I do get the sense of knowing what the "old world" was like, i mean i was honestly always a nerdy kid and played a lot of games from a young age, but there was a barrier to that in that I had to use a PC or console which had some oversight from my parents. i think mobile devices are so dangerous because you always carry it with you

To add to this: stop constantly listening to or watching things „in the background“ while doing other tasks. It doesn’t matter if it’s podcasts, audiobooks, KZfaq, etc. You may feel like you‘re being „more productive“ or „multitasking“ but most of the time it is just noise that clouds your mind and numbs your thoughts. Embrace the silence. Edit: To clarify, I am not saying never, ever listen to things or that it is always bad to have something on in the background. I'm just suggesting to be more mindful of your consumption and to also allow for periods of silence from time to time during which you can experience your thoughts and emotions more clearly.

One thing that held me back was the fear of not understanding my friends' conversations, not having topics to talk about, not getting the latest jokes, and overall feeling out of touch. If you're going through the same thing, don't worry. As the days, weeks, and months go by without any social media, you realize how useless they are. There comes a point where, if you were tempted to download them again, create an account, and commit to using them, you simply have no interest. They bore you, just like the first time you ever tried them. Because that's what they are-boring. The idea that "oh, if I don't have social media, I'll be left out of everything that's happening" is a lie to keep you consuming. Trends and memes are so momentary that they don't even have an impact on real life. Unless you hang out with other people who are chronically online, who can't talk about anything other than the content they consume on the internet, quitting social media won't have any negative impact
@Peachgirl-cq8sg

This… I still use social media but I use them widely different than my friends. My friends use them and stay up to date with trends, our generation, the basic stuff you see on TikTok. And because I use them differently, example to stay up to date with my hobbies, I just don’t connect with what they talk about or find myself not interested. Even with my hobbies, I do want to eventually lessen my social media use as much so I can do more physical productivity with my hobbies and less being online indulging them.

I’ve been doing this ever since I quit my job 1.5 years ago. Spent the better part of a year in rainforests and climbing mountains, I’ve filled like 7 journals, started crocheting, my art game leveled up big time and I literally learned how to think. I realised I have so much more potential than I knew when I was working from sunrise to sunset and then revenge scrolling to feel some control over my time in the little portions of nighttime that I didn’t spend crying. I genuinely believe that meaning in life is found in movement, play and authentic connection with others. This is where you find love. Not just intimate love but the deep platonic kind philosophers talk about. It’s just a shame I’m autistic and extremely antisocial though , I actually use social media as a tool to stay connected with certain people on purpose now, and to share my art occasionally. I was bored Af for weeks.. after i relaized it actually was wasted my time from last many years.. and now after there is no loss in terms of career only loss was rid of unwanted peoples from my life... now I have a small circle fo friends whom I can spend time with.. by playing cricket or football... or going out for ride.. now I don't post pictures where I travel.. but love the feeling of living in that movement.. I don't have tension of who is liking my pics or commenting.. all is matter is the peace in my mind and clarity of thoughts ❤✨️

Knowing that tiktok has especially been designed to be addictive to the max by the very efficient use of algorithms (btw, the same is true for shein & temu), and seeing what kind of effect it has on my friends, made me decide to absolutely never have it myself. I was devastated when my friend suggested me a video on yt she found interesting and she apologized it's "a bit long" and I expected it to be something like 30-60min, but it was literally 1min 30sek, was the last warning sign I needed. I'm used to watch over hour long lectures on yt as my standard, for her anything longer than a minute is exhausting. And she's very addicted to tiktok.

I feel so silly admitting a small device had such an impact on me- but it left a cave in my heart I'm trying to mend right now. When I was younger, I felt inadequate and insecure about myself. I found solace in scrolling through social media, seeking validation and connection. However, looking back, I realize that this habit only fueled my insecurities and prevented me from truly improving. I used social media as a coping mechanism to fill a void and as a form of self-harm. This behavior became a long-standing habit, lasting for nine years, where I spent most of my time scrolling and playing games. Eventually, this led to a period of depression lasting eight months during my freshman year of high school when I realized I needed to start living my life. The impact of this habit on my mental health was significant. I'm a junior in high school. I'm struggling still. Whenever I put my phone down I feel overwhelmed by the amount of doors that open for me.

My headspace feels much more free to wander and imagine when its not packed with information about other people's lives. Social media can make you feel like you're being "let in" on the every day details of other people's lives, but often it is only a highlight reel that leads to jealousy and miscommunication. This is really true ! But I think we can eliminate something else of our lifes too: watching time too often. No, seriously. When I was a child, I didn't have this consciousness of time than now. At this age, I didn't have the need to know what time is it, I just didn't care. The more we grow, the more we have obligations and the more we watch what time is it, but I surprise me to do it the weekend or at moments where I have nothing urgent to do. Thinking constantly to time is stressful for me, and prevent me to be fully lost in the things I love to do. Because when I watch time, I think on what I have to do in few hours, or tomorrow. So I think that, when we don't really have urgent things to do, we can delete watches, clocks, in addition to screens.

So if I wanna feel like a kid again, I guess I’ll do that, run in when my Seiko goes off. 😁 (And my other chimers, it gets pretty chaotic on the hour. 😁) Little bit joking, but I can’t get rid of my clocks for that reason. 😁

I deleted TikTok a few days ago and man, when I tell you it changed me, it really did. In just three days I feel like a more productive and happier person. Instead of doomscrolling and watching all the horrible things happening in the world that you can’t change, you focus on your own world and you just need to get away from all that bad news. For example, I’m pro-Palestine and so many videos in my feed were about the bad things happening there, and it just came to a point that it was hurting me more than helping, as I couldn’t do anything to change the situation and it was just making me feel depressed. Deleting TikTok and twitter, you’re right it did make me feel like a kid again. I go outside more, I read more, I feel like I’m building an actual life for myself instead of watching other people live their lives and wishing that I was them. I went cold turkey and i have honestly never felt better, it might be the best thing that’s happened to me. If I hadn’t deleted it then who knows, right? It’s good that I’m breaking the habit early, as I’m fortunately still a teenager and have so much of my life left, so I’m lucky I haven’t wasted it yet.

As a teen, this was a really eye-opening observation so i just decided to do it. It's honestly so sad when i look around and i see people my age being addicted to their phones. I wish that someday people realize how much there is to life than some glowing screen. It doesn't matter if no one liked your story, or if no one texted you. Its life. Go do something that will actually benefit you and make your brains less overstimulated so you can actually focus on tasks you need to do. I would also like to add that ever since I deleted social media, ive started to get better results in school, appreciating more, connecting with nature, appreciating relationships with my friends, family, and ive even started working out! Please, people, there is more to life than your phones. Life is precious, appreciate it while you can or you'll regret later on.

Best thing I ever did was get rid of ALL social media and the smartphone back in 2016. Wasn't easy at first but now I do not miss it at all and I enjoy doing other things so much more like being outside when the weather is good and spending time with my dogs. I am also limiting myself to a maximum of 1 hour per day of internet use at my desktop..

I deleted my wp and insta about 2 days ago and I realized that I have a lot of free time and I could be productive in this free time and also I feel so relieved and peaceful. I do meditation very often and also I can't see the unrealistic social media standards anymore which I used to compare myself with others and now things just changed a lot and I'm happy now and carefree. Carefree of that no one will judge me and even I won't compare myself. It's a great step and the more you start avoiding your phone, the more productive and happy you'd be. ✨

Haven’t used for 3 years and it taught me one of the most precious lessons ever. I recently reopened my social media and I have developed complete self control over my consumption of social media - i mainly just use it on weekends. Heres what i learnt: first, you don’t miss out. By spending less time on shallow relationships, in return u realise u build much deeper relationships with a few close friends who maintain the relationships through intentional conversations. Second, you have clearer head and saved a lot of time that you can focus better on your goals and things that truly matter to you.

You would be amazed how much tasks, especially creative tasks, may be done without phone, computer or digital platforms at all. That's what I've been exploring and posting about lately, and there are certainly things to develop. Thanks for your video. Also, being alone with own thoughts is often sooo useful!

@@sivyh I feel like I have a pretty healthy balance, I didn’t start KZfaq til about middle school and I only used my iPod to make voice memos, play games and write little stories in notes. Even that got addicting I’ll admit. But as a kid I wasn’t allowed on the internet, and now I’m thankful for that because now I know how to manage my time on the platform more. (Better than most people I know, who feel like they can’t put it down for even a second. It’s sad.

I did this one year ago, i was in the last grade of highschool so the two months befor finals i gave my phone to my mom and told her to give it back when i finish finals, i spent the two months without phone studying 16hur a day so i was busy to do other things but..even my study was different without phone i be more focusing and understand things way faster, i had a great organizing for my time per day and i could finish many things in one day that i used to finish in a week with phone being near me, i became smarter and felt that one week is enough to learn a whole new different language! Yall im telling u that i almost became intelligent lol, i wanted to stay like this after taking my phone but couldn't tho, i took my phone after two months and became addicted again really quickly😕 but ik that i can live without it and it will be so cool to do it again but in the holiday so i can do more than study! ❣️Quick note since u read my journey i took my finals and graduated with 93% avg and now im a pharmacy student🫶🏻

This video resonated with me so much. I *always* tell people I want life to be like when we were younger, we would call each other to hangout, we wouldn’t get upset if someone didn’t talk to us, (ex.texting, people get so upset about being left on delivered but what if someone was just busy? Getting too attached too fast), there was never ill feelings if you disappeared and then reappear, it would just be like “oh hey! Long time no see what’ve you been up to? Where did you go??!” But now it’s all like “oh you ghosted us, you left us hanging etc” I loved your video so much because 1. You went straight to the point 2. You didn’t add anything extra like other KZfaqrs 3. Super short video and super informative in just 5 MINUTES?!? wow This was the push I needed, you’re so right about scrolling being a coping mechanism, I’ve deleted all social media but I still see myself trying to find any website or something to scroll on. I’ll try what you did and I’ll update my comment in maybe 6 months!!

I deleted twitter, tiktok and instagram because people are mean, toxic and I don't know if it's me but I feel forced to do things to be valid in social media, I only kept youtube to distract myself because I have anxiety and I feel so good, it's just like freedom, I don't know if i'm overreacting but I think social media is the reason why people feel so depressed nowadays😊

I recently turned 20 and while I still have a lot of adulthood left to experience, it already feels like so much has changed since I was a teenager. I don’t get joy out of being on my phone anymore, I miss having hobbies and feeling like I’m enjoying the present. Social media is just this toxic, energy draining presence in my life and videos like this are what keep me going with my goal to essentially quit my phone. Even when I don’t have energy for anything else but mindless scrolling, I’m trying to remind myself that the less I’m on it the closer I’ll get to that childlike wonder that I thought I lost

I deleted Instagram 2 years ago and I never went back. I've never been happier than I am right now in my life. All the time I was on social media, I felt depressed and miserable, trying to "prove" that I "had a life." I spent so much trying to look like I had a life that I didn't spend enough time actually living mine. Now I have a lot of friends irl and a couple of really good close friends. I jam with my fellow music majors, cram and study for my assignments, and go out and do stuff with friends. We just feel happier when we're hanging out even if we're just lying down and talking. It was so scary initially, but now I'm just like, "what the heck had me so attached to that dang app in the first place?" It was so incredibly hard to do. But remember, you're living your life for you. I wish yall good luck. Whether you delete social media or not, remember that you're living your life for yourself, and just being in the moment sometimes makes a big difference. I'm studying American Sign Language right now and it takes a lot of concentration/awareness!
