For those looking for it, The reason TCRI was changed to TGRI was due to the change of getting rid of the Krang plotline. "Techno Cosmic Research Industries" was changed to "Techno Global Research Industries" because they wanted to get rid of all of the connections to any alien race and the ooz that creates the turtles. Also want to point out that the art featuring Casey's version of the beginning of the movie is exactly when I hit like, nice work

In 07, the Stone guy doesn't mistake Leo as one of the 13, he takes him on purpose because he knows he isn't. It keeps the portal from stripping them of their immortality without all 13 monsters, so he did it to buy them time.
@OmegaSovereignK-

Yeah, same thought! The Foot clan is often disregarded because the Shredder's beaten and stated 'dead', the 13 monsters aren't colored gray and they're basically animals, and Ethan Winter's whole operation was mistaken by the TMNT group to be a conquest initiation, until the generals made it to be the case. I'm pretty sure if one's gonna do a movie review, they must pay attention to the whole movie put plot relevant points, such as dialogue, on notes.

In regards to TMNT III's subtitle, it actually wasn't called Turtles in Time, at least not during its theatrical nor VHS releases. A lot of people sorta mistakenly referred to it by that subtitle due to the popularity of the video-game, and I guess it became so common that eventually the DVD release started using it, too.

I rewatched TMNT 1990 a year or two ago. I pay a lot more attention to detail and expressions than I used to. I was worrying that they may not look as realistic as in my memories. Holy shit, I was blown away. They felt alive, their movements, their facial expressions. Acting felt more genuine than in most movies and these are just puppets. 22:37 The movie isn't called "Turtles in Time", it's only "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III". It's been given the "turtles in time" title over the years by fans, because of the similarities between the videogame and movie. And Nickelodeon started using it in marketing for streaming services and on DVD box art. Also the 2nd movie didn't make alot of money like the 1st did. That's why the 3rd movie took longer to come out and was a last chance gamble on the dying popularity of the franchise.

Ninja Turtles II does have my fav hideout. The way the movie presents the abandoned subway will always be in my heart. In defense of the ooze reveal, there is a positive message in it. Donnie was so let-down that the mutagen was nothing special and he's breaking into an existential crisis since he always hoped he and his family were destined for something grand. But Splinter tells him that who you are is what's most important, not how you were brought here.

The change from T.C.R.I. to T.G.R.I. happened because they altered the lore behind the Ooze, so, instead of "Techno Cosmic Research Institute" is now called "Techno Global Research Institute". Professor Perry, also, was changed; originally, he was an Ultrom in disguise, with a reveal towards the end, in front of a mirror, but the scene was cut and the character just disappears after the Battle in the nightclub.

My theory about the 90's TMNT trilogy is that through the 3 movies the turtles health and mental health declines due to side effects of the ooze, it explains why they look the way they do by the third film with the spots and "dopey" demeanor. If you watch the movies with that in mind it's actually pretty sad and tragic

Interesting, but I never seen it that way. Just seen it for what it was, another differently made movie. Though they both fell off the Gold Standard the First (O.G. Tmnt 1990) made and set up, they weren't that bad. Example is the 3rd movie, which even had Mikey and Raph grow as characters, and set some pretty serious stuff involving the Turtles and Yoshi that was pretty cool. 3 examples are: A) is Mikey actually risking his life to actually be a hero, saving that kid's life from a wildly burning building, and almost not surviving the experience. B) is Raph's coming to terms with, and learning about, his own anger issues through seeing the anger in Yoshi, and he advising that kid about his own rebelling anger and impatience. So Raph really bonded with that human boy actually seeing his younger self in Yoshi, though he'd always been distant cold antisocial and a loner.. and that's something! C) which is Leo's performing CPR on a supposedly dead little boy, after Mike had risked his own life to save him, then everyone rejoicing that Yoshi actually made it through, and, the total love and respect that the humans gave the so-called "kappa" Turtles afterwards! So that movie wasn't a total waste. And it's the first to have a Turtle crushing on a human.. (yuck).. Mike with Mitsu, and learning for the first time real depression heartbreak and unrequited love. Also the side story about acceptance love respect and friendship that they felt in feudal Japan compared to the isolation unacceptance fear disrespect and hate they've always had back home in NYC.. and for the love they had for April Splinter and Casey.. and the courage they had to be willing to face that cold hard lonely life once again.. they came back to be a unit, a team, a family! So this 3rd movie isn't a total loss nor failure!

Personally I like TMNT 2. I know folks think Turtles 2 started the downfall, I still love it! TMNT 3 really marked its downfall as the costumes of the turtles felt off. Secret of the Ooze just had some great comedy with the characters and fleshed them out as bothers. It's fun! Also I still think the practical effects are FANTASTIC! The costumes/animatronics surpassed the 1st film by the same Jim Henson crew! Just fabulous!!!

I rewatched these movies awhile ago and it was really fun. TMNT 1990 is so good. It has such a good balance of comedy and seriousness that it works overall. The costumes were terrific too. I remember liking TMNT II more when I was little, but it is really jarring to see it after the first movie, to the point where it doesn't even feel like they're set in the same universe. It's still a pretty fun movie despite being a step backwards from the first movie. I actually kind of like TMNT III. While it's a weaker movie compared to the first two, it felt a lot more consistent with the tone of TMNT II. That probably isn't a good thing, but it felt like a more natural follow up tone wise coming from that movie as opposed to the first movie. It isn't surprising that TMNT III gained such an infamous reputation amount fans and I wouldn't go as far as saying it's underrated, but it was still fun. The dialogue could get so ridiculously stupid that I laughed, I liked seeing Casey again even though he didn't do anything and it had some fun moments. I have a hard time believing that TMNT 2007 is set in this same continuity. I know that there are nods to the previous movies, but it feels more like Easter Eggs to me. The tone would also feel a bit out of place, but this movie series never had a consistent tone to begin with. It was a pretty fun movie with some terrific CGI animation. The Leo vs. Ralph scene definitely gets a lot of attention and not having the turtles voice by celebrities does make the voice cast stand out too. It's a shame that they didn't get to do a continuation since that could have been interesting, but this was a pretty decent movie too.

One of the things that's most immediately telling is that in the thumbnail, you used photos of the actual turtle suits/CGI, but for the first movie, you used a photo of an action figure based on the 1990 suits...and even though it's literally a TOY, it still looks better than any of the others. That's how great those suits were.

I heard that Baxter Stockman was going to be the villain of the second film, I think I would have gone a bit further. I would have kept Tokka and Rahzar but also included Bebop and Rocksteady so all 4 of them could serve as a dark reflection of the turtles. Rahzar would be an authoritarian leader who abuses his power as well as weilding a sword Rocksteady would be a aggressive guy who easily gets angry, letting it out on his teammates, he would use daggers Bebop would be a annoying, rude and sadistic wisecracker who enjoys combat, he would use a whip Tokka would be a arrogant douche who would brag about his intelligence and shove it into everyone's face, he would use a hammer I would have the climax involve Baxter getting mutated into a Fly and Splinter comes in to battle him. I've even had thoughts that following this I would of had the third film be about a Utrom called Krang breaking Baxter and his mutant teams out of prison to help him in his goals

If the turles ever got a reboot in the films, I really hope it takes some inspiration from the IDW comics, which does great job taking elements from previous versions (cartoons, movies and original comics) while still having some very unique stories like Donnatello having his mind being transfered to Metalhead or the Turtles taking over the Foot Clan (resulting in many dark moments and character dealing with complex dillemas.

I'd say Michaelangelo is pretty obviously "the light lighthearted one" in the Mirage comics; like there's the issue where he gets his pet stray cat and messes around with toys in a store, then saves a truck of toys for orphans. Then another issue starts out as what seems to be a gritty period piece & turns out to just be Mikey reading out his Lone Wolf and Cub-inspired story to his cat. Leonardo is more thoughtful and philosophical one like in the arc where Casey accidentally kills a guy and has a breakdown, Raphael is basically himself, Leonardo is the kinda all-around leader who's cooler in the comic (like the Christmas issue where he tries his best to fight the Foot ninjas on his own so his brothers can have a good Christmas)... but hmm maybe the cartoon running at the same time affected some of this too so you got a point.

Secret of the ooze suffers from 2 things, 1st was parents. They literally made waves and lawsuits and the solution was to basically let the turtles never use the weapons. It was literally to shut up parents calling it way too violent and scary. Next is studio cheapness. Don't forget that the original is one of the highest grossing independent movies of all time. And they wanted to make it quick and not licence anything from the cartoon. Which is why all the missing aspects occur. And the terrible ending. Cheap and fast. Exactly what the studio wanted.

I hope that one day we get a TMNT movie with a New York reminiscent of the new Batman movie with a story that’s dark (more dark than usual) and compelling. A movie that doesn’t follow the typical Ninja Turtles movie formula and does something new and creative with the characters and plot. Basically a TMNT film on the same level of The Batman if not even better. If only I was a film director… 😅

I've got plans, bro. I've been planning my version of my live action TMNT trilogy that loosely adapts the original 80s comics while retaining the stuff from the more iconic versions of Turtles since. I'd maybe bring in a less anime-esque interpretation of the mystic powers from Rise. No glowing stuff, just Leo Teleporting, Mikey making Naruto-esque shadow clones, etc (I might cut this, but it provides some cool cinematography for Shredder). I made designs, made a hypothetical cast, and I have a plot outline for all three movies with the main character firmly being Leo (of whom I gave an arc of trust and not to let emotions drive him). It's literally my dream project
@Linklex7

Turtles isn’t really as dark as most people think. The first issue is dark but it gets silly afterwards. Turtles works better when silly, though I will say they need to use a new villain. Give Shredder a break.
@youngramesh5970
@youngramesh5970 Жыл бұрын
@@Vegitodraws, ngl I’ve been doing the same. It could be dark with really stylistic visuals and with The Batman’s level of violence, but still have a good amount of humour to lighten things up. The first movie could have Baxter Stockman as the villain and the second could have Shredder. But not the traditional, old-fashioned Shredder. This time, it would be a younger Shredder that isn’t super intimidating at first but makes the audience and everyone in the film fear him with his actions and in the way the character is portrayed. He could be either the son or the brother of Oroku Saki who (similar to the OG comics) sets out for revenge on Splinter and then the turtles after his father’s death. Man, this movie would just be so thrilling, I really hope to see a film like this one day.

Unrelated but I imagine that had Nick not bought the turtles, I imagine that WB would’ve bought the Turtles instead since New Line Cinema (Which WB would end up owning) distributed the original live action trilogy and WB distributed the 2007 film. In defense of 2007's plot outside the family stuff; I just watched this movie today and saw things a little differently than you, I think. First, I don't think Winters is meant to be the villain at all, really. He's basically a reverse twist villain, you think he's gearing up to do something evil because his plans are left vague for a lot of the film, but then at the climax it's revealed he was never the bad guy. His generals are the true antagonists. Second, while it's not executed very well, there are some parallels between the villains and the turtles that had the potential to be interesting. Winters repeatedly refers to his generals as his family, his brothers and sister, and I think the way they turn on him was supposed tp parallel Leo and Raph's family conflict, what they could have been if they weren't both good people who genuinely love each other at heart. That was my take, anyways. Great video!

Listening to this review, it really does reinforce my personal reading that most people when talking about how good TMNT (2007) is, they’re usually referring to the fight scene between Raph and Leo. Not that it’s entirely a bad thing, the scene is good, but everything surrounding the Turtles that actually pertains to the plot and villains doesn’t connect with any sense of grace or sometimes at all. A theme is present. Families separated coming back together but resentment and time tears them apart only for one family to come together stronger while the other divides. It’s there, but there’s nothing much outside of that to connect the two besides an obligatory final battle. The Turtles don’t even care about the warriors until Leo is captured, and that’s near the end of the film. 60-70% of this movie is boring while the the other 40-30% is actually compelling by dragged down by incomplete ideas. Also, just as a quick aside, I hate in the beginning where the Turtles are introduced. They have their names spoken either immediately before or immediately after they get a flashy subtitle spelling their name out for the audience…even though the movie just said the name out loud already or were about to so that’s kind of pointless and irritating.

The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie absolutely slaps. It's quickly approaching 35 years-old, and the suits, stunts, action and comedy are still top-notch. They took a design as goofy as 80's Shredder; and made his comically large helmet and red sequinned suit look intimidating.

It’s crazy how TMNT 2007 has really grown a big, more loyal fandom over the years. It was by no means a bomb with fans but I feel like people mostly saw it as generic and bland and biased towards Leo back in the day. This was my first Turtles movie I saw in theater and I love it despite its flaws, it’s nice to see some appreciation for it. If the Turtle franchise wants it could adapt Last Ronin as a way to finish the movie quartet just age up the Turtles while keeping the dark more mature tones and themes. For the design keep it similar to the first movie just grittier and battle weary.

Part 3 would have been better if You kept the time travel plot but you made the main villain an ancestor of Oroku Saki. You kept the Turtles appearances only during the dark. You had a better company make the animatronic suits. You brought back Judith Hoag Part of the plot would have been The turtles battling Saki's ancestor (while trying to get the scepter to get home) and the other on April O'Neil and Casey's relationship ups and downs since part 1. Maybe have them travel back in time as well and while they are exploring how to mend their relationship, April is kidnapped by Saki's ancestor by his clan (not yet the Foot).

So, I didn’t know about Eastman and Laird not liking Bebop and Rocksteady, but another reason they didn’t bring them on was because of rights to characters issues. Probably the same with that cartoon Stockman. Also, the no weapons and less violence is because of dimwit parents saying the first movie was too dark and violent. Also, also, the reason it’s TGRI rather than TCRI is because the C is supposed to stand for “Cosmic,” and if they followed the comics more then the turtles would have gone to space and back. They chose to cut that part out because moneys, and instead kept them on Earth. They changed the C to a G since there wasn’t going to be anything Cosmic about the movie. (I can’t remember what the G stood for. I think it was like Ground or something.)
