If i remember early lore correctly, this is the aftermath of world war 3. The remaining people got infected with an unknown virus and it wasnt clear, if it was a consequence of the radiation or the biochemical weapons used in ww3. Infected people died within 7 days and got reanimated as zombies, wich the game name originated. Navezgane, was one of the last inhabitable regions of the world and youre playing a survivor in this zombie infested land.

the fact higashis test tubes had wights, and wights are found in military bases as "military" spawns, makes me think it was clearly a bioweapon.

I honestly didn't know there was any story at all to this game.. I have no idea about environmental story telling or any of this stuff.. so its really interesting to see they actually did add a bit of a story at least to the game.

A tier 5 Higashi Clear almost broke me 😅 Had Zombies that wouldn't spawn in until I went out on a random window ledge area on a random floor. When I finally finished it hours later, my motorcycle disappeared. I had no other vehicle. Had to walk a couple thousand Kilos back to Joel... Fought 2 screamer hordes and zombie bears. Motorcycle reappeared the next day in front of the Higashi building.

Great video. I recently have been doing my own sleuthing in Navazgane and was coming up with similar conclusions. Telling my fellow players in various playthroughs about the underlining story always blows their minds. Funny how so few people catch on to these hints. Anyways nice to have your video to send to people for a quick recap on the bits of info we have currently.

4:56 That's the greek letter Lambda (Λ/λ), and not Alpha (Α/α); which should've had the horizontal line. And the other letter is Omicron (Ο/ο), instead of Omega (Ω/ω). But you could argue that those are simply the latin letters "A" and "O" and the Lambda is just a stylized "A".

So, having played since 2014 there have been many revisions of POIs and the artwork. For example, there used to be a lake cabin with a multi-level human experimentation lab under it. But having played entirely too long I was under the impression that there was some sort of epidemic which spurred on dramatic and aggressive experimentation/research which went wrong and became the zombie virus. This was all well before 2020 so not sure if they are sticking with that kind of lore. I am also unsure if those 'hidden lab' POIs still exist

The Fun Pimps have stated that official lore is on their list to finalize before they finally complete Alpha. So there will be an answer.

The problem with the Higashi labs and the underground research facilities at the home being efforts to combat the virus is that all of those facilities take a ton of time to construct and a lot of materials as well as manpower. Even the staffing required takes time, with the concurrent need for housing and basic services support for the workforce in the facility. In light of this, the theory that these are created to try to stop the virus doesn't hold up. That this lab has been in existence for years and is a major employer in the area is far more realistic. That they are doing research into the virus is obvious - but with what intention is murky. Bombing a seaport outside the outbreak zone in an effort to contain virus spread internationally is also not effective or likely as seaports move goods and not people. There are 3 major Pacific US seaports and more in other Pacific Rim countries. The explosion is not necessarily in the US. Preventing the international spread of illness would be airport focused as this is the most used form of transporting humans. As Navaganze has no airport, only a series of Helipads, we don't really know why the explosion occurred. A nuclear explosion is most likely a military, although a suitcase nuke deployed by a non governmental organization is also possible. The destruction of a seaport is more likely to be about the destroying of cargo or inhibiting the bulk resupply of an area with needed goods. Higashi means "east" in both Japanese and Chinese kanji as well as a type of Wagashi (traditional Japanese confection served with green tea). We could infer that choosing the name Higashi for the research labs is a clue as to internationally based powers working in the US. Instead of us shipping our bioresearch out of country, other countries are shipping theirs here and having done so for a long time. Given the need for permits and other regulations for constructions of this size, this is not unknown to the officials in Navaganze county or Arizona State. A more interesting story would be the scaling competition of foreign research companies that releases the virus (either as an accident during a sabotage or on purpose as an intended small scale sabotage), an attempted coverup, a scramble to promote a 'cure' to address the spread into the general population, the reaction by government to use the only tools it has to deal with the growing and spreading situation and a retaliatory nuclear strike by a small nation that ignites automated nuclear response by the larger nations. As players, we don't know and in all reality, it won't matter for us. What is our story is how the local population has dealt with the aftermath of whatever or whoever made bad choices for mankind and how we are finding enough supplies to get through the next bloodmoon. But, these are just my thoughts.

I really love how we already have lore, I just hope they continue on track so it makes sense once they release the story mode! Cause in my opinion this can be a really interesting story to continue. I'd also love if they made it so the bandits are working for The Duke just to add to what they have, since the note implies that the character owes him still it's understandable if they come to collect

I'm very curious about the story for this game and happy to see its finally coming out of early access.

That was fun. :) Made me wonder. I haven't looked into it, but have any modders tried to add the story of Navezgane/the Duke/Noah in, as an RPG mod for the game? I know there are overhaul mods that basically tell their own story, but any mods speculating where TFP are thinking of going with this? That'd be fun.

An interesting take. I didn't know about the Japanese company, because I haven't made it that far. I've been trying to figure out "How much time has passed since the outbreak, nuke & fall of civilization, based on evidence in the game?" The calendars are one clue as to when civilization collapsed. Then there's the various states of "decomposition" of the areas & specifically buildings. I'm guessing player is 5-10 years after the calendars? Thoughts on that? [Edited to correct spelling error]

What if, the virus, spread through poisoning, you find half eaten sham sandwiches every where. Higashi and the Duke were in on it together, they used their connections to contaminate a batch of Sham, and that's how the outbreak started. Corny I know but that's what I've always thought.

Extremely off topic but I *must* know... Why do people still pronounce it "NUKE-YOO-LUR" ? It's CLEARLY spelled Nuclear, and like... Anyone who took basic english class knows how to pronounce words based on the placement of letters. NU for 'NOO' The C makes the K sound in this case. And the L afterward DOES NOT imply the 'Yoo' sound, it's an L sound. Then Ear... well, like an ear on your head. Then you put it all together and say "NOO-K-LEE-UR" Sorry for being that guy, but... Damn it's just an irk of mine.
