Great lesson there. Wire or thread tying definitely sounds like it would make the best looking jig & the longest lasting jig. I appreciate you showing closeups & sharing your tips with us. Thanks!

Excellent video! And I really like the trigger style vice!! Good pointers on technique while pointing out the benefits of each step. Plan to do more of these over the winter to tweak some designs, plus concentrating getting my soft plastics that I make to match up to specific jigs. But I’ve only used the stock banded skirts in the past, so adding hand tied skirts will really up the quality! Thanks for the pointers!!

Ben, This was the most simplest & easiest ways to tie a jig. I've seen guys use braid on a spool then wrap it 8x then tie a knot. I think this is the best way so far. 2 wraps with the wire, 8 twist to tightened it, cut off the and your sown!!!!! Now I just got to get me a vice and that #26 wire and I will try this way. I do tie some of my jigs. Stay Safe & God Bless!!

Rad video sir. I have been wanting to tie my own skirts. Here in Arizona the bands will melt if left in the car overnight or a few hours in the middle the day during the summer. I also want to pick the colors I want. Thank you for the info.

Yes and it’s a great way, once you find a few colors you like, to really customize and narrow down your jig selection

You may want to look into aviation safety wire pliers. They take just a little practice but twist the wire and cut with one tool and save your finger tips while getting the tightest twist. I promise they are worth the cost

Just started making my own finesse jigs cause I’ve not found anything I like. I think I’ve nailed it. Last few weeks throwing the jig I’ve done very well. Even won a local tournament on it yesterday.

Yes that’s what I have done too. Really been dialing in specific heads and components because I couldn’t find that “perfect” combo already on the market

Since I don't have a vice or many materials, I just make my own skirts and use one of the pre-made silicone bands. Once it's on a jig, I'll just hand tie some old braid around the top of the collar and it basically allows all of the benefits of a true wire-tied jig. I'd love to see more jig making videos!

That’s a great way to do it. Tying it your way holds it in place rock solid too! That’s not going anywhere :-)

Another way to do this is to tie it (like a fly)…I keep all my jig tying and fly tying stuff in the same place. You can actually be even more precise about placement with a few wraps of thread, adjust, tighten…add another color, adjust, tighten…repeat. I have a few patterns that are 4-5 colors and I have to imagine it would be a lot tougher to get them to fade correctly if I wasn’t tying them. The nice thing is that vices, bobbins and threads are cheaper than ever…you can buy a whole setup for less than $50 to start off then upgrade to something like a regal or renzetti if you find that it’s something you really like to do.

Do you mind if I ask what hook you are usuing in the weedless sparkie jig?? It looks like you are usuing a different hook than what the mold calls for, (eagle claw 410) I am super interested as I'm not a fan of the 410......thank you. I saw you on my buddy Sean's live stream Reel Northern Bass....you were awesome, hope to see you do it again!!

Great Info... Been doing it for years. Also, Most of the Factory skirt collars have a bad reaction to your jig trailers ! So, Get rid of all those lousy rubber skirt collars !

Where do you buy the 26G wire at. Walmart did carry green but now just silver and some ugly ass color. We did make all our jigs about 15 years ago. DEVORCE made me quit a lot of things. Now I'm fishing with my son and enjoying it better then ever.

Wenn du schon einen Bindestock benutzt, dann nimm doch einen Bobbin um deine Skirtlegs und Livingrubber einzubinden, da kannst du noch viel präziser und genauer arbeiten. Deine Muster würden noch viel schöner aussehen.
