Sir Walter Raleigh was one of the most famous figures of the Tudor period in England. He is known for being an intrepid and determined explorer, a renowned soldier and also a prominent member of Queen Elizabeth I's court. Raleigh grew very close to the Queen and he became one of her favourites, with Raleigh being showered in many gifts and titles from Elizabeth. He is also known today for being the figurehead behind the 'Lost Colony of Roanoke Island.'
He had it all in Tudor England, he had lots of power and was also incredibly rich. However he greatly offended the Queen when he married one of her ladies in waiting, Bess Throckmorton. This was a complete betrayal from Raleigh, and it was clear the Queen like him and for this she ordered Raleigh and his wife to be thrown into the Tower of London. He later continued exploring but following Elizabeth I's death, he would fall from grace.
Very quickly after the Queen died, Raleigh was imprisoned again in the Tower of London for his involvement in a plot to dethrone new King James I. James would later pardon him after a lengthy spell in the Tower, and Walter Raleigh went out on another expedition. However during this his group would attack a Spanish outpost, which greatly raised tension between the hostile Spanish and English. Because of this James I bowed to the pressure and ordered his execution.

Once you face your death it becomes somewhat less frightening. U don't ever lose the fear. Completely but it loses it's grip on your. Integrity or lack thereof it's much harder to intimidate or maneuver a person But that doesn't mean rush out to face death bcuz it will find u soon enough but if you in the travails of your life. Are simply in a set of circumstances the galvanizing. Of will. To not. Let. Anyone leave you hemmed in. Is. A. Statistically. Almost completely invariable Fearing death is our baser and.quite often the correct reaction . but over time and paying close attention to careful yet deliberate toiling at what we do in our lives. You will have the same thing reveals itself to you. But careful observation is not possible when our emotional fragility is .at it's intensity The greatest single conquest in life is the need or desire to glorify or aggrandize the self over and or above all others as it' s relevant. The people who are in your sphere of direct influence.

My first exposure to Sir Walter Raleigh was not as a historical figure who led colonization efforts to the Americas. Rather it was through literature, poetry to be exact. Raleigh was a poet of some skill and talent. Maybe not read so much today as he was when I was a young man in my freshman year of college, but someone still worth reading. My favorite story of the man comes from the last days before his execution. He was apparently not a man who showed any fear of his fate, and was noted to be in high spirits in his final days. One person asked him how he could possibly be so cheerful at such a time. His response? A pun: "At the sad parting you'll find me grave enough." How can you not admire a man like that?

He was from my region, the Westcountry. He was a Devon man, related to Sir Francis Drake, and spoke broad Devonian, which was noted at Queen Elizabeth's court. As a note, at the time he probably pronounced his name 'Wautur Rawlee'. Queen Elizabeth was noted for ribbing him on his pronunciation of his name Walter, dropping the 'l', a common characteristic of Devonian.

I remember my dad telling me that as a kid in the 1930s calling the local drugstore and asking do you have sir Walter Raleigh in a can ( a popular pipe tobacco). They'd say yeah we got it. My dad would tell em open the lid so he doesn't suffocate lol.

Small point, but this is the second video I've heard her referred to as 'Bloody Mary the First'. There was only ever one 'Bloody Mary', so it's either 'Mary the First', or 'Bloody Mary', but not 'Bloody Mary the First', as that implies there was a 'Bloody Mary the Second'. There bloody well wasn't.

Thats got to be one of the most morbid things I've heard of. I mean if I got in trouble and had to have my head removed I guarantee my wife wouldn't want the damn thing, and if given to her she would be pissed, and she sure as heck wouldn't carry it around with her. I'll tell you 1 person I wouldn't want to be. The poor bastard who had to deliver the head. Theres a good chance she'd be carrying a part or 3 around with her.
