Listening to creating an EOS life… podcast confirmed many of my intentions. Thank you. To specifically the question on how or having strategies to “Say No often,” provides challenges to those asking for help, assistance and answers can personally and professionally develop and train themselves to develop options and alternatives to solve problems for themselves, but also will challenge them to develop the skills to ask others to come up with options and alternatives to solve issues and overcoming obsticals themselves…. multiplying and building another critical management and leadership skill. Thoughts or feedback??

There's a fine line between protecting your time and enacting a "help first" mentality. It's important to teach your leaders to help often when they can, but not to create "learned helplessness" in their team members. Through roleplaying, you can help teach them it's okay to say, "no" but only when it's coupled with the guidance and support on how to discover the answer on your own. Hope this helps!

Cheryl, it's not about saying "no" to people who need help. Rather, it's training them to be good critical thinkers, decision makers, and problem solvers. A simple training method: When people come to you for help, require them to 1) State the problem in one paragraph or less 2) State three possible solutions 3) State the ONE solution they think is best and WHY. You may, or may not, agree with the one solution they pick, but it is important they take ownership for solving the problem. And, oftentimes, they will come up with a better solution than you might have. As they become more familiar with this model of critical thinking and decision making, they will become more confident and self-sufficient, able to solve more problems on their own. This is how you protect your time and avoid getting pulled into a million different directions.

Yelling out “who’s gonna fix this him or you” is not empowering your team, it just looked really bad and then to blame your OC’d was another Dick move- you just unnecessarily embarrassed your own people in public. That’s poor leadership and a massive ego. not OC’d. I stopped watching from that point on
