Zyrother, you are always leaving behind such great comments that I had to reply! so, yeah, like you say and like Justin Peterson suggested, it is not outside the realm of possibility that Criterion will enter the 4K market, but it is still not certain and I personally am not sure. If they do, will they start a whole new spine number system? My sense is no, and that Criterion will just continue with spine numbering, just as the DVDs and blu rays are lumped together into one unified numbering system. What do you think? (And yes, CC might end up stopping DVDs altogether, but the spine numbering will not be affected in such a hypothetical scenario. What do you think?)

Yeah, I think that they will continue with the current spine system if they get into UHD. DVDs must still be selling well, otherwise no studio would be producing them, Criterion included. I love the format, dont get me wrong, but Blu-ray is 12 years old and DVD is 21. And maybe DVD will stick around for as long as physical media exists. The Eclispe series by Criterion is a perfect example, as those films do not have surviving material that is suitable for Blu-ray. But Standard definition content on Blu-rays(SD Blu-ray) has worked very well for TV shows and anime, I could very much see that be the future.

Some but not all the tracks require accreditation, but all tracks are royalty free for use on KZfaq. But my sense is that it is certainly not outside the realm of possibility, though who is to say how the market will shape itself in a few years time due to the advancements in streaming services. What do you think?

Criterion is dedicated to providing the highest quality, but I feel 4K is still very much a niche format for high end home theater enthusiasts. Bluray offers great quality so I am fine with them continuing to focus on brining the whole collection to that format. The interesting part will come in with newer films getting 4K releases like 'Isle of Dogs', will that then only come to the collection as a Bluray in a few years. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Personally I would love to see Criterion come out with a 4K Robocop Steelbook. Cheers!

Hello! I am on vacation now, but I just had to reply to this. So, I am happy to hear your comment. So reading it, it makes me realize that it really depends on how widespread 4K ends up becoming. If it becomes more of an accepted thing (say in terms of things like broadcasting, etc.) then it might be something worthwhile to pursue as a format for cinema home viewing. But, my own personal view is that I am still not sure. As for steelbooks... if Criterion got into the business of steelbooks (like with other lables like Masters of Cinema, etc.) that would be very interesting indeed. That would be a a great idea too... having a ROBOCOP steelbook!!! Wow. You should email Criterion with that great idea!

Yes. I have been very fortunate in that way. However that also means that I have not seen a lot of other films, such as many recent releases in the theaters, due to my personal schedule.
