Sure, it relates to it because the 2nd guy trolled them and used his keyboard to make it look like he was cheating, and they investigated and said, "Oh yeah, totally cheating. We looked into it." Its absolutely insane that PA banned a player for this, when there are/were multiple people that openly macro'd and piloted in the game and they just quit bdo after selling their accounts pocketing thousands of dollars. Back in the day people would literally use tamer's pet to afk farm. People used berserker spin as well (in fact a SIEGE guild GM was caught using macros). People used novas little gimps to macro farm. There was a streamer that was piloting for hundreds of hours and was only caught because someone got a video of her character grinding while she was playing some other game on stream. "Accidentally macro" - is already not really accurate, it doesn't seem like he had an actual macro for the game. Not like he accidentally opened a wallhack. I've had one of those keyboards, and they come pre-programmed to just type stuff like "Hello World" or something, no matter what program you're in. So as you can see on that guys screen, he opened and closed loads of inventory screens, and did something random. Clearly it wasn't a Macro for the game that did lots of attacks in a row or something. It was just random input

@@VytautasLDK It's implicit that it's something intended and designed to interact with the game in question, otherwise tipping a coffee mug over your keyboard can also be seen as macro use as you didn't manually make those inputs either. From the game's perspective, there's no difference between a human pressing keys and the keyboard's onboard controller sending key events according to a preprogrammed macro. The game (or operating system, or hardware) can't distinguish between what the keyboard perceives as a macro key vs. a normal key. Heck, every key can be a macro key on a QMK keyboard, even though 99% of the time it's 1 keypress for 1 input event. There's also no strict standard keyboards have to adhere to to be considered "non-cheat-compliant", so the developers have to analyze the inputs the game receives and determine whether they were made synthetically with an unfair advantage in mind. There's no other way to distinguish cheating from not cheating.

@@MunyuShizumi It is even better, because in the second case, the guy was actually making the inputs. He wasn't cheating at all or doing macro. The only evidence they should even consider are the game logs, not his stream on twitch... This is an actual witch hunt. A brief software engineer's comment: Not all key presses are logged in most games, when it comes to mmos, it's extremely rare. To save an entry for all players would require a massive database storage load which is very rarely worth it. What's a lot more likely to be logged are player's actions (such an a spell or an attack), and these are commonly logged though a database handled field, so they are logged in the millisecond the action is performed (which would be one after another). It'd be exceptionally rare (and time/resource inefficient) to client-side log the instant in which the key was pressed, and afterwards retrieve it and server store it. Tl;dr: Most probably, the game developers don't log the instant in which your keys are pressed, so they can't actually know if you used a macro or not in that manner
@LouisAndPillz
@LouisAndPillz 7 ай бұрын
Wouldn't it be less rare in MMOs, where key presses can be used in situations like these and for sussing out bots and macros? Also, wouldn't logging keypresses be pretty cheaply logged? I can't imagine saving a few week's worth of "They pressed A here, they pressed the down arrow here" on top of logging the skills used would take up *that* much space. It'd just be a light text document. I'm not a software engineer, but I know WoW and Final Fantasy do it without issue. At the very least the biggest Korean MMO should be able to as well.

All I did all day back then around Christmas of 04 was jog 4 miles twice a day, and help set up our new university sports center. I mostly had free time until August of 06 to play EQ2 every day. So apparently I played the game and created so much that the GMs got involved and investigated my account. After explaining my situation, they advised me to take breaks every couple hours. Fast forward 2012 after I had quit off and on for years. There were bots all over and they did nothing. But by then, lots of things in the game had changed.

People were like, how can a stupid rapper possibly get accepted to Stanford? It was so bad that his father died of a heart attack from stress over the whole ordeal. Tablo had to go visit the college and make a documentary, to make people stop. I think ppl are just bored, and need some way to vent their own life stress on others. Even when I was an assistant Minecraft server admin in high school, I apparently did more investigation before pulling the ban trigger than some companies with real skin in the game. Bans were never issued on reports alone, at least not by me, and I'd always figure a way to catch offenders in the act before I banned or suspended them by snooping around and watching them for a bit, so they'd have an awfully difficult time calling it unjustified or appealing the decision. More work in the initial investigation, making sure to do it right, means less work later. And then I'd clean up the mess they made of the map to spite them.

There is one thing missing in this perspective: The first M in MMO stands for massive representing a critical amount of people judging the in-game values. @@mckidney1 I routinely used tempbans on first offenders or for minor, rules-violating nonsense when I was an assistant admin for a random Minecraft server back in the day. Whole bunch of people got investigated and not punished, because I could not find proof of them actually breaking rules even while using tools to observe them. 1, 3, or 7 day suspensions were typical from me for simple behavioral issues, depending on severity or repeat offenses. I didn't like permabanning people, but I certainly did that too for egregious cases and those who refused to learn. That said, I wasn't the guy assigned to catching hackers, just general policing of the short list of rules we had. That fact that you think Pearl Abyss did any internal investigation is hilarious. Temporarily while investigating? IIs this a joke?
@themagetone4184
@themagetone4184 7 ай бұрын
@@ravio1042 that's an absolutely default practice in most game studios including those who're praised right now (like grindindgears and PoE). Investigation in games with massive amount of players always comes after ban appeal and not before (sometimes there's no investigation at all). For example: i recently decided to try out PoE after getting a bit disappointed in d4. Tried it out. Got banned within first 3 days of playing the game. Since i was never given the reason why i got banned, i wrote both ban appeal and asked why i was banned at the first place. 2 weeks later PoE support finally decided it's time to reply to me. They unbanned me, but never gave a reason i was banned for. 3 days passed. I got banned again. No reason why it happened again. And for context it's a popular problem in PoE that their script is just randomly banning people for supposed RMT if the account is new and it got some kind of "unfair trade" from someone. When i went to PoE discord people literally told me it was a grave mistake to take gifts from your friends on a fresh account. Their unban policy works that way that if you got unbanned once, there's almost no way you're getting unbanned again (unless you're a streamer). And that's not even a joke. So yeah, they did not unban me for the 2nd time and said they can't do it, even tho they supposedly investigated my account first time and found out there was nothing wrong. After doing a research on forums and reddit i found out they've been unbanning people even if they were clearly botting/RMTing etc (like people were admitting that themselves on forums and reddit making fun of grindinggear). So it's safe to assume there's no "investigation" that PoE support conducts at all. It's just that if their broken script banned people once - they're guaranteed to get one unban, if that happened twice - they're guaranteed to never get unbanned. Simple as that. So in the end of the day my account is permanently banned for god knows what (the best guess is that system randomly detected some supposed RMT activity) and i am never willing to touch that game again, cuz even tho it's free to play it's literally unplayable without buying additional stash tabs via microtransaction. And i would still constantly feel the pressure of getting banned for no reason. So yeah, i find it stupid that people are so mad at PA while literally most gaming companies operate that way or even worse. Basically an industry strandard even for those games which are so desperately being hyped and praised.

Macros are virtually undetectable nowadays if built well

@@Iog0ut Depends on the game, some have mechanics that make it comically obvious - Mordhau makes any attempts at auto-blocking macros trivial to notice. It usually results in the whole enemy team jumping the guy and his own team booting him from the match, I haven't personally seen any in months.

« I would 100% assume he is lying. The only reason I believe him is because the other guy got banned » It doesn’t matter what you or someone believe. Even if everybody believes he is lying it doesn’t matter. You are innocent UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. The guy doesn’t have to defend himself and provide any proof to you. The burden of proof is on the claimant, you accuse, you prove. And the video is not proof. What would be proof would be the logs etc. That being said, they investigated 2 weeks and stated he wasn’t cheating. Then they were pressured by the community and they bent 90° and spread it all because the mighty community said so. Nobody cares about your opinion even if you are 100.000 people sharing it. Stop feeling entitled, he doesn’t owe you sh*t. If you feel entitled and expect answers and proofs from the accused, turn your PC off, you are the problem.
