Though a bit exaggerated, it is based on fact and the characters (although there are some fictional ones) are real historical figures who appear in Japanese history textbooks.

I've been following this series since literally week one of the manga and you are in for a ride my friend. While the series is based on true events, its also extremely fictionalized for the sake of entertainment. That said, although the author plays fast and loose with all the vague details, all of the major events that have happened in the manga thus far did actually happen in real life.

@@TheNerdyverse-DannyReacts If you like Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon type stuff you'll like this, but you'll also appreciate the tonal whiplash when it goes from bloodshed and battles to really silly absurdist humor that works only in manga/animation.

This is giving me Kingdom vibes. I enjoy the story and love the characters, but I know enough of history to know how much of the story will have to play out. I don't know Tokiyuki, but the Ashikaga Shogunate lasted from the mid 14th century to when Nobunaga overthrew it at the 16th century. That doesn't bode well for the kid in the long term.

I am sorry if it is rude or inappropriate to you, since I use the online translation site. It may seem cruel to modern people, but in Japan from the 11th to 16th centuries, enemy heads were like trophies, and those who earned the most enemy heads received a promotion or a bonus. (For the wives and daughters of samurai, it was an important task to clean the heads of enemies that their husbands and fathers had brought home.) (Shishkebab's man must have gotten a lot of bonuses.)
