A lake in the west of Ireland has a reputation for young people disappearing there. Young Roderich Keating loses his newly acquired wedding ring there when he shows it to friends. But none of his friends will help him retrieve the ring from the enchanted lake. The foolish, innocent Paddin is the only one who dares to dive for it in exchange for a few gold coins. He ends up in a wondrous land where he finds the drowned youths working and singing to the beautiful lady of the house. Eventually he meets her. However, she is a fat and ugly witch and is happy that Paddin can now stay with her...
This humorous and light-hearted fairy tale in the style of old Irish legends is a tribute by the Brothers Grimm to Irish culture and well worth a look.
