Clancy Brown is an absolutely amazing actor. His voice, facial expresses, body movements, and genuine ability to bring a unique taste to a unique character he portrays is excellent. Sgt. Zim is one of my all-time favorite characters in any movie. I thought Starship Troopers should have kept Sgt. Zim in the sequels.

anyone who said "bugs don't have hands / fingers" forgot that at this point in the movie there was no war between humans and bugs. Not even any act of war. So they weren't trained only for bugs :)

@@bobbynickens310 It's the one thing about the movie that makes no sense in relation to the book. In the book the bugs are intelligent aliens with ships so it makes sense they could redirect an asteroid, but in the movie they're just insects so there is no way they would be able to do that. The theory of humans attacking their own city only works in the movie. And in the book there is also a 3rd race of aliens so it would make sense for this kind of training. There are a few remnants in the movie from when it was going to be closer to the book.

Not really the test they took that put them in the different branches would separate the really big outside the box thinkers into one of the officer branches or schools like Karl or basically flag them as not a good fit for the military ace was more or less borderline he followed orders he just like to know the purpose so some lession is more or less do now ask later

Funny thing is, compared to the book, this training was easy. There were no stupid troopers, each one was a mobile army. Master Chief would be jealous of their kit.

Amazing how Paul Verhoeven was able to get away with making us believe that stabbing a hand clean through tendons and bone will still allow someone to flex their digits as if they only got a scratch. But hey.. It's alright, they called for a medic so he'll be right as rain in no time! 👍

On a recent rewatch, it was at this point in the film that I realized: at no point during their training do they show the recruits how to fight bugs. It's a very subtle way of conveying how soldiers can be set up for disaster long before their boots hit the battlefield.

Ele não é cruel, apenas severo com o treinamento. Na verdade, ele é um dos personagens mais legais com os outros do filme (ajudando o Rico na cena das chicotadas e se auto rebaixando para poder lutar na guerra). No filme fica subentendido que procedimentos médicos são muito mais modernos do que os existentes hoje. Sem contar que também é treinamento para os próprios médicos.

It's a kind of democracy what was in XIX in Greate Britain. In GB and same like in USA only owners have voting rights. In Sapceship troopers only citizens. Its very easy be citizen much easier than be owner, You dont have money, you only need voluntarily to military service. No matter you are from slams, or milioneir or celebrity. Ot's not closed like in Sparta. Your kids are residents so if thier wana be politicians they have did military service, ver simple, very equal. Even if for you reisdents are slaves they can very easly unslave just making military service. Before war against aliens military service was very easy, global government, no countries, only one Earth Federation, no wars. Proces of globalization was already done.

Combat training is to prepare for diff possible scenarios. Like eg: you need immediately react, but you have to reload/are out of ammo. And the point is: you can use throwing to disable an opponent's limb...
