as far as I can tell. Haven't noticed which one gets more bites. I'll be using it some in the next few weeks and I'll try to let you know.

No better technique for catching schooling fish on a feeding frenzy. I was doing this a week ago and caught a ton of fish in an hour and a half, including 5 doubles.

Yes, check state laws first since most states would consider this two separate baits

Nice..... haven't seen a video yet in detail on this, gonna use fish it this season. Have you ever used weighted EWG hooks to fish this rig deep like 10 plus feet down. At times I'll use a 1/4 ounce weighted EWG 10 plus feet down. Guessing that if one used the same weight about on both baits it would remain tangle free during the cast. Thanks for the info.

I haven’t tried that yet but i don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I’ll use mail weights to keep them down if i need to get a little deeper

Would you ever throw this rig in the fall as fish are feeding up on small baitfish? Found an area with lots of baitfish in beds of hydrilla and milfoil that looks like a good place to throw the rig.

I was thinking of running this for Smallmouth this fall, what pound test do you recommend? Looked like you had maybe 12-15 there? One other question when you catch a fish on that shorter fluke does the fight of the fish damage your main line?

Yes but they will tangle more often with exposed hooks

Didn’t you say you use a 15’-20’ leader? Do you rig this directly with that leader or make these up and attach them to the main leader? How do you attach them to the main leader, and what knot do you use between the main leader and the main line? I haven’t found anything about heavier-to-lighter line mono or fluoro splices. Too many questions. Sorry.

my leader length is determined by water quality. you use a small swivel to attach the first fluke

I grew up using double jigs we called tandem rigs. It's the same thing with 2 regular jig heads and whatever soft plastics you want. Love's Lures was a brand we bought pre rigged that were deadly for sea trout. Lately the Salt Strong guys have been using 2 of their flukes together and calling it a donkey rig. Tandem rigs are effective for lots of species from bass to flounder and redfish and trout and snook. Another way we do it in the saltwater sometimes is to put a heavy bucktail or whatever on the end of the line and put a loop a foot above it with a hook and a Gulp tail or a teaser, hook and Gulp or soft plastic. That's really good for flounder especially but it works for lots of fish too, especially in deep water.
