The way she spoke to Hagrid had my blood boiling. He was so excited to show the class threstrals and she was just trying to make him look stupid. I absolutely love the care of magical creatures class so her essentially bullying Hagrid to make foul kids laugh really got under my skin.

I'd like to point out the fact that it was clearly stated in the book that Umbridge sent the Dementors to *silence* Harry. She never thought an unqualified wizard could conjure a Patronus Charm. Her plan would have succeeded hadn't if Lupin decided to give Harry anti-Dementor lessons. She was disappointed that he did not get Kissed, but she overall did the job : he "illegally" performed magic outside of school in the presence of a muggle.

I think the reason why most hate umbridge more the Voldemort is that we've all had that one teacher or boss. The one who gives extra detention, harshly grades your work. Doesn't show any appreciation for hard work. Writes you up for nothing. Just a general pain to be around. Voldemort is the evil we wish to never face but umbridge is the evil we face every day.

I despise Umbridge, but it's undeniable that Imelda Staunton played that character with absolute perfection.

I think the main reason Umbridge is the most hated character is that because she's a realistic character. You can't find people like Voldemort or Bellatrix anywhere, but you can find Umbridge everywhere, in school, at work, in a grocery store. Studying to be a director and a writer, I learned about creating and analyzing villains, the most hated ones are the ones most realistic. Umbridge doesn't need magic to be a pain in the neck, unlike Voldemort who is basically dependent on magic to maintain his power, even his life. Umbridge is your everyday annoying neighbor, a teacher you never liked, that lady at the grocery store who feels entitled to do whatever she wants. Personally, I don't think of her being worse than Voldemort, Umbridge would never kill a baby, despite her actions, but still, she is the most feared, disliked and most realistic villain in the franchise and without her, I don't think the fans would realize her quite realistic power in their every day world.

Okay, so I have been thinking this for a while now, it's kind of a shower thought if you would say, but you have to admit that Dolores Umbridge did one good thing throughout the series, albeit unintentionally. You have got to hear me out on this. Remember Dudley Dursley was a spoiled brat in Philosopher's Stone and for the next few books that we see him, he has been doing horrible things such as smoking and just being a big bully? Well, in the sixth and seventh books he is no longer a bully mainly because the dementors reflect the horrors that Dudley had inflicted in the neighborhood. We also knew that ~20 chapters after that dementor attack it was Dolores Umbridge who sent these dementors after Harry and Dudley. So, by sending dementors at Harry and Dudley, Umbridge taught Dudley a lesson for bullying and bad habits. Just let this sink in for a while. And that is the one good thing that Umbridge has done throughout the series. If something doesn't make sense, let me know. I'm free on opinions.

I think Umbridge and Bellatrix are the most evil characters in HP, besides Voldemort. Umbridge's father, who's a pure blood, raised her from a young age with the same pro pure blood beliefs that she has as an adult. So really, her father planted her way of thinking into her mind, and she embraced those beliefs/values fully even from a young age when her and her father disowned Umbride's mother who's a muggle and her squib brother. Bellatrix was raised by her parents with pro pure bloods values just like Umbridge's father raised her with, except the black family's pro pure blood beliefs were more extreme and Umbridge embraced those values she was taught by her father on a more extreme level, like Bellatrix did. Both Umbridge and Bellatrix has/had the same values/beliefs and really, are quite similar to each other because of that. Also, they're both very similar because they're both murderers and like to cause suffering/pain onto others. Many of the innocent muggleborns Umbridge sent to Azkaban did not survive their time there and although we know Bellatrix killed Sirius and Tonks, i'm sure Bellatrix has killed plenty of others along with her usual torturing which she loved to do, with the Cruciatus curse which was her favorite spell.

Umbridge is one of the most evil characters in this entire franchise. Imelda Staunton did such an amazing job with her performance as this character that you wouldn’t be able to tell that she’s actually a nice person. Umbridge is just as evil as Voldemort if not more evil than he is. She might be even more evil that she could give him a run for his money.

The only thing I like about the newer additions to the lore, post Deathly Hallows, is that we know she went to Azkaban. The only thing that made that experience a bit more bearable was that the dementors were no longer there.

When ever you have doubt on who's the most evil person in Harry Potter, just remember one thing. Voldemort still had a soul to make horcruxes with.

Usually, when something bad happens to the worst characters in the ending, I still feel some amount of sympathy. But Umbridge? She's next level and this is the one time where I feel a character did not get enough punishment. I mean, yes she was sent to Azkaban, but to be fair, she tormented people so much, the dementors should have stayed in Azkaban

I wish they’d make the books into a television series. So they could properly tell the stories in the book more in depth. They had to remove so much vital information in the movies. I know everyone would have a hard time seeing new actors playing these characters, but if it’s done right it would work. I’ve seen it work before. I think it would be a great. I could actually see Tom holland as Harry Potter too. They have a lot of similarities.

This is a real relevant modern day allegory. The open predictable villain is often better because you can learn how to defeat or at least neutralize him. The truly evil and treacherous villain is the one who feigns virtue and reigns destruction while pretending it is for your on good. Always be wary of the powerful authority that seizes more control for themselves and sets up specials rules because their work is important and for the greater good.

I always think that Umbridge is really the worst, worse than Voldemort. I mean he really was incomplete what with his parents conceiving under the influence of Amorentia, which caused him unable to feel any kind of love or kinship. Umbridge was relatively normal and yet managed to be this evil. Bellatrix was a part of Black family, who always was concerned about blood purity. She grew up with it. Umbridge was never influenced by that all the time in her childhood. This proves that she became evil of her own accord, not under any kind of evil, which makes her even worse than Voldemort!!
