I miss the days when Hollywood used to make movies like Rush Hour. The franchise literally starred a Black guy and a Chinese guy. 2 non-white people from cultures that couldn't be further apart from each other but who we as the audience loved to root for as a brotherly duo and see them kick-ass and save the day, not because there was some social message about how some tokenized non-white characters are brave, bold and flawless and who can do no wrong that the movie was trying to preach to the viewers, but because they simply focused on making a fun movie that everyone could enjoy even now. That is what made the series as well as Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan so iconic and universally loved to this day as Carter and Lee.

Closest thing they have to 'the message' is that they have two lesbian relationships in the movie. The first being crated into the story and is 'one' of the things going on in the opening act that is making mother and daughter estranged from eachother. The other is played more for laughs, as it's in the surreal verse (Hotdogs for fingers). In both instances, it's not the focus, it's just going on. Which sadly a lot of modern writers don't seem to understand.

I was tricked. Somebody said that this is what "Multiverse of Madness" should have been, so I thought I would give it a try. It had Michelle Yeoh which is always a plus for me even when the movie is crap. I was expecting a mild scifi movie with a bit of action. What happened instead is, I watched this wild, super (or over?) imaginative, rollicking sci-fi epic across the multiverse. I got one of the most enjoyable martial arts movies of the year. I busted a gut through this over the top, hilarious, at times cringe inducing and other times slapstick comedy. I experienced this heart rending drama about unrequited love, romance and a collapsing marriage. I felt the intense hurt, misery, comfort and the love that a parent/child relationship can generate. I never expected this much of a film experience in one sitting and they didn't even need four hours to it. I was tricked because I don't expect great, balanced and entertaining movies anymore.

you miss the whole point of the movie. he IS manly - he is successful and can become the freaking CEO of a movie industry if he goes alone. Here's the secret: the main character role was actually written for Jackie Chan but he passed on it, and the main character switched to Michelle Yeoh.
