Seriously, is ur mom ex military? I was in the Army, in my twenties and my OCD served me well. I had no problem being ordered to roll my socks into 4” balls or hv my locker all “dress right dress”. I thought it was funny that my behavioral disorder made rigid details “an everyday thing -normal”. Thanks for all the work you and your Mom did. It’s funny cuz I hadn’t completely watched all of this video, as I wrote the first part , so… when your Mom showed her To Do list, I lol. I do that too❣️ When I am doing a complicated meal, with lots of components, I create a time line that runs backwards. I start with #1 when I want to serve or eat, then cook times for each item. I write a draft first so I can more easily pencil in the time line, adjusting along the process. Then, you can put each item onto a chronological ordered To Do list. I keep a Master Copy for future reference, when cooking large proteins like Prime Rib, Smoking a Pork Butt or cooking a whole Turkey. It all sounds kindda complicated, but for me it reduces a lot of stress and frustration. You only hv to figure it out one time, then those “directions” will guide any future efforts. Cooking for two or for 20 doesn’t have to be stressful, if you “try” to plan away the stressful parts. We aren’t born knowing how to cook, or clean, or garden. We hv to learn from our mistakes and keep the desire to try differently next time. 🙂

You should have your mom join you in your videos more often. She has so many great ideas and she is a very calming influence. Puts me at ease and helps me chill. Preparing and hosting a big dinner on can be very stressful, but it helps if you deep breathe from the diaphragm and slow down your delivery of speech and recognize that it will all get done regardless of whether you spin like a top in a frenzy or chill like a leader in charge who gets things done calmly and methodically.

I think your mom did great on the video - first time I've seen her. I really like how organized you both are and that what you do makes so much sense. I am the queen of lists and I bow down to your Mama’s organization skills!! This is a great video, I loved seeing you and your Mama working together to bless your families with a delicious feast! I do miss working in sync with my Mama, but I do so love working with my daughters! We each have our specialties that we bring to share. You were pondering why you only think to eat stuffing once a year…it’s so you have something special to look forward to! There are several dishes and desserts that we save for only Thanksgiving and Christmas. I love that one of my daughter’s MIL decided long ago to celebrate their holidays the weekend prior to holidays. I think she was really forward thinking in that most woman go to their Mama’s for holidays, so she enjoys her son’s families every year even if it is a week early! This has worked great for our kids’ Friendsgiving feasts, too. When my Mama passed away, my sisters and I had to figure out how to recreate her specialties. So, I have in my recipe notebook not only my recipes, shopping and ingredients all listed out, every year I make notes of what worked well, what didn’t, ideas to try next year and any tweaks done or ideas I want to remember for next year. And, not to be morbid, but should I leave this earth unexpectedly, I hope that my notes will be a comfort and a prompt for good memories of past years. Oh, and I am going to start charting timetables like your Mama does, too! Thanks for sharing!!

I think for as long as you choose to be a KZfaqr, I will watch, primarily because I so appreciate that when something doesn't turn out just right, YOU STILL SHARE IT. I love that! Real home cooks have things that don't turn out perfectly and they get to learn from that. I mean, don't get me wrong...you get much more right and much more right than I do, but it was encouraging to see real life results. Makes me less fearful of trying. I buy Stove top stuffing by the case from Costco. I get two cs which last me one year. I sauté celery, onion and garlic in the butter (amount recommended on the pkg). Add some poultry seasoning for that extra holiday flavoring. Then toss in bread crumbs and cook as directed. Every time we go to Costco or Sam’s Club, we get 1 or 2 rotisserie chickens. I always fix Stove Top and pull out cranberry sauce from the freezer or a can from the pantry. So yes, you can enjoy stuffing all year long. 🥰🥰

Although we don't have thanksgiving in my country this video made me start planning Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals - we don't have cranberries here, so our seasonal fruits of choice are mangoes, cherries, pineapple, passionfruit, and stonefruits. Whatever else see have will definitely include stuffing which is different to the American version and lots of seafood like crayfish/lobster, prawns etc! I hope Gizmo is doing better and lots of buttons were undone after the meal - Happy Thanksgiving for today as well!

I think the reason the favorite Thanksgiving dish is the dressing/stuffing is because people only have it once a year. As a child, we only had it once a year, and it was my favorite. Now I make it about 8 times per year. It's no longer my favorite dish on Thanksgiving. 🥰 Happy Thanksgiving to the Acre Homestead family!

Ohhh Becky, thank you so very much for letting us join you as you prepare your Thanksgiving feast! I really appreciate it because of the memories it brings me cooking with my dear Mom! We used to have wonderful feasts too although we were 100% LESS organized than you two! Everybody's gone now and it's just me here so I picked up dinner at a restaurant and watched your terrific video! You are an inspiration!! I hope your sweet Gizmo is all better now! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones and to everyone who watches this channel!! Hugs!

I totally enjoy watch u and your mother in the kitchen. Your mother is a good organizer military oriented. I have a daughter a lil older than u but did not like to cook or bake when she was younger. Now she has 2 daughters of her own and is teaching them. I used every chance I got during summer vacations with me their Nana to teach them when they were lil. Now they enjoy sharing this time with their mom. You and your mom need to do more videos.

And teaching me a thing or two while you were at it 😄 It must be SO awesome to have so much money to spend on this fine meal and the proper tools needed to prepare it all, a big loving family and both parents still living healthy and happy ❤ That sounds sarcastic but it’s truly not. It’s sincere. It really must be sublime! Don’t ever take any of it for granted. I’ve never had any of the things you have but I’ve always been very happy for ppl who do ☺️👍🏼 Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🍽 🦃🍁

Regarding stuffing, I always make a huge batch, usually 4x the amount and then freeze several individual servings so I can have it with different meals, it doesn’t always have to be eaten with poultry, when I reheat it, I usually just add a small amount of my home made broth that I freeze in ice cube trays for small servings such as this

My parents, my children, and siblings and their families celebrate all our holidays together. I send a text asking everyone what they are going to be cooking, and I include options for them. We also start shopping a month before the holidays, and purchase Thanksgiving and Xmas supplies at the same time. We also start cooking two weeks before the holiday. I make the filling for the pies, freeze it until I am ready to bake the pies. I like the ideal of putting the recipes on the cabinets. I usually pull out the recipes I am going to use from my binders. This includes a new recipe for a new dish, I introduce every holiday or dishes I only make on the holidays. The idea of using post it notes for the platters and bowls is another good idea.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video ! It's really inspiring ! For the pumpkin pie, to make it even easier you can make your pumpkin puree ahead by simply cutting it in half and baking it in the oven at 350°F (cut side down) for 40-60 min. Then I just keep it in the freezer and take it out the day before or in the morning.

Is that really all pumpkin puree is? To make it too, just cut in half, put facedown on pan & roast. Thats it?!? Lol. All this darn time ive wasted, wishing to find canned pumpkin puree & i couldve made it, sigh smh. Lol.
@MrsOhlalaland
@MrsOhlalaland 2 жыл бұрын
@@sarahmellouk3754 i thought the exact same thing when I found out about this hack. I just make a bunch of pumpkin when it’s the season and then I have pumpkin puree for the rest of the year. If the puree is too runny, you just have to put it in a strainer and let the extra moisture drip. I freeze it flat in a ziplock bag.

Felt the same when I realised oat milk was just oats blended with water, applesauce was pureed steamed apple chunks. And now pumpkin puree has also been demystified, thanks to you!
@johnhpalmer6098

@@sarahmellouk3754 Indeed, then add the appropriate spices for the pie filling to that puree and put it into a pie shell and you have pie, once you've baked it. This way, you aren't having to cut, deseed, then bake before it gets pureed and can lessen the rush/stress of baking a lot of things in one day. It's amazing how many things you can do parts of the day before, or at times, weeks before and simply freeze, and one of those is the pie dough if not mistaken, just wrap in Saran Wrap, then into a freezer bag and freeze, once you make into a "hockey puck" shape before wrapping, or simply lay it on plastic wrap, then grab the plastic and form the pucks with it before wrapping up, saves a step there.

Thank you for sharing your family's celebration 💖 I hope you had a wonderful time together. In the UK, we eat stuffing throughout the year because in most households it's traditional on Sundays to have roast meat & veg for lunch or dinner.

I love watching you two work together! ❤ when I could eat gluten, I kept homemade stuffing seasoning mix in a jar on the pantry. It had dried minced onion, dried celery flakes (dried celery leaves), dried sage, thyme and parsley. I would dry the heels of loaves of bread cut into cubes and throw it in a bag in the pantry. It's a carb thing!!

This was really heartwarming to see Becky! I’ve never cooked a holiday meal with my Mom, but this made me want to spend the day prepping together! We usually divide up the list of foods to be prepared, with mine being most of the baking, since my own family prefers homemade rolls and pies over the store-bought ones my Mom would buy. This year we contributed sides/desserts to my parents’ meal, and the next day I made another meal to share with friends. Thank you for sharing your turkey rub recipe; I tried it for my turkey this year, and you were right, it does take your turkey up a notch (or five)! Not only for the turkey itself, but my turkey soup was so much more flavorful this year! My husband and younger son are not soup lovers like me, but my husband wanted me to freeze some for a later meal rather than pass it on to my parents. They had already made turkey soup with the carcass from their turkey, so I’m happy to share some of my turkey enchiladas instead. I love how you embrace canning, freezing, cooking from scratch, gardening, and encouraging others on how they can be more self sufficient while eating healthier REAL FOOD. So many people have given up on the skills of older generations of homemakers! I find this so sad. Thanks for inspiring us all!

I loved watching you cook with your Mom! Until last year, we always did Thanksgiving with my family and Christmas with the Hubby’s. We always spent the whole weekend with Mom and Dad and we all cooked and had a blast. My Hubby ended up with a new job in 2020 in a different State, so we haven’t been able to spend the holidays with the family since. I lived vicariously through you, today! 🥰
