This video shows why you need to complete a "meridian flip" with your telescope mount if you are tracking certain objects. In this video we deal with the meridian flip using a Celestron AVX and ASIair.

I have 3 refractors on 2 AVX tripods and 1 TC40. My Redcat51 on the TC40 and an Askar FRA500 and Askar 65PHQ on the AVX tripods. I use EFWs on both Askars and also a Pegasus Falcon V2 on the FRA500 set up. All three HAVE PIERS ADDED to avoid collisions with cams and tripod legs. I have the EFWs set to an 'upward' position rather than down. The Falcon, also set upwards, lets me adjust the rotation of my ZWO ASI2600 DUO. My ASI2600 Pro (non-DUO) uses a manual rotator. These give me the best fit within the sensor frame especially for DSOs like Andromeda and larger nebula like NGC7000. This way I can orient my image for the sensor without having to rotate the EFW keeping it away from the tripod. I obviously do this for meridian flips and collision avoidance. It works perfectly. BTW: I use 200mm piers on the two Askars and a 160mm for the Redcat. I generally use an ASI533 Pro Color on the Redcat or my Nikon Z6. I also have an ASI6200 Pro Mono but that uses filters LRGB & SHO and is a much more complicated process for DSO imaging. I have done many, many flips and have never had a collision or that type issue with these set ups. However, I should mention that I don't use my AVX mount any more. I have 2 ZWO AM5s and a ZWO AM3 for the Redcat. The precision of these mounts is impeccable and especially when it comes to flips. I run everything remotely and use the PLAN subroutine for the night so I can just go to bed and get up to superb images. Hope this helps. CS

That’s flipping awesome. It’s not as scary as they say. I’m surprised the software doesn’t issue an alert so you can stop the camera before it automatically does the flip. (If it does a flip)

The ASIAIR does a count down at the bottom of the screen when the meridian is coming up. You can turn this option on or off in the settings. In the Meridian Flip Settings, you can stop tracking X number of minutes before the meridian and set the flip to occur X number of minutes after the meridian has been passed.

i have 2 gem's one a pole mount one a tripod. the pole mount is no problem. on the tripod i put the two legs facing southwest and southeast with the one leg due north. (northern hemisphere of course). this way it avoids clearance problems with legs. now mind you my gem can rotate in the tripod base , i'm not sure of your setup.

I have found that with my sct I have to refocus after the flip.

A better solution is to get rid of the tripod and install a proper pier.

Or at least add a pier, 200mm or 160mm for a little height help. I would especially do this as the AVX mount is not always 100% reliable. I've had several cold nights when the I would return the AVX to its home position after a few hours and the white marks would not be lined up and were even sometimes more than 10 or 20 deg off. CS
