it is said that people that dies with ebola, their bodies are practically... a bag of blood, trust me, its horrible for the people that have to work with their bodies for further research, at least in africa there is still scientist dying of that, i'd never work with that even for a lot of money, just think how expensive is the blood of the people who became inmunne, and there is just no more than 10 around the world, its just impressive, if there is an assassin virus, is the ebola, the most dangerous virus of all, and since genetically speaking it is a chimera of VIH and other viruses, the protein expression of his genes are pretty much a mix between different proteins of other viruses, vih and others

those are not "that" deadly viruses, they are just fucking contagious and easy to get, the more people they infect, the more people they can try to kill. Ebola almost surely kills, but is not that contagious, and a virus cant kill if it cant get people infected.

It's not that all the examples are inherently more deadly, don't worry. They are more common, they transmit easier and infect more people, which increases cases and in turn increases deaths. Even the least dangerous sicknesses will kill more people if they infect more.

At a U2 concert in Glasgow, Bono asks the audience for some quiet. Then in the silence, he starts to slowly clap his hands. Holding the audience in total silence, he says into the microphone, 'Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies.' A voice from near the front pierces the silence: 'Well, stop clapping your fucking hands then!'

A number of people have asked how 4/10 people survive Ebola infections. I thought I'd try and answer this best I can. First without treatment the survival rate is much lower, closer to 8/10 - 9/10 die. The current treatment we have is rehydration therapy. This helps with the loss of fluids that the virus causes. Other therapies are being developed but rehydration is still the best we have and is still lacking in certain regions. Aside from treatment the remaining 1/10 or 2/10 probably survive due to a mixture of genetics and luck. There are a few genetic reasons a person might be resistant to the infection, ranging from not having an optimum receptor on the cell for the virus to attach too. Downstream differences in cell to cell commutation that means their immune systems are slightly different. These differences might mean that the immune system gets a few extra hours/days it needs to overcome the infection (probably by producing antibodies to the virus). The other way is luck, there are a whole bunch of things that could impact how the virus spreads, from the initial number of viral particles the person gets infected with too which cell they infect first. Let's say the virus infects a cell which is at the end of its natural life and commits apoptosis (cell death) just as viral replication is about to start. This again for give the immune system that little bit of extra time it needs to mount an attack. Also a 'cool' thing about Ebola is that is plays around with two separate systems of the immune system which normally regulate each other by feedback mechanisms. If the immune system manages to start the correct mechanisms and feed backs before the virus can really get a grip it could potentially fight off the virus. Finally one of the effects of Ebola as shown in the video is a depletion of immune cells. If for any reason (such as the ones I given) enough immune cell survive then a person has a better chance of surviving. I hope that helps and feel free to ask any follow up!

Given it mucks around with the immune system so much, does it mean that the body is seriously vulnerable to other infections? Similar to someone undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
@JimtheEvo
@JimtheEvo 9 жыл бұрын
The short answer would be "Yes! I think so!". That said I haven't seen any direct reports of multiple infections happening but that is probably due to a number of factors. Such as people dying awfully quickly once infection take hold. Either way the number of immune cells left would be depleted by the infection. But the modular nature of the immune system would also mean that survivors would not be as vulnerable as say a chemo patient. Chemo kills more without discrimination, ebola (and other virus such as HIV) kill specific parts of the immune system. One cool correlation we know of is cytokine storms can also happen in influenza cases. It is likely that Cytokine storms are what made the 1918 flu so deadly. But it is only half the story, what seems to have kicked off the Cytokine storms was a co-infection between the flu virus and a bacteria that typically is not very deadly. It is remarkable that almost a 100 years on we still do not fully understand why the 1918 flu was so deadly. It was also more deadly for the fit and young, which some say is evidence that the Cytokine storm was the real driver of mortality. Being fit and young means you have a fit immune system and as the video here says, the fitter the immune system the more damage it can do to itself.

Thanks alot, good I searched for your answer before simply putting a question out :) I didn't know there were any other infactions apart from HIV that targetet the imune system. Also I think they both are only transferable through liquids, lucky for that.

All things considered, this is one of the most brilliant strategies any virus could adopt. This is also why this is one of the scariest things in the world to have. As a former EMT with some nurse buddies, I can tell you that Ebola scares the living daylights out of us whenever someone mentions it. Like with the cold, while it can easily spread and chances of a healthy adult dying from it is low, ebola isn't like that. While thankfully it doesn't have an extreme infection rate, no matter if you are healthy or in the best hospital in the States, the fatality rate has always been roughly 50%. Amongst EMS, we joke around that the best way to treat Ebola is to not have it at all.

Original Comment: Wrong, you can get Ebola from STDs, direct contact, and contaminated objects. /\ is the comment people are replying to, then I acknowledged I was wrong and wrote this: Edited Comment: To expand you can also get Ebola from direct contact, though fluid contact works better, and contaminated objects. /\ I tried to fix my mistake but accidentally came off as malicious, trying to make people look wrong and myself right. This isn't true, rather I was saying, "what I wrote was stupid, and you guys were right". I also never intended to insult ***** , rather point something I believed right out, and my second comment literally just gives expanded information. Icarus wingsofsteel Andrew Henniges thank you for pointing out I was wrong, and for giving me more knowledge. Now Icarus wingsofsteel I am not trying to hide whatsoever, or insult anybody.

What I really want to know is how a person becomes healthy naturally after being infected. In those 4 out of 10, what does the immune system do to finally fight off the virus?
@rolanpapazyan2668
@rolanpapazyan2668 4 жыл бұрын
My guess would be the receptors through which ebola enters the healthy immune system cells. Some people might have slightly different receptors due to genetic differences which would make it harder for ebola to infect healthy cells and eventually immune system would come on top. Again, just a guess so better look it up!

@@rolanpapazyan2668 I mean, dehydration would kill you first for Ebola. In fact, using IV was better and WHO recommended it, but Red Cross deemed giving water since we had limited resources to set up IV when there were huge number of patients. That alone saved a lot of patients as IV meant we could treat far fewer patients. Now, we do have a vaccine against Ebola and there is still an outbreak going on for Ebola in DRC. Except it isn't as contagious (spreads by bodily fluids rather than airbone helps a lot), and we have a vaccine to slowly eradicate it. Coronavirus is far more infectious. Though, in both cases, coronavirus and ebola spread from animals to humans. Diseases tend to mild over time (though don't count on that for coronavirus since it will take a really long time). Smallpox was a bit of an exception. It too killed too quickly before it can spread and it should have died out. But, more people were moving in than were dying, causing the disease to be around for so long. On the plus news, smallpox is eradicated. We have 2 sets of vaccines (one uses live attenuated vaccines, which can have a serious, but rare, complications especially in people with weakened or compromised immune systems. The other uses virus that has been cultured and mutated so long it lost its ability to infect human cells, but since it doesn't create that much of a stimulus for the immune system, you need multiple booster doses). But, if you notice, very few people get these (only some who handle labs that store these remaining samples of the virus, those in CDC, vets and other people who handle monkeypox (like how cowpox was similar enough to protect against smallpox, smallpox vaccine is sufficient to protect against monkeypox), and some parts of the military to handle bioterrorism) although the vaccine is around. We just can't test their safety or efficacy since, you know, smallpox is eradicated and there are no new cases of them ever to do human trials in. So, it is approved, but it's not given (though it doesn't matter since the virus is basically eradicated except for samples in vaccines and labs) Measles was next until the vaccine hesitancy (antivaxxers) got involved. Measles is worse since it fits the true definition of airborne and is extremely contagious. It also can cause serious complications, and *will wipe out all your immunity to diseases*. Polio, which could cause paralysis, requiring in some cases iron lungs, etc is nearly eradicated though cases still remain.

@Lalo, depends which strain. Ima take SEBOV as a example. After the cytokine storm if you survive, the immune system might learn to beat it, a medium IS is best. The remnants of the IS will quickly start multiplying crazily. After some time, the immune system gets antibodies. The bone marrow, left unaffected, keeps producing blood cells. All mature cells are released ASAP and cell defense mechs activate. Less ebola viruses can infect cells, as interferons are active. The immune system now can do a punch against Ebola. The symptoms get better, except internal bleeding. If your fever and rash dissapear, you would most likely live.
