Let's look into some of the first-ever footage taken in Texas and Galveston. This is some of the earliest film to ever be recorded. We can thank Thomas Edison and his company for sending his assistants to Galveston just days after the devastating 1900 Storm. They captured historic footage of the island in 1900 after the nation's deadliest natural disaster.
Please check out the Library of Congress and the Texas Archive Of The Moving Image for more information and the full set of footage taken by Edison's assistants.

This is an incredible collection of videos. Thank you for walking us through them and helping us better understand the days right after The Great Storm.

As a historian, I applaud you on this video. It is amazing and gives so much history without saying much. Definetly useful in my research on Galveston as well. Thank you!

Great video. A very poignant subject, but worth telling. I think the Pan. of Wreckage at the Waterfront (second part) was at 25th and Harborside (Water St.). There's a building in the background at about 7:46 in the video that resembles a building that used to stand next to the Hutchings-Sealy building, so I figure they were filming about a block away.

My husband's great grandfather was shot by Thomas Edison's hired thug. Edison stole his patent ( like he did from so many ) in NJ.1895 . Mr. Morrin took Edison to court and won. Edison was Not happy. He hired a 22 year old painter out of Ky. to shot Mr. Morrin . Morrin never met the kid and the fact that 2 Lawyers for this kid were Edison's lawyers. Morrin won that case also and the kid got 10 yrs and $10,000.00 fine and the lawyers were taking this kid back to Ky and he was declared Insane. The place this kid was at burned down a few weeks later. No need for this kid anymore. I found a few of these types of stories . Edison was Not the man History talks about. Mr. Morrin died 4 years later. Your work is Wonderful thank you.
