Ennio Morricone was one of the most legendary film composers EVER, especially in the western/spaghetti western genre (if you've ever heard the iconic opening theme to the movie 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, then you have heard Morricone's work).
In this video, we will explore some of the most important tricks Morricone used during his career to make his music so iconic and memorable and how you can use those same tricks in your music.

Morricone's "Gabriel's Oboe" from the Mission is, to me, one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed.

There's a shocking lack of contents on youtube about Ennio Morricone's work that analyses his work, you might be the first one actually, thanks for scratching the surface, that was valuable information, I really hope somebody puts the effort to go deep. I really loved some of his darker pieces that aren't very well known to international audience such as: - Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (main theme) - La piovra (main theme from 1992) The latter used to scare me when I was a child, my parents loved that show but as soon as I heard those aggressive strings and that low piano note I would run in my bed, it's still scary actually.

Hmm... perhaps this explains why my quick and easy pieces seem to fare better on KZfaq's algorithm than ones I spend weeks on. 🤔 Thanks for the info, as always!

Grazie, Tommaso! He was a master in make specific intervals so memorable, like the 6th intervals in _Once Upon a Time in the West_ Your analysis about simplicity made me think about a Charles Bukowski quote "Genius might be the ability to say a profound thing in a simple way." Thank you again!

Everything you said here spot on, and the bit about orchestration especially rings true. For example, so much of John Williams’s music feels interchangeable to me as a result of the orchestration, but you can really feel the intention of all the different colors of the instruments Morricone chose. As an oboist, this man really knew how to get the best tone out of oboes and English horns, in particular

YESSSS!!!! More Morricone please :) Specifically any overview or in depth analysis of Deborah's theme or (even better) Cinema Paradiso Love Theme would be greatly appreciated!

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Miklos Rozsa. I've gotten a lot of inspiration from both Rozsa and Morricone in my playing the hammered dulcimer...yeah, I'm autistic. At least it's not a theremin...

And what exactly is wrong with the theremin? In the movies, it's often used as a "special effect", but it can be used like any other instrument. One of the first masters was Clara Rockwell (who studied with Theremin). Here, she plays "The Swan" while her sister accompanies her on piano: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jsp2hrhp2NSXnaM.html&ab_channel=MoogMusicInc

Sorry, gotta be that guy, you need to use a lapel mic or something to get the mic'ing closer with less room ambiance, as the sound here is all over the place and unless I ride the volume on my listening device, I'm missing sections of what's being said.
