After deleting tiktok I find myself either on reddit or KZfaq, but I also find myself spending more time with my pets, doing chores, daydreaming about alternate realities. It’s a surreal thing that I sat down and drew without my phone in front of me, it didn’t last very long but it’s the first time I’ve drawn without some other distraction!! Tiktok is a curse.

Thanks for the video once more Cole. While I do like my video games and browsing art or whatever as a means to unwind after a productive day. I have noticed that if I consume too much of it (especially on my phone), I do feel not only distracted from completing certain tasks/projects… but also very numb and not feeling so well. So that’s why I think it’s important to keep a healthy balance between our time with the real world and one we (choose to) spend online. Also that’s very true with the fact that when it comes to advice (especially when it comes to self-help/improvement) that sometimes it’s not going to speak with everyone. Everyone is different and goes through life differently, each have some unique different ideas or experiences that some would seek help with. But no matter what kind of advice there is out there, the only way to figure out if it really works is to go and experiment or experience it. And if that doesn’t work, that’s okay it won’t be the end of the world. Also I found that the moment of silence was actually quite peaceful and relaxing. ☺️ Something to ease my mind a little bit you know?

This simple video alone pushed me just in the right direction, and it had nothing to do with things like working out, reading a book a day, or jazz like that; I've had to pay attention to my inner self and start asking myself questions that I've never asked myself before. This video taught me how to search for answers. I was secretly running from them because some dude on KZfaq may have the answer to your problem, but only you have the answer for yourself, and I thank you for helping me realize this.

This is something I’ve been putting into practice more often. Setting limited screen times. Downloading apps to force a pause before opening other apps. Giving yourself space to think and analyze your life is more important than ever. @EdgarDiazSpeaks

@thephoenix-bf5qd I think it applies to everyone.. As Cole said in the video, you should take everything with a grain of salt and find the parts of others’ wisdom that makes sense to YOUR life and YOUR unique situation. Even the best of ideas can’t be applied to every situation.

I love this and this reminds me of this psychologist who goes by HealthyGamerGG who talks about the slow elimination of the precious showerthoughts. He mentions how when all of our processing comes through media as we become desperate to fill all the silences, our brain literally stops being able to think for itself and instead filters everything through purely outside media perspectives. So there’s a crisis of people actually knowing and understanding themselves which creates cogs instead of leaders. I love how your content always encourages young men to live more intentionally and feel empowered again. Beautiful video!

I love the Mindfulness in the end of this video. It made me relax a bit more. Like my dad always told me "You don't seek the answer, you already know what to do". And yes i do know and have known the things you talked about for years but i am scared and want to run away from the quiet space. I tried mindfulness before and it helped a lot but that was 2 years ago and i do want the same feeling but i get stuck in the loop. I need to rest properly but i am scared/procrastinating...

Once upon a time I heard someone said:" Not even you know what is best for you and how would someone else." The problem with all those internet wtuff online that they do not tell people every life is unique every single one. And someone else story is not and can not be your story , you are main character in your plot. Most of the strugless you are going alone. Even if you have friends, internet, good parents when hard times come you will be alone in your mind 24/7. Once more trick is that life does not get easier and that is why most people with depression don't get or get back at depression after meditation etc. The truth is life does not get easier but yiu get stronger so the harder things seams easier by experience. The internet is full of good stuff and could and should help. But we need to be more focused, we are constantly watching something to be somewhere else even we can or can not admit it, it is true. We becaome most of unaware beings even thought we have mind bigger than animals. If you wanna change your life go within and change yourself. And in the end make action , things would not change if you don't make action. Cause you can not run from yourself.

It’s remarkable to witness Cole Hastings' evolution over the years. It wasn't until I heard his advice at 5:57 that I truly appreciated the level of self-improvement he's achieved, possibly offering some of the best guidance on the subject I’ve ever encountered. His authenticity is refreshing, a rarity that we seldom find in others. Thank you, Cole, for influencing our perspectives. Your approach reminds us that to think outside the box, we must first step outside of it. I hope you continue to embrace this philosophy for years to come.

Good insights here, many verbalized well that a lot of us already know. I’ve been dabbling with doing different types of fasts over the past couple years, and have recently had the inclination to make it a routine, and have a fast day about every other day. The idea would be to not consume any electronic media during that day. I am thinking of also having no food or drink (besides water) on those days. A good metaphor I came across in the audiobook “the light after death” was that electronic media (perhaps all media) is like dessert, very enjoyable and dopamine inducing, and unhealthy in great quantities. This leads me to believe that the more I can scale back my consumption of such material, the better. I appreciate the plug for the self mastery pursuers community and have just signed up. I look forward to seeing everyone there.

Best Self Improvement youtuber there is, high quality, great editing and a message everyone needs to hear now more than ever. To be this objective and critical is something many people online, especially self improvement 'guru's, lack. It's hard to stay optimistic with the information overload that is social media, and I'm glad I haven't been pulled into the doomscrolling addiction that many young people have. It's relieving to see someone is optimistic that there will be change and not another excuse to mask the problems Maybe showing these brainrotted people a video of someone hanging their tongue out and swiping on a phone/ other screen very fast will be helpful. Who knows

Self help from skills to depressions have the commonality of being stuck if used improperly. The self should discipline and apply what they're hearing than just feeling validated - only then you overcome depression and develop new skills. I’m towards the end of the video 15:56 this stare at the wall advice is Money I remember when I was 16 I for whatever reason zoned out and start thinking about my fucked up life and realized how beneficial this was made point that was to spend at least four hours alone thinking towards the end, I hopped back on my phone to take notes because writing on paper was so slow and I just started pouring all my thoughts out after I finally came back and looked at my messages. It was weird. It was like I just had a life-changing moment like as if I went to another universe whole time all I did was the same thing I would’ve done on my phone, basically stare at the wall This built confidence it allows you to trust yourself more you kind of escape these invisible forces that clog your mind It’s been four years since this moment and I still think about it

Honestly, this was the wake up call I needed. I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in an endless spiral for the longest time, and sometimes you just need a wake up call to put the phone down and start taking action again. Thanks for sharing Cole, great cinematography btw!! 🫶🏽

When i want to find an answer for myself, like, "what makes me feel this way?" I just want to check media, maybe they have some philosophies that makes sense, that can explain it for me

I know it sucks watching Reels and Tiktok, but on the other hand, it's my job. I make videos there, I share my thoughts, and what I experience outside is what forms my thoughts. What I read. It is not possible to think in one way. We are in a grey area. Yes, sad edits ruined my life, but they aestheticised the traumas I experienced in reality. At some point, it developed a form of defence against life.

hey if you do end up seeing this, or to whomever wants to answer, do you think dissociation and escapism are related to eachother in some level.

I actually really love the intro. The editing has really gone up good job bro. I also notice your voice has gotten more “storytelling” over the past 2 years. I miss the old, informal voice you had 2/3 years back, it felt like talking to “the boys”. The storytelling voice is good for story videos however! I mean just my personal feelings I still love your content btw.

Yeah, voice has a more “scripted” feel to it as I try to make it as charismatic as possible. Also hard for me to stop myself from having that voice when I have a script. Thinking of making a second channel where I just ramble unscripted about stuff

I moved overseas this past year and didn't have 5G on my phone for months. It was so peaceful and taught me to sit with myself comfortably. Now that I do have 5G, I have to try so hard not to fidget and doom scroll on it
