Sorry there was no mention of Guy Williams. He was very much underrated.
@thejupiter25746 жыл бұрын
Guy Williams was definitely under used on that show. He was promised that he would be the lead action hero after his success as Zoro but then the format of the show changed much to some of the actors disappointment.
@Ken_James_SV5 жыл бұрын
Guy was also very annoyed that Doctor Smith became a more popular character than him, and the Doctor was given more lines and a more interesting character. It was reported that Guy disliked Jonathan Harris because of that, and Guy rarely spent time or attended social functions with the other actors of the show.

The now iconic Lost in Space Robot was called B-9 So many little boys back in the 1960's wanted to be Will Robinson and too have the B-9 Robot as their friend. The Lost in Space Robot was maned from the inside by actor/funny man Bob May whom was the Life Force of the Robot's every gesture and reaction which brought the Robot to life each week and the Robot's laugh was that of Bob May. The voice and dialog spoken from the Robot was voiced by the shows' announcer Dick Tufeld The Robot was so popular and perceived as all mechanical that actor Bob May was never credited for the part while the show was on the air. Irwin Allen wanted the orig. fans to think that he was real. Decades later several people recreated the B-9 robot working prop and even crated a Club for people to join to discuss building him and where to find materials and methods etc. Actor Jonathan Harris did a One Man Show down in Australia for his many many fans and he used a working prop B-9 Robot to mix words with as they bantered back n forth. Those shows were excellent. R I P Mr. Jonathan Harris aka Dr. Smith R I P Mr. Bob May The Life Force inside the B-9 Robot R I P Mr. Dick Tufeld the voice of the Robot who would shout out "Warning, Warning Will Robinson. Aliens approaching."

I really wish they had been able to film the 2 hour TV movie with them, minus the great Guy Williams who passed away in1989, returning to earth aboard the Jupiter 2. While Lost in Space was an interesting Sci-Fi series, I thought that June Lockhart was better on Lassie as Ruth Martin (Timmy's mother). In fact, she had the look and maternal presence of one, or some authority figure, whenever she did some programs. Always loved her. Always will.

After the first season of Lost in Space, they didn't seem to have much material for June to shine. The color episodes were more about Dr. Smith, the kids, and the robot.

@@kwebster62 I suppose that explains it. I never got used to her on LIS. In fact, when June did Petticoat Junction as the doctor, I, eventually, grew to appreciate her role, although viewers complained that the death of Bea Benadaret (Kate Bradley) was what caused it to go off the air in 1970, since Benadaret was such a fixture.

I was just entering the pre-teen years when Lost in Space was introduced. I actually preferred it to Star Trek. Season 1 was great. Season 2 was ridiculous. I don't blame you one bit Mr Goddard I was 5 years old when the show came out and I was pissed and it bothered me to this day changing the script to a campie show sucked real bad. I still watched it and it was silly but and I still love it but I would have preferred that it stayed serious or at least more serious and you can tell they didn't give a s*** about the acting not that you guys can act they just didn't give you a chance to put it together. I imagine that if they hadn't done that the show would have been a super classic I mean Super Classic
@MrSteve24fps7 жыл бұрын
Blame CBS for the drastic change to the show which had to be toned down to fit the "Family Hour" standards.
@scootergreen37 жыл бұрын
I agree. They changed it to campy because Batman was heavy competition against Lost in Space. Can you believe Batman was competition against L.I.S?
@MrSteve24fps7 жыл бұрын
More so because CBS had super strict regulations as to what could be broadcast during the family hour. .Nothing too frightening or showing children in peril. Even so far as no alluding to romantic situations between Judy and Don and no physical contact between John and Maureen!!!
@thejupiter25747 жыл бұрын
+rugger digger yes I agree. Well in several interviews posted with actor Jonathan Harris it was solely his idea to change his own character from a one dimensional sinister villain to Comedic Villainy which was what Mr. Harris loved, loved to play best. From his previous acting experiences he knew in his gut that his evil character would not last long and in the Blk n Wht. episodes he started to make subtle changes. Irwin Allen noticed incoming fan mail and increase in ratings and told Harris to go with it and even gave Mr. Harris creative control of his character's lines and scenes with Bill Mumy. Harris rewrote all his lines dialog to extend and favor him. YES Irwin alien was known for recycling all the props and monster costumes reusing them over n over in other episodes and on his Voyage to the bottom of the Sea and many used in The Time Tunnel TV show as well. Lost in Space lost most of it's adult audience to Star Trek and was in competition with Batman and went total camp Mr. Harris even entertained on set visiting groups of people with kids and tourists from the trams that toured the studio's back lot from time to time. Jonathan Harris was like the ambassador to the show and loved to entertain and hold court, the kids loved him . However, the actors on the show, were very unhappy. June Lockhart said that one never walks out on a contract no mater how unhappy you are with the role because that would look horrible and haunt your career. Guy Williams was originally promised he'd be like the weekly action hero like his Disney show character Zoro defending his family. Williams and Goddard were not happy being limited in their parts and Marta Kristen was very unhappy that Irwin Allen never made good on his promise to develop the relationship between the characters Judy and Don. She was hoping they would marry.

I'm sorry, but you didn't have a chance against Star Trek. Comparisons: Lost in space, neutronium- fuel for Jupiter 2, not liquid or solid, but powder. Foot long canister, an infant could pick up. Star Trek- neutronium- core material from a dead star having a mass of 6,000,000,000 tons to the cubic inch. More than 1 foot, 80,000,000,000 metric tons. That was one of Lost in space's Capitol Achilles heels. They should have used another term for Jupiter 2's fuel. Anybody who knows astronomy and or stellar composition knows this. Star Trek also was more serious, more practical, more down to earth. I still like Lost in space, but, Star Trek wins- after all, it went on to make 5 major motion pictures, Lost in space made only 1. Impressive, but hardly competition. But, getting down to business, both series were iconic, and American. And that made them worth watching.

I've never heard that before. LIS was on 65-68, and Star Trek was on 66-69, with the pilot in 1965. CBS bought LIS, turning down Star Trek in favor of Lost in Space. By the time LIS "failed", Star Trek was just a year away from cancellation, itself.

Lost in Space was way better than Star Trek. Better stories, more action better monsters for the most part and better motion effects. Star Trek was lame with stupid-looking aliens and poor-looking motion effects and filmography. Lost In Space had some stupid looking aliens too but most were very good. Star Trek the Wrath of Khan and Star Trek the motion picture were very good and well done. Too bad they didn't make a good motion picture of L.I.S. with the real characters and authentic looking props.

Actually when Star Trek was pitched to CBS and then rejected, they had someone go through notes and raid some of the story ideas which is why some of LIS stories were warmed over Star Trek, especially in season 3.
